Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Still don't understand the hate towards Steam. Been using it since 2005 and have never had a single issue since. Possibly the only GOOD kind of "DRM" available.

CorranHorn: I´ve seen people asking to get GoG games to start using Steam, Steam has gone from a hated service to being the one most people prefers.

gscotti: I've had a (somewhat perfunctory) browse through the exchange/donation threads, and I saw that the great majority were people offering Steam games for GOG ones. Based on that, I'd say you're wrong, at least for this site.
Im glad im not the only one noticing. Bear one thing in mind though.... a LOT of those games those people are trying to trade came from cheap indie bundles....

Uzur9: When do they plan to give us System Shock 1 ?
Well, apparently this game is in some kind of legal mubo jumbo because of a weird rights split (one company got some rights, other got other rights, one of these got dissolved...). So either it will get sorted out if there's enough demand, or it won't and we'll have to wait 150 yars, or it won't but somebody will authorise a global fix to the legal mess. I have no idea which of these is most probable.

Maybe it will turn up after this sale. There is one wayt to find out and buy 80+ copies of RCR

nijuu: Steams forums are pretty dire compared to here...

Only one or two threads.

... I decided I should buy Retro City Rampage. Looks pretty cool, so I'm glad it took its time selling. :)
Christ...I got 7 hours in there...how is this still on the board...I thought I'd wake up to an ended deal.

Elinnea: This sale definitely has magical willpower-breaking powers. I'm actually considering buying RCR now... a few days ago I had no interest in playing this game.

Must stay strong! Must resist!
Stay strong!!

Elinnea: If you really want to know, the forum comments are time stamped, and we started talking about it as soon as it started selling. I'm just too lazy to go back through, I'm afraid. But the info is there.

I know I just got a solid six hours of sleep and I started after RCR came up. When I got up and looked at GOG I had to refresh, thinking it had gotten stuck. No, no, still going...

gscotti: I know that posts are timestamped, but like you, I am way too lazy to find the page where RCR is first mentioned. Let's be honest here: GOG forums make it excrutiatingly hard to jump to the page you want. It's impossible to use a geometric algorithm.

Anyway, I counted the number of sold games per minute, and it's almost exactly 1 game/min right now. So, unless there is a long tail at the end, I expect RCR promo to end in 1.5 hours or less. Plenty of time to grab something to eat.
Be sure to factor in the last hurrah rush when it goes down to about 20 copies - magically, the counter tends to go down faster, probably mercy-buying feels real and really kicks in.

Well, you could type the page number into the URL. That's how I jump around if I want to go by tens or twenties or know approximately what page I need.

There were many upon many complaining of bugs which to be fair understandable and many wanting a refund and then others just telling people not to buy it.

The game IS good, especially for the price it is going for. Though, I was lucky enough to get it free, I would have been happy enough paying for the current sale price. You'd appreciate it more if you grew up playing games from the 80s-early 90s as well as a lover of the cheesey 80s action flicks.
Btw: At this price point I'd buy RCR if I didn't own it already. I still have 35 games on my wish list but most of them apparently are not part of this sale. As a spectator I still think that this is a fun sale concept, though.

Stilton: If GOG link up with Steam I'll stop using GOG.
I don't see why that would happen... Most of the other services are just reselling steam keys. GoG has developed on it's own, with it's own system, and reputation for selling different kind of games. And they actually listen to their community...
The only thing GoG could do maybe is to create their own chat services for adding friends; launcher like Steam. But that's not really necessary because you have service xFire that has support for other games also.
