Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

MGShogun: This community is quite amazing, that's for sure. I've been here for 3 years and it's my home forum. :)

Briareos262: same here although I guess around for 2 years, seems alot longer tho. I remember the free Fallout game enticed me to join up oh so long ago ^_^ Granted I already had the game in physical format. The digital method is just so much easier =)

Also this fun sale got me out of lurker mode into this entertaining thread ^_^
This sale is quite something, isn't it? I haven't been this eager since SDCC last summer.

CelestialBunny: ... they should really follow Steams example ...
GoG is too busy cracking their own molds... :D

justanoldgamer: I'm thinking of ordering in for dinner, probably chicken with the poutine DLC.
Don't fall for the DLC. It was supposed to be included, they just pulled it out so they get more money. Greedy bastards.
Speaking of old adventure games, anyone here that played Future Wars=)?
If I can just get one more game I want I will walk away happy..... (Ok, I am already happy but you know what I mean...)
I remember finally joining when "Beneath a Steel Sky" was offered for free and feeling a moment of regret when GOG offered Fallout for free about six months after purchasing it (on sale). GOG is one of the best sites (if not the best) to emerge from the advent of the internet and high speed access.

BelowTheBelt: My list so far (never owned or played any of these, so I'm pretty excited about it);

Bought
Deus Ex
Syberia
Populous
Might & Magic 6 Pack
Jade Empire
Heroes of Might & Magic 3

Waiting for:
Ulitma 7 (never played)
Ultima Underworld (never played)
..Possibly one of the Thief titles...not sure.

I'm also gonna pick up Witcher in the weekend sale

Already have NWN1 & 2, and Planescape.

Craig234: You're doing great.

I'd suggest Heroes maybe top of the list to try.
Cool. Thanks. Do most people DL these games and put them on zip drive for safekeeping/backup? Is that possible?

This is a fun sale, although a bit frustrating as well. Kinda like a good game. :)

plan99: I don't recall any games made from actual Lovecraft titles/stories. IMO The Lurking Horror was closet in feel.
avatar
mike80: If you like lovecraftian text adventures I'd recommend and [url=http://ifdb.tads.org/viewgame?id=9ntef9expou18abv]The King of Shreds and Patches (both free indies).
Hey, thanks. I'll check those out. I ran into another one a while ago that I THINK was browser-based, but it's slipping ym mind at the moment.
I bought:

Evoland
Anvil of Dawn
Rogue Legacy
Psychonauts

Now waiting for "Don't starve", which will be my last game at the promo, since game funds for this month will be finished.

Selinea: I can't believe I missed Deux Ex all three rounds, derp.

I bought Primordia and The Witcher 2 (even though I'm only on chapter 3 of The Witcher, and by the time I'm ready for The Witcher 2, prices will probably have fallen even further, haha) I also just bought the Blackwell Bundle as a gift for one of my high school friends.

Still waiting on Planetscape and Thief, blah. At least all the game stalking is forcing me to write NaNo while I wait instead of playing the games I bought and getting sucked into the game for hours.
Keep up hope for the Annual Christmas Sale Event. There might also be a Black Friday Sale event in two weeks with Deus Ex or other goodies not included this time.

Cardian: I have to admit that in this day and age that became kind of a plus for me. I rather enjoy a short but sweet adventure story than something that takes forever. I just don't have the time anymore. But those people are correct, the games are not that hard compared to the classics they mimic. If that is a downside for you, this might not be the right thing. Especially if you've dealt with your fair share of puzzles. Still, it's well crafted with good stories and great characters and that's more than many longer adventures have to offer these days.
avatar
Shendue: The fact is that there are yet so many old classics of the adventure genre i didn't play that i'd rather focus on those before looking for new ones, unless they are true gems. And this one looks good to me, but i could play Lure of the Temptress or I have no mouth instead.
Not to mention those new adventures i bought on bargain sales here and there in physical copies that i already own and have yet to start playing, like The Whispered World, Gemini Rue or Gray Matter.
This one seems more like something i'd buy if i'm an avid gamer that already played every of those adventures and is looking for something new.
I actually have the same problem that I have so many unplayed games. Still, 3 bucks for the 4 games of the Blackwell Bundle are an awesome deal if someone plans to play it in the future and I don't really see it going much lower without it being in a Humble Bundle or something alike. But that's just the clinically insane collector in me talking now.
lets play a game: show us how you keep an eye on the sales^^

here is my way

I've so missed so many comi-cons.....just too poor to go...even tho there not too far....

Knofbath: You're hitting the Akamai servers instead of GoG. Try just gog.com instead of www.gog.com.

For reference I can hit that particular server in 42ms.
avatar
jpwiseguy: My bad...ok I'm pinging 32ms to just gog.com...the same with secure.gog.com.

Either way I am fierce on smashing the "Get It Now" button when it pops up, and I am denied every time, so I still believe it's more luck than anything. So who knows...
That's at least believable now, must be a fiber connection. I'm not in an area where fiber is available to me.
