Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Meh, screw it, I'm off to bed. Didn't get any freebies today, but I guess it was still kinda fun. I'll see you guys tomorrow, maybe I'll catch some cool leftovers. May Jack Keane smile upon you.

xenxander: That was 600 purchases ago.

They over-estimated the number needed. I was hoping they only would put up 450
avatar
nijuu: they over estimate the number on indie games & obscure older games like Shadowman
I figure GOG sat down and did their math and ended up with x amount of games they want to sell in order to make x amount of profit. The benefit for GOG is that from the outset they know exactly how much money they are going to make from this promo.
The trade-off being that they give some amazing deals on various classics and throw in free games as well while also moving some of their lesser selling games. The downtime on the slow sales can be most keanish but it is give and take and in the end win/win.Best promo so far imo.I'd love to see them do it again sometime. The Keane Incident alone was as amusing as irritating.

dedoporno: I'm pretty much hoping for a freebie Omerta next (but only if it's a freebie!). It'll go out in a flash and will leave us with one snail less
avatar
Soccorro: Otherwise you can count me dead.
If it comes along before BG1 I'm calling it a night and go to bed. It'll still be here when I wake up :)
I only need BG1 now. If PS:T comes before it I'll get some copies just to pass around to return the favor of some kind guys who gifted me games I missed (I already got it on one of the previous rounds).

Well, I bought the two games I wanted (and could afford):

Don't Starve
Aquanox 2

(the latter isn't bad for the price. DS is awesome for netbook-owning Roguelike fans like me)

Had hoped to win Wing Commander 4 in the freebies but alas all the giveaways eluded me and I must sleep. Thanks to everyone that helped me through the sleepless nights with the witty banter here :)

Chandoraa: What the...?! Didn't you guys all say you were raving about getting this one? Or were you just trolling? -_-'
avatar
Chocobostew: I was waiting for this game hours ago. Then they threw it up as a freebie (Of course I wasn't fast enough). And by being thrown up as a freebie, I then had to wait for the title to cycle around again for the actual sale price.

I hope this game takes forever to sell. Feel my pain. No sympathy from me.
Not sure if you were 'lightheartedly' approaching the subject, but I find your comment a bit uncalled for... Chandoraa plainly stated the obvious: a whole lot of people keep whining and raging about not getting Don't Starve, so then it comes up and they don't buy it?!

You didn't see me complain when I had to go to work and missed some cool games, they're just that -- games. And it's not as if the games most people want are that expensive here on GOG even without this sale discount...

What you said came off as plain egotistical and rude.

archisbhatt: I feel like a chump now, caught 2 hours of sleep and lost Neverwinter Nights 2. Is there anyone who has an extra copy here who might want to trade for something of equal value?
avatar
foxworks: I have an extra, PM me
Just did! Thank you so much if this happens.
avatar
cj13810: does anyone want my copy of "thief 2" yes it is on gog
avatar
Palidor12: Ooh, I would! Why are you giving it away?
I have over 50 games in my gog lybrary and 50 in my steam lyberary and 10 on my ps3 and 35 for ps2. I am affraid that I will not be able to play most of the games that I own.

Also your PM messegeing is not open so you are going to need to turn it on in order for me to send it to you
Look like Don't Starve is actually Starving us of the next deal.
Again - where's the Gong from The Gong Show when you need it? :P
avatar
Chandoraa: This calls for some positive reviews to help people make up their minds.
Well peeps can watch some of my "let's play don't starve" episodes on Youtube ,if they want?
avatar
caledhel: I don't know why I'm still here. =/ I got everything I wanted yesterday. I even bought stuff I had no intention of getting before this sale.
avatar
Craig234: Do you have extra copies? Most of what I got are extras.
No I didn't get extra copies. I got a freebie Total Annihilation (which I already had) but I gave it away.
avatar
Palidor12: Ooh, I would! Why are you giving it away?

Yes, I just changed that setting. You're awesome, thanks!
Don't Starve. Go eat something. Use the bathroom. Take a short (or long nap). We'll still be here when you get back. This has been a GOG PSA.

In about a hour is when the people in blue stop by and tell us "Go to sleep for a while."
avatar
dedoporno: I'm pretty much hoping for a freebie Omerta next (but only if it's a freebie!). It'll go out in a flash and will leave us with one snail less

Alien8n: Even if they do a freebie the sale one would still come up and allow everyone some sleep...
Shit! You have a point there, I totally forgot freebies don't remove the game if it hasn't had its paid last chance. Omerta should be last then!
I expected Don't Starve would have been a much more popular title; I jumped on it earlier.
