Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

TurnipSlayerr: Am I correct that it says "last chance" for free games?
How should we know, the images changes before it is completely loaded, thats the speed of freebe ninjas :D
avatar
TurnipSlayerr: Hey guys, If a game shows up as free in this last run but hasn't been on sale a third time it will come on sale again. Am I correct that it says "last chance" for free games? Cause that's not accurate for games which haven't been on sale three times.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing that. I guess gonna have to wait for that Thief to show up then.
Edited - obsolete post, forum is too fast :o

Buenro-games: Seriously GOG, if you do that lame free shit with Thief 1, your promotion will officially suck ballz....
avatar
Chevette: ... I don't see how it sucks ballz to have a few copies given away for free during a sale where you get things dirt cheap anyway. Just because most people won't get the freebie doesn't mean the whole thing sucks.
I agree, I got lucky with one freebie yesterday (Master of Magic), but I don't expect to get them. You can sit there waiting with your mouse over the button and hit it at the instant it pops up, but so are thousands of other people. I don't really see the big deal. A lot of these deals on here are nearly free as it is.

I'm still waiting on Neverwinter Nights 2 though... Hopefully it comes up within the next hour in a half...

Yeah, I can remember System Shock 2 at least displaying Last Chance when it was on Free. But thanks for clearing that up so fast xP

turin1988: I agree that they need to do something to handle the traffic better, but 10 failed attempts due to the offer simply expiring really isn't incorrect or unexpected when you consider the limited availability and the number of people going for them.

It's not supposed to be a mass giveaway that everyone is entitled to.
avatar
Glider_of_chaos: I think the whole idea of whoever gets there first gets it was not the greatest they ever had.
If you think about it... To try to get the freebie you have to put some noticeable effort in. You have to watch the counter which mostly is as fun as watching the paint dry, (lets skip obligatory JK2 jokes here), you can't really concentrate on anything else without the risk of missing your chance and when finally you see the "free!" string, chances are you will miss it anyway. Internet speed, ping, packetloss, etc are way too prominent and I have slight suspicions about some tech-savvy guys have bots for this kind of stuff already. IMO it is really likely to cause frustration =(

Sadness, missed don't starve freebie right now and I did kinda want that... I honestly didn't expect to get any freebies once I realized how it works but I still feel a little bit frustrated.
Again, I really like the idea that I have some control over my chances. For me, waiting for the freebies to pop up and then clicking frantically is really exciting. And even when I fail more than 10 times in a row, I still feel like I have a much better chance than if i'm just entered into a draw or something.
Anyone else think that this last round should have just listed EVERY deal and let us buy the ones we're interested in? I'm out of patience waiting for La Mulana to come around... gonna check in haphazardly and will probably miss it.
avatar
Stoltverd: Well aquanox isn't selling so bad so i wont make it home in time for next one... D:
Please if NWN DIAMON or TORMENT. And if im lucky Icewind dale 2 and temple of elemental evil comes up, SOME ONE PLEASE BUY ONE FOR ME.
I HAVE MANY MANY GAMES TO TRADE IT FOR, including the complete geneforge saga (i'll thow in artwork and hintbooks for that one to sweeten it up) and mark of the ninja!

Will someone do that for me? PLEASE?
avatar
GhostwriterDoF: If you don't get one today, just wait three weeks for the Christmas sale, but save up for all the other titles that will be discounted, at Holiday Season rates...
Hope you are right and i don't miss them. Bye!
But please if someone do buy them for me... That would be great! Ill trade more than 2 games if needed.

That's just a human problem. If there were no freebies, this would be a great sale for everyone. It's like giving someone a buck. He's happy when you do that. Until you give someone else 5 bucks. Then the first person is angry, because he only got the one buck, although it was free.
I don't know anything about aquanox..
I am not sure.,,,,,,

Ninlil: Why Don't Starve for free GOG? why?! :sob: That is just cruel :(.
I know, I feel like giving up now. I've been here since the start of 'round 3' - that's 23 hours now. Seeing the game you want flash up as an unattainable freebie is a total kick in the nads
Now I can finally fix me some dinner! :D
