Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

SpiderFighter: I envy you. All my tapes are long gone. Brings a tear to my eye. I wish I would have stuck with programming. I switched over to TurboPASCAL to create door games for BBSs, but once the Internet came around in '95 I switched to html and Javascript, then kinda lost touch with the times. Now my creations are mostly UGC for other games.

wackyanne: You know, I didn't get too deep into programming, but I wish I'd kept up with it more. I did a heck of a lot of HTML and web stuff in the 90's, but gave up around the time web logs came around.
What I regret giving up in my life is the really geeky stuff. Which is why I've spent most of the last year getting back into tabletop games, esp. D&D. But my husband's loaded up Diablo onto my other Mac, and I picked up Duke Nukem 3D on day 1 of the sale, and will be snapping up Quest for Glory the next chance I get... so the old school computer gamer in me is travelling back in time too. Now I've just got to find a TI99 emulator, or risk my wrists on the real one ;)
The TI-99 was a lot of fun. But you can still play around with programming using modern languages like Corona or GameMaker. The former allows you to write for the tablets and phones, while the latter allows you to write for the PC, Mac, iOS, Android, etc. I tried them both, and they worked very well. There are so many options available today, you don't necessarily need to be a C++ wizard anymore to write professional looking games. :)
We should have around 2-3 hours free before RCR sold out.

wackyanne: My dad's kept every computer he's ever bought, and picked up a few here & there over the years. Yes, definite hoarding tendencies... I'd guess the machines all work, but those hundreds of floppies? I doubt there in much shape to play with anymore. Shame, though, because we had so many games, and lots of data too...
I wish I'd kept all my 3.5" floppies from my BBS days. There's shareware I'd love to have again. Plus all my old boxes and manuals. Eventually, I realized I had spent more money to store everything than what I would make if I ever sold them...so I gave away what I could and sent the rest to the dump.

Yeah, I know.
OOOhh Rampage ...

wackyanne: You might want to check out Aethercon, then ;) I should have been playing virtual Pathfinder Society instead of babysitting this sale, but then again, I've been having some laughs here...'

http://www.aethercon.com is a virtual convention running this weekend...
Seems like a nice idea. Too bad we leave in 90 minutes and we still have have to prepare. Might check it out tonight.

Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition
Two Worlds II: Epic Edition
Age of Wonder: Shadow Magic

Theme Hospital
That reminds me that I did gift Thief 3 to a friend who wanted it. I stupidly passed on the Thief games in the first round (and missed them completely in the second) because I didn't know if they'd all go on sale or not. I'm hoping to pick them up with NWN1 in this last round, but with my luck they'll come up while I'm asleep (thanks to DS and RCR) :(

Thanks, I'll check it out; the only virtual convention I've been to is Virtuacon from RPGGeek.com, that one was awesome.

Thanks, I think I'll look into one of those two... I found programming satisfied some OCD-tendecies, in a productive kind of way :) I don't know that I'll do more than look, but we'll see!
