Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

CorranHorn: I´m having a hard time remembering thing myself, Insomnia is a very good name for this sale and I think of Megadeths song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R55Qxwwr9pw, that is how I feel now=).
It's only 9pm here, so not bad for me. Planning to head to bed around 1, hopefully ill see at least another couple of deals...

amarokster: I can't imagine the folks behind the Jack Keane game will be too upset. I'm pretty sure the # of their games sold in these past few days far outweighs the # they won't be selling due to the bad press. I haven't played the game myself, so I can't say about this, but if it was a mediocre game to begin with, then this sale really only helped them because it forced people into buying it when they wouldn't have otherwise!
They actually posted in this thread the day after the Keaning, and joked that they just wanted to be sure we all got at least 4 hours of sleep. They were actually really awesome about it.
100 left! Almost gone...

Don't Keane is taking a bit of time. Compared to the seconds System Shock 2 was up for, it really is interesting.

gscotti: The pricing is, I guess, what the publisher wanted, but the way the promo was formatted was GOG's.
You are right, there was no bashing of the game, as far as I could also see, but there was/is an implied sense of crappiness.

Chevette: It had not so glowing reviews (until people started posting hilarious ones to try to up the rating so it would sell) but overall I think it was the price that put people off buying it.
Yeah also think the pricing of Keane is the problem.May be on ok game but compared to everything else in the sale it does seem overpriced in general and even under sale discount.
Last 100! We'll make it ;)

BTW - 100 copies of Jack Keane 2 took 5 hours... so don't you be calling this anything like Jack Keane... It was _only_ 100 copies. While 1100 copies of Don't Starve have only taken a couple of hours...

Fictionvision: We are close to the 3h 30min mark.
Could it become the longest promo yet?

I think Jack Keane 2, round 2, was something like 4.5 hours.

Not sure how long Divinity: Dragon Commander or Thunderscape were in round 3.
Well, we didn't get Jack'd for 5 hours, but we were starved of GOG deals.

I saw a snippet of that response. Good enough that when I have the cash, I'll actually purchase the items when I probably wouldn't have before. Too many assholes in the world to not support the ones who at least seem cool.

You lucky bastard=), it´s 5.12 AM here.

mkell_226: Oh man, I'd hate to be involved in that conversation! They really ought to have built in some safeties, like kicking to the next game if it bogged down too badly.
avatar
gscotti: Yeah, totally crazy that they didn't think of this? WTF?!
Hell, I said that a few pages back and people told me I was crazy for it. I guess you people that argued against it are enjoying yourselves waiting 5 or 6 fucking hours for a game that hardly anyone on Earth wants to sell out? What's your idea for making this event run more smoothly? I'd love to hear some of your suggestions.

I think Thunderscape was like....... 3 hours or so but dammit..... it was so brutal.

When Divinity came up and I saw the price for it..... I was like, forget it... I'm going to bed now.

This is pretty epic promo, that's for sure.
