Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Ungunbu: looking the "left" counter is somewhat addicting imo
Seriously. It's like a drug.

iuliand: So far I don't like this promo for the following reasons:

- first round was insanely fast. I tried to buy King's Bounty Crossworlds but due to the fact the PayPal "pay" button didn't worked on iPhone I couldn't finalize the purchase. The promo ended by the time I wanted to retry.
- the free games are meant to be grabbed by superhumans... I don't even dare to hope at grabbing one. Some free games I would have preferred to be discounted instead in order to have a chance to get them.
- now on the last round I'm still waiting for King's Bounty Crossworlds but seeing how slow some of the games pass I don't think I'll have a chance to get it before I need to go to sleep... I know it's called "insomnia" promo but that doesn't mean I really have to skip the night... I have to sleep.

I simply dislike guarding the site waiting for the next game. Imagine how much time is lost by so many people waiting for their favorite games to come up. It is not a user friendly promo.
sorry about the King's Bounty Crossworlds problem. I'm having the same problem with Don't Starve however work made me miss that one and when it went up on sale 2nd round then 3rd round it went free tons hours later was totally demoralized. Ironically the one free game I surprisingly got yesteday was King's Bounty Crossworlds, would have dropped ya the code if I noticed ya around and wanted the game that bad =)

BeorntheBear: I wonder if we can push the post count to 20,000 before this sale event is over?
It is looking more probable since most of the action is now happening in the thread rather than in the sales...

jpwiseguy: No, seriously...

...and my apologies if I came off like a bragging ***, wasn't my intention. Just saying that I think luck has more to do with it than connection speed.

seanbob: I'm in the US also, on a 20Mbps connection. Pinging www.gog.com nets me a lower 38ms ping compared to the 169ms ping I get to secure.gog.com, the one that actually matters.

While I do think this has some bearing on one's win rate, I was still lucky enough to win a copy of a game... accidentally. My finger slipped and clicked on a buy button, probably during a changing offer. Then I saw an email pop up with my win, while my browser just showed the bear. However, when I've *tried* to win a game, it's been fruitless.
www.gog.com still gives u the updates and triggers the new game to appear

justanoldgamer: DLCs are just what we use to call expansions. The difference is that they come out faster now, or it seems that way to me. In any case GOG does have some DLCs.
avatar
puviani: Nowadays, many DLCs often come out the same day as the base game is released. O_o
Honestly, I hate DLCs. I despise the ones that come out on day one most of all. It's basically them saying "Hey, buy this $60 game with a lot of content, but if you want all the rest (and we have quite a bit planned), fork over another $15-60+!"
Augh! Many of the DLCs I've seen don't add nearly enough new content to be worth the extra chunk of money. Give me the whole game all at once, not halfish of it and try to ransom the rest to me. >_> Almost as irritating, no, outraging as some of the DRM measures taken these days.

Knofbath: I really doubt your ping is that low. That's the kind of ping I get to my local ISP...

You're hitting the Akamai servers instead of GoG. Try just gog.com instead of www.gog.com.

For reference I can hit that particular server in 42ms.
I've been gone about 3 hours did I miss NWN2 or IWD1?
It looks like I missed out on a really good conversation about R.A. Salvatore and J.R.R. Tolkien last night. Man I love this thread!

This community is quite amazing, that's for sure. I've been here for 3 years and it's my home forum. :)

UncleOvid: Fair. But every voice counts. This is an industry that has made enormous effort to undermine the very concept of private ownership in consumerism, and it works as long as people accept it.

Sorry, I get kinda ranty about it myself. This isn't really the place for it, though.

itchy01ca01: hehe, if he wants to rant about Blizz, this is the place to do it. Probably not this thread though :P
lol nah im done. Hmm industry consumerism now that's a whole other subject I can get into tho won't. I will simply state we are all enslaved by all mega industry's whether we know it or not ;)
The market is totally saturated lol. This final round is going so much slower.

I bet sales on GOG will be dead for the next couple of weeks.
