Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea

On the other hand, the fact GOG has "problems" with selling 100 copies of anything reminds me how small its userbase actually is. I wonder if the classic game repolishing is even worth it at this point. And this makes me sad.

Selinea: First, Jack Keane isn't a classic game. It's modern indie title. The fact that 2100 copies of NWN2 could sell out in under ten minutes suggests that either a. rabid fans are buying a huge amount of duplicate copies, or b. that the people here ARE more into classics, selling them indie titles is what's NOT working, and also the fact of whether they'd be willing to shell out $12 for a mediocre game when better games are going around at $2-$5 (most people would answer no). I'm sure it's a combination of both, but I'm leaning towards b. :)
Well, considering the only two games I am getting from this sale is Neverwinter Nights 2 (got it) and The Witcher 2 (waiting for it) I would say you are probably right.

Fffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu---

The one I wanted. Thanks a lot, Thunderkeane.

Edit: And going through the rest... all the other games on my "I'm vaguely interested" list are still available. Just not the one that I wanted the most :-(

So distraught o'er the frozen sales of JK2, I took to watching Insidious.........INSIDIOUS I SAY!!!!
Frakking Darth Maul and bad acting, not to mention a turd of a story, but C'MON!! DARTH MAUL!!! *rips hair out* *cries remembering the pain*........ T_T

Another angle to this is that most "deal forums" and "game deal forums" like reddit, redflagdeals don't allow posting of links to sites that have limited deals/limited quantities. This was on reddit game deals which is where I came from but it got removed from the main subreddit for violating the rules from what I can see.

stg83: Actually I hardly suffered during the Keane period of the sale, I joined in the 3rd round and just jumped the Keane bashing bandwagon on the forum.

I am suffering now albeit not as much , Don't Starve was supposed to be the game everyone was waiting for so 2100 copies were put out for sale to meet the demand and after the first 6 of 700 you could hear the crickets chirping.
I've been sleeping in the last 7 hours.
Was King’s Bounty Crossworlds put on sale during this time?

This.... this is the magnitude of Suffering that the Keaning brought about.

CarrionCrow: I imagine there'll be quite a bit of repeating that this is a first-time experimental exercise and that they couldn't anticipate such dramatic lulls in product flow.
avatar
gscotti: And that's actually true, too - but GOG should have been nimble enough to jump in and do some corrective action when things hit a snag (Keaning) - or, you know, just be smart and anticipate this sort of thing could happen. Just throwing your arms up is really not OK.
Well, all the Keane copies sold, didn't they? So success on GOG's side, I would say.
FUUUUCK to many to go!
Where is planescape torment and NWN diamond?

As someone else said, they get the same amount of money either way, since they sell the same number of copies either way. Just a matter of whether they get it in two days or three.

Sure, but still if this would happen on, say, Steam, there would be thousands of people buying anything for lulz. And not because Steam users are more into this than GOG users, only because there's so many of them.

We're getting really close to eating out Don't Starve, though. 20 licenses left.
