Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

dedoporno: 25,000 out of ~17,000 posts are lame JK jokes? Damn! It appears they are so lame that its time & space warping :)
avatar
npalsensei: Lame and Jack Keanes don't fit in the same sentence. Jack Keanes is epic. He managed what no one else has managed before, to stall the 2nd round of sales to the point of despair.
LOL, shows I shouldn't type while distracted, totally multiplied by 10x by accident. I just wish I'd slept more during Keanegate, as I've two kids (3 and 7) who sure as hell don't let me sleep any other time ;)

But really, the Jack Keane mashups do get a little tiresome. There are hundreds if not thousands of them... and many by the same people, IIRC.
avatar
dedoporno: Well, it did sell hundreds of copies. Too bad there wasn't thousands of people wanting it ;)
avatar
Soccorro: tried sleeping and it didnt work. So is it possible to skip dont starve if noone buys it anymore?
nope, GOG said they must be sold, so best to feed yourself and not starve while you wait, you Kean't do much about it.
Appears people are not so Keane on Don't Starve.

Time for me to hit the road Jack, have fun watching those counters.
Good f'cking Lord, please make Ultima VII come up during the next hour or so, elsewise I'll most likely die of sleep deprivation.
avatar
Palidor12: That's very true. But I actually hope they won't attempt to run this type of promotion again! Not in this format anyway.
avatar
nijuu: Why not?
Mostly I don't enjoy the waiting part... waiting for the game you want to show up, waiting for the slow moving titles to FINALLY go away. Ugh, like right now!

True, I don't HAVE to participate in the promo, but it is hard to pass up buying the games you want at a 75 or 80% discount...
avatar
wackyanne: I suppose that it's too much to ask for the lame Jack Keane mashups to stop?
I was there, it was painful. Didn't want to buy it, didn't want to sleep, didn't want to miss something I wanted, and we didn't know then that there'd be three chances for each game....

Seriously, though, out of nearly 200,000 posts, I think Jack Keane jokes account for at least 25K :/
I dunno - for as often as I have seen them since that round, I think the number is much higher. I remember the forum page number was very low...
avatar
Xabyer_B: No, only Windows and Max unfortunately. If you play in Linux, buy at humble bundle.
avatar
Navarreitor: Steam supports Linux too i think.
Well since the steam OS will be linux based they better support it :P
when did the sale start? its my birthday tomorrow. This is the perfect gift!

Already bought Dont starve and the witcher

So a time limited like many have suggested would fix that? :P

17th of november?
avatar
Johnmourby: Well I've been following this sale since the start, only really breaking for eating and sleeping (I have no life, sob) More for the fun of it than to buy games.
And Keane in round 1 didn't seem much longer than Don't Starve (Like I said, I was able to tidy my room), just more painful because it was such a small number of copies.
I dunno, maybe those 5 hour just flew for me.
avatar
caledhel: Jack Keane 2 in round 2 is the one everybody is talking about. That took 4 and a half hours.
Ah round 2. I wasn't to surprised for that as took so long in round one and all the people who wanted it would have had lots of time to get it in round one. I'm pretty sure the Keane jokes predated round 2.
avatar
nijuu: So what do you reckon were the top 10 slowest movers?
This is not based on overall performance, but rather on stalling almost to a halt on specific rounds:

10. Strike Suit Zero (had a rough round 2)
9. Chaos Engine (pretty rough 'Last Chance')
8. Don't Starve (this 'Last Chance' could place it high above on the list, but it already had slow sales once before)
7. Nexus (had a pretty rough round 2)
6. Divinity: Dragon Commander
5. Book of Unwritten Tales (kinda stalled in its 'Last Chance')
4. Eador (see BOUT)
3. Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded (OH MY GOD!)
2. Omerta: City of Gangsters (only The Keanegate beats the endurance of the Omerta Trial)
1. Jack Keane 2 (undoubtedly!)
All this talk of timers makes no sense. GOG.com want to sell those copies. It's money for them - skipping copies that eventually get sold is just silly. Quit whinin' and go read a book or something.
