Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

I fell asleep early yesterday. Woke up and saw I missed out on NWN2 (the last title I was hoping for).

My fiancée Meriande just woke up as well and told me to look in my inbox.

THANK YOU MERIANDE FOR NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2.

Now, if I could just pick up Theme Hospital for her, then we can go to the anime/manga/cosplay/etc convention in the best of moods. (We're leaving in an hour and a half or so).

Meriande: Wants:
Theme Hospital
If I get a free code for it, I'll give it to you.

Bonshea: Ahahaa! For a while I actually assumed Retro City Rampage was the spiritual successor to the amazing River City Ransom, till' I finally looked up on it.
avatar
Qwertyman: When I first saw people talking about this throwback game called Retro City Rampage, I thought the same thing lol. One can always dream...
Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun - Check that out if you don't know what it is already. Might be close to what you're looking for.

FrodoBaggins: Urgh, it's 6.20am here - I need to sleep.
Here's hoping I don't miss Cognition. Been waiting hours for that one. ( :
I am kicking myself for not grabbing that one the first time.

SpiderFighter: I envy you. All my tapes are long gone. Brings a tear to my eye. I wish I would have stuck with programming. I switched over to TurboPASCAL to create door games for BBSs, but once the Internet came around in '95 I switched to html and Javascript, then kinda lost touch with the times. Now my creations are mostly UGC for other games.

Deva: Things are moving so fast, especially these days, it's easy for anyone to lose touch with the times. I've been a bit of a hoarder when it comes to my computers though... the only one that I sold was an Apple IIe.... because I needed the money to buy an Amiga 1000. I pre-ordered one in 1985, and it's still working and is sitting on a desk just a couple computers away from me. Unfortunately though, the 40MB hard drive I bought for it died long ago... it's incredible how much a 40 MB hard drive cost in those days... $980! Now you can get a terabyte for under $100. :-/
My dad's kept every computer he's ever bought, and picked up a few here & there over the years. Yes, definite hoarding tendencies... I'd guess the machines all work, but those hundreds of floppies? I doubt there in much shape to play with anymore. Shame, though, because we had so many games, and lots of data too...

You guys I'm so jealous, I could definitely use a good geek convention right now.

I bought my Seagate 2T external at a Staples in Binghamton, NY 2 years ago for $170. Crazy to think that I was the shiznit when I had an XT with an internal 20 meg hard drive back in the day!
Shameless plug time! You can get a free copy of a fun old Sci-Fi Rogue-Like, "Jaunttrooper: Mission Thunderbolt" either by writing the author at megacorp@aol.com or sending me a PM here!

And vote it up on the wishlist: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/jaunttrooper_mission_thunderbolt

If you email the author, please encourage him to submit the game here, as it would make a great freebie and he doesn't seem interested in getting any money from it anymore.

Is it Nishicon? Anyway enjoy!
At this point I'm legitimately worried I'm gonna have to wait until Sunday to get some of the games I want.

HunterZ: GOG should reduce the price of the games if they stay up for too long. RCR is looking to be another Don't Starve.
avatar
zlep: Come off it - the prices are already super low. It's just that we're sitting here waiting for specific stuff, so we want everything to go through in 15 minutes or less.

GOG is trying to make money for itself and the developers/publishers here, not have an "everything must go" clearance sale at cost price. (I realise "cost price" makes little sense for digital goods, but you get my point.)
Actually many people mistakenly think "cost price" does not exist for digital goods, but cost price actually includes production, advertising, and server maintenance costs too, so it's actually a thing.
It's definitely lower than media, box cover, paper advertising, shipping and shelving costs foe stores, but it's a thing.

You might want to check out Aethercon, then ;) I should have been playing virtual Pathfinder Society instead of babysitting this sale, but then again, I've been having some laughs here...'

http://www.aethercon.com is a virtual convention running this weekend...
