Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

wackyanne: We had Munch-Man, so didn't have to program our own. My favourite, though, was Tombstone City, my sixth birthday present. There was always more games that I wanted than I could spend time programming tho'.

I should see if it's still in working order. My Dad still has it for sure, and my son might get a kick out of it...

SpiderFighter: You mean this? =D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSfOlusgR1s

This is such a blast. I remember Munch-Man and TC too. :)
OMG! That is so beautiful! That link actually made me tear up a little bit. Perhaps it's time to go to bed. Especially before I get mad at my parents for getting me a year-old game for my b-day :P

digiraver: omg the freebies are a joke... :(

Shendue: 2 whole days and i'm still not getting one.
They've usually disappeared before I could even click the Buy button.. blink and you miss 'em. But even when I was able to click on it, I got an error message saying the site was getting too much traffic, so I didn't get any freebies.

Oh well, I've gotten plenty of good freebies from GOG over the years (including Duke 3D and Torchlight), so I've got no place to complain.

cpucrust: Nearly 10% done on RCR. Faster than I thought. If I can wait JUST ONE MORE title...
I'm afraid it doesn't work like this. For each title, there are some people that genuinely wanted it and the sale is just a catalyst. Some of these people were watching over the frontpage, some called by others, but they were waiting for that title. These people strike first, and do it fast. In case of System Shock 2 or Neverwinter NIghts, their number got fairly close to number of copies or beyond it, so the game sold instantly.

I have no idea how many of RCR's early sales were "instant". The more, the longer sale will last.

undeadcow: It's confusing to see games like Don't Starve and Retro City Rampage just sit there... Retro City Rampage is a funny kinetic game full of personality that's fun to play and easily worth more than $3.74. It hardly seems like something that'd totally halt the momentum.
I think the problem is that these games are on other sites, while the truly retro stuff is pretty much limited to GOG...hence, it moves faster,
OH man, I know the perfect show to watch for promos like this... too bad I didn't think of it... 24!!

Deva: Did you get the Extended BASIC cartridge for it? Made it so much better. I still have my tapes and TI-99 in a box, and last I checked, the data was still good on them. :)

Of course, they could be dead by now. :(
avatar
SpiderFighter: I don't think we had the extended BASIC cartridge. That's amazing that you still have your old tapes! I wish I still had mine. I made a text adventure called "Death in Harding House" with original music...the screen would flash red if you died. Plus a few arcadey-type games.

You need to hook that puppy up and go for a spin!
If you still had it, you could put "Death in Harding House" here on GOG! ;)

The Extended BASIC cartridge gave you hardware sprites and lots of other goodies. I wrote a bunch of games as well, in between playing Parsec, the coolest game for the TI... Then I learned C in 1983, and started getting a bit more serious... :)

peanutsticks: Gonna try and sneak in a 2hr nap.

Don't you dare pull a fast one on me and take down Retro before all 600 copies are sold!
Same here.
Retro City is good, made by a guy I used to work with. Give it a shot, especially if you like video game humor :)

Please, don't mention System Shock 2. I was dying to get it, but alas, I missed it.

CarHaru: I just discovered Nightcore with while hopped up on redbull.....

Someone pray for me....
I just typed Nightcore into Youtube after reading this.

I..... don't know what to think.
518 copies left...

I might fear that this will be a slow seller.

Is it very difficult game? I read quite few reviews that said that it's pretty difficult.

Funny... it is always "one more" title....
The problem that I personally have with a game like Retro City Rampage is that, while I do enjoy some of the throwback type games that indie developers have been making, RCR is just too much of a throwback. If I want to play something that reminds me that much of the 80's, I'd literally rather just play emulated console games that I was fond of from my childhood. One of my favorites was actually another game with the same abbreviation - River City Ransom.

That's just my personal opinion. It might be a decent game but like I said, if I want to go that far back in graphics, then I'd rather just play some of my old favorites.
