Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Lemon_Curry: Can I expect 'Thief 3: Deadly Shadows' to run flawlessly in Windows 8 64bit?

Seeing the most recent review I'm somewhat hesitant to pick up a copy...
avatar
Captain_Picard: Windows 8 is a poorly optimized OS for games, especially games that were released for older OS's. there might be a few patches online to fix it if you do buy it, but I cannot guarantee that.
Thanks Picard. :)

However, I do expect (as well as prefer) GOG to fix things for me. ;)

For those curious about the matter here's an excerpt from the aforementioned review by scbraddy:
"Beware - On my Windows 8 Pro x64 machine Garrett gets "stuck" when trying to pick a lock or climb a ladder. I googled this problem and other people are also having this problem with both the GOG.com and Steam editions. I reinstalled the GOG.com edition several times to see if this problem would go away, but it never did."

mantarrochen: Thats odd. Usually consuming leads to euphoria. Anyway once you start playing these games your mood will improve. :)

Infin8ty: I don't find it odd. The feeling of money being torn out of your virtual wallet is excruciating. The payoff is *usually* worth it (here, almost definitely), but it starts painful.
Money, pfff. It is almost always worth it to get rid of that junk. Seriously.

Johnmourby: What I miss between Torchlight and now?

I've got so far:

Rogue Legacy
Master of Orion 1 +2
Chronicles of Riddick
Startopia
NWN 1
NWN 2
BG 1
BG 2
IWD 1
Plansescape
Shadow Man (Free)
System Shock 2
Blackwell Bundle
Genforge 1-5
Alpha Centauri
Sword of the Stars: The Pit
Jade Empire
Thief 2
Cognition
Theme Hospital
Blood

Still waiting for a few more as well. :)
DLCs are just what we use to call expansions. The difference is that they come out faster now, or it seems that way to me. In any case GOG does have some DLCs.

Look at all the games left and decide beforehand. Because of the higher numbers generally u have a good chance to get the games u want. ...well except freebies...

acarlson412: Well yeah I've already decided I want Startopia. I'm not worried about missing it, I just want it to come up so I can buy it and stop watching the sale so much, ya feel me? At least this thread is entertaining while I wait.
This thread is the best thing about the sale ^_^ And, as was pointed out before, you can tell your grandchildren where you were during many phases of The Keaning.

jpwiseguy: I'm on a 100mb connection (United States), and getting a consistent 2 - 6ms ping time to gog.com. I've been sitting here for the majority of sales, only breaking to sleep 6 hours. I click instantly when I see a freebie, before I even see what it is, and I have won nothing, zero.

Not that I really care about getting freebies, I have money to spend on stuff I want. Just sayin....

Knofbath: I really doubt your ping is that low. That's the kind of ping I get to my local ISP...
No, seriously...

...and my apologies if I came off like a bragging douche, wasn't my intention. Just saying that I think luck has more to do with it than connection speed.

So far I don't like this promo for the following reasons:

- first round was insanely fast. I tried to buy King's Bounty Crossworlds but due to the fact the PayPal "pay" button didn't worked on iPhone I couldn't finalize the purchase. The promo ended by the time I wanted to retry.
- the free games are meant to be grabbed by superhumans... I don't even dare to hope at grabbing one. Some free games I would have preferred to be discounted instead in order to have a chance to get them.
- now on the last round I'm still waiting for King's Bounty Crossworlds but seeing how slow some of the games pass I don't think I'll have a chance to get it before I need to go to sleep... I know it's called "insomnia" promo but that doesn't mean I really have to skip the night... I have to sleep.

I simply dislike guarding the site waiting for the next game. Imagine how much time is lost by so many people waiting for their favorite games to come up. It is not a user friendly promo.
Anybody know when Nexus might be up? I'm gonna leave work and It'll probably take me about an hour and a half to get home.

I'm scared D:

Suussshhsshsh, dont tell you you got NWN 2. They are out for blood!

silentp263: Ok, cause everyone said not to buy Diablo 3 (PC), that I should play PoE or TL2 instead. Which of the two do you think are better?
They are both very different in their feel, but I can't label one o the other as "better"
TL2 is more lighthearted and straightforward ("easier" to understand), while PoE has a darker imagery and feels somewhat more complex to grasp. Also PoE does not have a standard currency (gold), so that's something extra to learn too.

While both games have different classes, in TL2 the classes have their own separate skill trees, while in PoE the "skill tree" does not exist, as it's only a tree of passives which is the same for all classes (but you start in different positions, so build paths are still quite different for each class) while the actual skills are quest rewards/drops which you can use with any class as long as you meet some prerequisites

For Torchlight going in blindly it's hard to make huge mistakes, for PoE, after you get a feel for the controls i suggest you look for some more in depth information (ZiggyD's guides on youtube are very extensive for example)

Cardian: I have to admit that in this day and age that became kind of a plus for me. I rather enjoy a short but sweet adventure story than something that takes forever. I just don't have the time anymore. But those people are correct, the games are not that hard compared to the classics they mimic. If that is a downside for you, this might not be the right thing. Especially if you've dealt with your fair share of puzzles. Still, it's well crafted with good stories and great characters and that's more than many longer adventures have to offer these days.
I agree with you completely. I have two kids and one due in January, so my free time is limited and the idea of investing 30+ hours into one game is unappealing at this time in my life. I would much rather spend 5-15 hours playing a game with a great story that has enough of a challenge to keep me on edge.
Can anyone tell me what was up since Orion? Thx! ;]

Nowadays, many DLCs often come out the same day as the base game is released. O_o
What you see on the main page is what came after Orion I believe.
