Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

So, is it just me, or is this sale infinitely more exciting than anything the Steam sale has pulled out in the last little while?

wackyanne: Jack Keane's First round was for 100 copies (not 1200) and lasted FIVE HOURS!!! not merely 3 and a bit...

Frostyfirefly: I was there, it was horrible!!

McDon: I'm surprised Retro City Rampage is a slow burner...
avatar
Kaitu: Is it any good?
It is. It's just a slow burner because everyone own it already. Hotline Miami has the same problem.
avatar
WillOfD: I think Don't Starve just defeated Keane's record. :(
avatar
wackyanne: You, sir, clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Overall, Don't Starve sold almost 30 times faster than Jack Keane - and that is averaged over the _WHOLE_ round. And Don't Starve's first 400-500 copies actually sold at a really good clip. Then the market was fairly saturated, hence another two and a half hours for the rest...

Jack Keane's First round was for 100 copies (not 1200) and lasted FIVE HOURS!!! not merely 3 and a bit...
Actually, Keane's first round was for 50, and that was somewhat slow, but they didn't really adjust numbers in the second round and just flat out doubled all the titles that had low numbers, and that second round of 100 was what led to the five hour debacle.

GoG should still learn from Don't Starve though, in that classics don't suffer from market saturation (NWN2 still went super fast), but modern games will.

If by exciting you mean addictive, then...maybe.
I´m sure JK2 would be a game many would like to buy without DRM, Jedi Knight 2 that is=).
avatar
legitster: So distraught o'er the frozen sales of JK2, I took to watching Insidious.........INSIDIOUS I SAY!!!!
Frakking Darth Maul and bad acting, not to mention a turd of a story, but C'MON!! DARTH MAUL!!! *rips hair out* *cries remembering the pain*........ T_T

CorranHorn: Star Wars for me will always be the first three movies and it that order, the new ones just felt out of place. I do like the books, The X-Wing series by Stackpole and Allston are great but few can compete with the man who started it all, Timothy Zahn. Would have loved to see movies based on his first trilogy=).
As for me, I wish they'd made more movies out of the original novels... Like Splinter of the Mind's Eye (another kiss between Luke and Leia! before even good ole' George knew they were siblings), but more importantly, the AWESOME Han Solo and Lando Calrissian trilogies. I stupidly lent out my copies to a friend/coworker, and never got them back.

I'm not sure anyone should be allowed to revisit a story twenty years later. I've yet to see an instance where it came out better.

patrickjarvi: Seeing other games at 80% off it's hard to pull the trigger on Don't Starve when it's only 66% off. Makes me want to wait until it shows up in a Humble Bundle or have a better discount.
avatar
Deva: That is part of the problem for some, I think... the bundles really spoil people. The current Humble Bundle gives you a lot of top games for less than $5. (If you only pay the minimum....) Although they're only for Steam.... but still.
So if you pay the $4.73 (as it says on the site), you actually get those 4 games? (LOTR War in the North, Batman Arkham Asylum, F3ar and Fear 2) I can see why people get spoiled!

Velkyn: So, is it just me, or is this sale infinitely more exciting than anything the Steam sale has pulled out in the last little while?
No Idea. I've only dipped my toe in Steam, mostly because I like the DRM Free stuff that means I can play games while trapped in a bus station.

Im not sure if "exciting" is the word, maybe "unhealthily addictive"?

stg83: Not only steam keys, they have drm free for some games as well. Got Psychonauts and Brutal Legend from Humble store today drm free including steam keys.
Yes, they do have DRM free options for many of their bundles... mostly the Indie bundles... but some with more AAA games, like the current "WB" one that I was referring to, are usually Steam only.
Seems Shadowman is a game you buy if you played it before for nostalgic reasons.

Making Keane jokes, and hoping for Jade Empire, are the only two things that have held me together since that terrible event.
avatar
Chaser98: Shadow Man is moving at a much brisker pace than yesterday, excellent. I almost bought it yesterday. The game itself seems pretty average from the trailers I saw, but the soundtrack seems almost interesting.
avatar
SpiderFighter: Nope. The graphics haven't aged well, but SM is a 5-star game all the way. Owned it on PSX, then bought it again for N64 and now PC.
The trailers I saw of Shadow Man reminded me of Constantine (the game based on the movie starring Keanu Reeves, based on a comic book). I actually enjoyed that game (surprisingly), if you're familiar with Constantine the game, can you comment on their similarities?
