Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

johnnygoging: Dragon Commander is a new game and probably worth the $20 at this point.
Indeed, it's a new game, but hardly a stellar or even great one. Add to that the fact that most GOGers that love the Divinity series are cRPG fans and can't help but feel "betrayed" by Lariat for taking the series in a somewhat different direction.

You're absolutely right in what you said, but you should also take into consideration the specific target audience, in this case, the GOG customer. To those, quite understandably, $20/€15-ish is definitely a way too steep a price to pay for the game.

stan423321: Commander Keen 6: Keane Must Die

On the other hand, the fact GOG has "problems" with selling 100 copies of anything reminds me how small its userbase actually is. I wonder if the classic game repolishing is even worth it at this point. And this makes me sad.

ALH: Must keep in mind that Keane was Round 1 and the second most expensive game of the sale.At that point i figure people were still holding on to their cash especially because they didn't know what was still in store.
Actually I hardly suffered during the Keane period of the sale, I joined in the 3rd round and just jumped the Keane bashing bandwagon on the forum.
Are you listening to anything GOG?
I got my Awesomenauts OST and Mighty Switch Force OST playing.

Pshaw. A poser.

Some of us were there. Some of us truly suffered.

(Though we did have a lot of fun with it despite the frustration.)

We who were the few brave souls will never forget that day.

I got my Awesomenauts OST and Mighty Switch Force OST playing.
Demons & Wizards: Touched by the Crimson King. Cause I'm feeling super nerdy.
I can't believe Don't Starve is selling so slowly!

gscotti: The pricing is, I guess, what the publisher wanted, but the way the promo was formatted was GOG's.
You are right, there was no bashing of the game, as far as I could also see, but there was/is an implied sense of crappiness.
avatar
Chevette: It had not so glowing reviews (until people started posting hilarious ones to try to up the rating so it would sell) but overall I think it was the price that put people off buying it.
Oh, I agree 100% that it was the exaggerated pricepoint that sank it!

I think most people don't realize the enormous value of brand - well, that's why brands work (because people are unaware of their effect).
Might & Magic 6-pack already gone? Aww, man. Throwing in the towel. This is just too hard.

First, Jack Keane isn't a classic game. It's modern indie title. The fact that 2100 copies of NWN2 could sell out in under ten minutes suggests that either a. rabid fans are buying a huge amount of duplicate copies, or b. that the people here ARE more into classics, selling them indie titles is what's NOT working, and also the fact of whether they'd be willing to shell out $12 for a mediocre game when better games are going around at $2-$5 (most people would answer no). I'm sure it's a combination of both, but I'm leaning towards b. :)
World wide theres not 30 people who want to buy this game
avatar
mkell_226: Oh man, I'd hate to be involved in that conversation! They really ought to have built in some safeties, like kicking to the next game if it bogged down too badly.
avatar
CarrionCrow: I imagine there'll be quite a bit of repeating that this is a first-time experimental exercise and that they couldn't anticipate such dramatic lulls in product flow.
And that's actually true, too - but GOG should have been nimble enough to jump in and do some corrective action when things hit a snag (Keaning) - or, you know, just be smart and anticipate this sort of thing could happen. Just throwing your arms up is really not OK.
well the good thing is that those who do buy this game who didn't want it first are actually getting a good game.
