Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Johnmourby: Keane didn't last that long. It's more that it was embarrassing for fifty copies of a game to sell so slow,
avatar
groze: You're definitely not talking about the same Jack Keane 2 sale. Jack Keane 2 took 5 hours to sell, I shit you not. It stalled at 83 for at least 45 minutes.

You're probably talking about another round.
Well I've been following this sale since the start, only really breaking for eating and sleeping (I have no life, sob) More for the fun of it than to buy games.
And Keane in round 1 didn't seem much longer than Don't Starve (Like I said, I was able to tidy my room), just more painful because it was such a small number of copies.
I dunno, maybe those 5 hour just flew for me.

Revenile: I had just asked if anyone could keep an eye out for ultima 7, privateer or thief gold and possibly get it for me since I have to go away for about 2-ish hours, just in case one of them pops up before I can get back.
avatar
foxworks: I can do that. Looking for two of those myself. PM later when you get back.
awesome, thanks a lot, I need to head out now anyway so perfect timing,
avatar
Cruin: i know that feeling, I decided to play Planescape Torment. What did you pick?
avatar
Elinnea: I kind of want to try Geneforge, but it might be better to wait for a bigger chunk of time on that one. My complete impulse buy was Book of Unwritten Tales, maybe I should try it out and see if I feel buyer's remorse or not. :P
From what I've heard Unwritten Tales is alright, but not spectacular.

Apparently the second one is supposed to be the best.
avatar
wackyanne: I suppose that it's too much to ask for the lame Jack Keane mashups to stop?
I was there, it was painful. Didn't want to buy it, didn't want to sleep, didn't want to miss something I wanted, and we didn't know then that there'd be three chances for each game....

Seriously, though, out of nearly 200,000 posts, I think Jack Keane jokes account for at least 25K :/
25,000 out of ~17,000 posts are lame JK jokes? Damn! It appears they are so lame that it's time & space warping :)

Hahaha, you know what I almost picked Geneforge to play as well but then came to the same conclusion.
Just bought it... again! So do you know what's left then?
I'm STARVING for a new sale

moltobene: I had classes, did I miss Nexus: The Jupiter Incident or Alpha Centauri?
Neither
I love a good promo as much as anyone, but this one seems to be DRAGGING on forever. While I've definitely taken advantage of it (bought 10 games and managed to snag 2 freebies), I think the execution could have been much, much better.

Instead of selling each game in installments and waiting until a particular game has sold out before listing the next one (as we've all seen what an unpopular game can do to the pace of the sale), why not have listed all 101 games with the total number of copies available? That way people could buy all the games they want at once (provided it was still in stock), and we wouldn't have had to suffer numerous rounds of Jack Keane, Eador, etc. or sleep deprivation because you have no idea what title is coming up after the current one is sold.

I don't even care about the free games. While they are nice, I'd much rather have been able to purchase the games I want at the beginning of the promo, instead of having to sit at my computer all the time, waiting for the title I want to appear.

And as I write this, the sale has yet again been brought to a near screeching halt by 1200 copies of Don't Starve...

nijuu: So what do you reckon were the top 10 slowest movers?
avatar
darkmoment: Jack Keane 2
Eador
Jack Keane is way out in front as far as time per copy goes.
avatar
mondo84: Total raised when Don't Starve is done will be $256,695.35.
Wow.Thanks for that :)

I can't remember, 90% of my neurons are sleeping.

Xabyer_B: Take it easy, just choose one and play to the end. One by One.
I wouldn´t recommend Planescape Torment, that one requires a lot of reading and should not be played if you are tired, like I am=). I do agree to just playing one at a time even though I far to often play many games at the same time.

Lame and Jack Keanes don't fit in the same sentence. Jack Keanes is epic. He managed what no one else has managed before, to stall the 2nd round of sales to the point of despair.
Geneforge 5 is great so far, didn't try the others. It really manages to invest you in discovering the plot and the world is remarkably in-depth and told through GOOD narrative rather than infodumping.
