Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

RandomJC: See, I was thinking a little of column A, a lot of column B, with a dash of column C. (You do not want to know what column C is.)

shadowknight2814: C is having a grim, grotesque smelly horror moaning at you and wrapping their arms around you while you scream in fear. Unfortunately, due to the zombies eating the police, it leaves you at the mercy of the standard panhandlers who still want a quarter from you. Still better than being eaten by a zombie. Actually, no.
If you're really immersed in a good game you might not notice, though.

stevenmsanders: Hoping for Jade Empire. Only saw it that one time though. Did I miss it running more than once?
avatar
Nesoo: Given that we're in the third round, you've missed it at least twice. There's a list a few pages back with what's been finished and what hasn't.
Found the list. Thanks. Hopefully I won't fall asleep again and miss it.
avatar
Chaser98: I almost forgot to ask, were/are the Gothic games part of this sale? One of the first games I bought here was Gothic 3, which is the first, and so far only, Gothic game I've played (unless Risen counts) and I'm wanting to go ahead and try the first two Gothics.
avatar
Shendue: Nope. I wouldn't mind Gothic 2.
Ah well. Yeah out of the Gothic universe it's Gothic 2 I want to play next, but the entire Gothic series seems to go on sale fairly regularly on here and on Steam, so I can't really complain.
avatar
jpwiseguy: I can't help noticing that Shadow Man is starting to become somewhat Keanelike in it's behavior.
avatar
stan423321: Oh come on. It has already sold more copies. And if you stop at the counter and wait for a moment, it moves after umphteen seconds, sometimes by few units. Even Don't Starve was at moments more keaning.
I think if we keep at it, we might be able to get "keaning" added to the oxford dictionary by next year.
avatar
Devoidless: Shellfish? Hardly, I thought it was rather kingly of me to spare you from the cagey episode.
avatar
SpiderFighter: The crazy thing is that you knew which episode I was on.

;)
Well, I have a limited psychic-powers claws. It allows me to see a very specific object every season.
avatar
stevieknix: I was there too, but by 'there' I mean 'asleep beside my computer'.
avatar
wackyanne: Ah, I fell asleep last night, with the Witcher 2 in my cart. I would still have been fine, if my computer hadn't run out of memory. I've got to stop having only a gig free on my laptop...

But for the Keaning, I was mostly awake, wondering why the hell I was...
I was afraid to go to sleep, thinking there would come some point where it got yanked for being too slow. So I stayed. God help me, I stayed.

O.o you have seen into my dreams, and walked into my nightmares!!!

Granted, it has not gone "Full on Keane", but it was starting to display some fairly Keanish properties for a time. However I don't believe it's anything to be too concerned with at this point. Will continue to monitor closely.
avatar
Dreadjaws: LOL. Is "Keaning" a word now? I can see myself using it a lot.

"Drat, my work is keaning until the darn printer is fixed"
"My relationship with Sophia? It's keaning because she claims I spend too much time in internet forums and too little with her"
"Arkham Origins is keaning on my PS3 until they release a freaking patch"
avatar
gscotti: I just submitted "keaning" to the Urban Dictionary. It's under review now - fingers crossed XD
It's a new measure unit, "the Keane", which express the amount of time you spend doing something boring.
A whole day of study at school is gonna be 5 Keanes. A full work day at your workplace is 10 Keanes. Blocked in traffic is 2 Keanes.

stevenmsanders: Hoping for Jade Empire. Only saw it that one time though. Did I miss it running more than once?
Twice, I do believe; and once free, I think. I tried getting it both times, and each time I got an error and lucked out due my internet.

Velkyn: So, is it just me, or is this sale infinitely more exciting than anything the Steam sale has pulled out in the last little while?
It seems that GOG may have outdone themselves again.
avatar
RandomJC: So you aren't the Shadow Man? I was going to ask for your autograph!
avatar
Khaleesia87: Nope. But I am Jack Keane's grand granddaughter-in-law. Within this promo he got enough time to have kids, see his kids growing, get a grandchild, see his grandchild growing and having a child who grow up and got married to me.
So...can you get me his Autograph, or is he dead? Cause if he's dead, I'll just take a broken off limb, or a finger or something. Whatever will break off easiest.
avatar
shadowknight2814:
Thanks holmes! This LoL goodness has been rocking my socks.
avatar
wackyanne: You, sir, clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Overall, Don't Starve sold almost 30 times faster than Jack Keane - and that is averaged over the _WHOLE_ round. And Don't Starve's first 400-500 copies actually sold at a really good clip. Then the market was fairly saturated, hence another two and a half hours for the rest...

Jack Keane's First round was for 100 copies (not 1200) and lasted FIVE HOURS!!! not merely 3 and a bit...
avatar
Selinea: Actually, Keane's first round was for 50, and that was somewhat slow, but they didn't really adjust numbers in the second round and just flat out doubled all the titles that had low numbers, and that second round of 100 was what led to the five hour debacle.

GoG should still learn from Don't Starve though, in that classics don't suffer from market saturation (NWN2 still went super fast), but modern games will.
I'm wrong about the round? But it was the first night... Wednesday night. Right? Or am I really that sleep deprived??? I missed at least the last round.
