Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Whoa... that's a lot of whining already.

The question is... why so serious? Can't you just see this promo as a funny event? If you happen to grab some games with a high discount - good for you. And if you don't - good for you too, you won't lose anything, will you? Christmas promo is coming and some discounts are as big as those which are offered here so honestly I don't see a single problem. It's just a funny bonus...
Great idea for a promo, this will be fun. I appreciate the fact that GOG.com is willing to always try new things and create innovative ways of getting product out. Good stuff.
I can't exactly say that I like this promo, but I do appreciate Gog's willingness to experiment with interesting ideas.

jazmyselfandi: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!! I really hope you guys do know and see there are a lot of people who aren't bitching but love this sale :3

TurnipSlayerr: Always nice to hear! Enjoy! :)
But I can see a lot of hairs teared from the heads of "late" cheapskates and children crying around the bedtime :D

This person speaks truth :)
Oh no, not a good day for my internet to be going up and down Already missed the SS2 sale. *crosses fingers to not miss something high on the wishlist*
Interesting promo, I really like the idea.

Picked up Don't Starve. This was the number one game on my wishlist.

don2712: Great idea and I'd love to participate but living in the USA I'm at least 6 hours behind Europe and I can't stay up all night and miss work just in case a game I want comes along.
I am sure that many in very different time zones have missed the chance and the fun of participating, perhaps for these people some accomodation such as a weekend sale could be made if this promotion is ever repeated.
Whilst I have no doubt that the games will still sell quickly it does seem unusually unfair of G.O.G. to not consider the disadvantage to those of their supporters in other parts of the world who for various reasons due to time zones will not be able to participate.
However, I know you have sort of covered this by calling it an insomnia promo.
You realize that in some hours most of the Europeans will be asleep and most Americans will be awake? And the promo will go on. So there's absolutely nothing unfair about it. You won't see every deal, but that's a problem for everyone.

pH7: One thing, though; you're not told if you already have the game on the gamecard page. For someone with such a terrible memory as I have, that may lead to either buying games you already have, or - worse - not buying games you don't have..

Thespian*: If you already own the game, you get the "This is a gift order" check box with a tick in it and grayed out. ;)
Ah, of course.. =)
I didn't go that far when trying with System Shock 2 as I was fairly certain I'd already bought that one =P

jamyskis: Well, the 400 copies of Don't Starve are certainly taking longer to disappear than the 500 copies of System Shock 2.

Possibly because everyone's expecting it to pop up in some bundle soon (probably the next numbered Humble Indie Bundle).
Perhaps they could promo two games simultaneously, but the twist is they're sitting on the same pile. So, when the number runs out, both games end their sale, even if Game A sold 175 copies and Game B 25.
Every time GOG pops in with something original, there are people whining. But that doesn't matter, promo seems to be working fine.

I am not going to cry over the fact many games will fly over my head when I will be sleeping, because, you know, they are just games.

Coelocanth: What's on your wishlist? You never know; maybe someone could pick one or two of them up for you.

ashley2ashes: awe thanks thats sweet, but i dont want free games. i'm just saying its kind of a raw deal to lots of people. i think even giving some advanced warning that this type of sale will be coming up would have been really nice on GoGs part so that we could have maybe even brought our cc's to classes or work etc with us, yknow :\ hopefully they can think of something like that next time. maybe they did and i didnt see it, thats possible also.
You don't keep your cards in your wallet? :p
Come on VR Soccer. I am hoping for a 1% discount with 10,000 copies

Wait, what? System Shock was there, too? Damn!

almabrds: Not a good situation for you. But doesn't mean the promo sucks.

Telika: This focus on "you" and accusation of "self-entitlement" quite hints at a difference of perspective (and at your own implicit "i"). We're not nagging about ourselves (we're online right now, if we can nag we can grab). If you can't concieve a less self-centered perspective, indeed, you'll miss the more general point a bit.
Everyone is free to their own interpretation. I saw his post, and I believe he was trying to say that the promo sucks, that this was a fact. But I see that a lot of people are enjoying this promo (including me).
It's ok if you don't like me.

This. Yes.
