Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

bell02: all the new 3-d games looks for me the same... 3th person shooter or ego shooter etc.. all they look the same to me. Even Halo or cod ...for me exactly the same. Mass Effect or uncharted...for me its looks the same... nothing new there..

artwork is totaly repetitive nowdays! Only Daedalic or some other dev´s knows what is importan for a remarkable game.
Of Course the old games are the best ones because they dont hade the power of graphics, the focus for each game was mor on artwork, timeless art and story! But now, we have games that pushed out on the market only to increase the sells...
Devs have gotten kinda lazy... All games looks the same because all use Unreal or Unity as engine and Havok as physics.

iAmGeek: I just loaded up Duke Nukem II, and, as if to compliment my melancholia, my saved game is gone. :(
The Curse of Keane strikes again! No one buy lottery tickets or make appointments for check ups.
Not sure if they planned it so that the morning was an "off time", but it sure is working.

Hope the sales explode again after this game is done. Looking to snatch a lot that are still to come.

Xabyer_B: System Shock was free. The 80% offer hasn't appeared yet.

sgtlumpy: I thought it was the first sale put up when the event launched.
This was in the first round. Now is 3ª round.

greymochi: Hi Xabyer_B,

So does that mean System Shock 2 won't be available anymore? I was really hoping to get it. >_>
Thanks.

Thanks Xabyer_B! Now I just gotta be on the watch.
Holy cow... I went to bed when Thunderscape was on sale and it looks like I haven't missed anything! That took a while. Did it rival Jack Keane 2?
Pepperidge Farm remembers a time when Dragon Commander sold out in minutes...

I seem to have missed the info on the round system (waves), anyone care to elaborate a bit on it?
...do I really want to spend 22 dollars...I bought Divine Divinity...
Did it really take 8-10 hours for Book of Unwritten Tales and Thunderscape together to sell out? Things are going much slower now.

Everything went through, then repeated, then after the last repeat they came back again with Last Chance listed under the games.
GOG! WE WANT ICEWIND DALE 2 AND TEMPLE OF ELEMENTAL EVIL! (at least i do :P) PLEASE ADD THEM!

Continuing the 3D discussion:
I believe more games today should be made on 2D... 2D needs love!
I hear this Divinity game is pretty good, perhaps you should buy a copy, or 70.

That's a particularly reflective and literate mindset to start up Duke Nukem II in.

I always imagine the average Duke Nukem player to begin a game while thinking "Heh heh heh, time to kill, mwa ha ha ha hahhh!"

xenxander: I HATED the early 3-d games - the way they looked, I mean. Take the N64. Sure some games were pretty good on it, but the early age of 3-d games.. it's just horrible to look at. Dull, flat textures, jagged polygons.

Sure it was the prototype era of 3-d but that's what it should have been. Full systems shouldn't have been made, crafted on that horrible tech. It should have been the 'beta' of 3-d, and systems should have been built in the 3-d v2 era (IE PS2) only.
Then think of how stellar the N64 could actually have been.

to be fair, the Dreamcast sorta DID do that. They let some of the bad 3-d tech be experimented with and actually had a decent system.. too bad it's marketing department was a bunch of angry chimps trying to reach for a spoiled banana and couldn't understand how to market the thing.. so it flopped.

Fezred: Yeah, we went from increasingly detailed and lovingly painted environments that got better with every new update to the tech or generation of games to...blurry and bland blobs or angular horrors that you could barely make out and would see copy pasted across the game due to the limited or non-existent textures and extra tech woes to go with it. There was a lot of people just jumping on the 3D bandwagon as 3D was a selling feature and could be plastered all over the box art or even put into the title of the game. Eventually the 3D got to its feet but it was very hard going. The pre-PSX stuff was mostly a painful and extremely ugly experience or a hindrance to the game. A lot of games would have a "3D section" and they'd be the turd in the punchbowl. Jurassic Park had a nasty one, Birthright another, Albion, etc. I remember enjoying Albion a lot and then they dump you into this confusing and blurry mess in the dungeon and town areas. Didn't see the point there.

Again there were a few developers eventually worked out good uses for it and made some games around the limitations. FPS, flight sims, etc. all clearly benefited hugely early on. But most of it was a bad idea and lessened the quality of the game in the long run (and probably made it even more of a PITA to get running on the modern PC...).
When the N64 hit the market, they used to offer it, set up in the stores, for you to play. They usually had Mario 64 on it. I remember playing it and thinking.. "People actually like this system? It's horrible controller and it's ugly environment?"

I was the minority but I guess that means i was smarter. I remember 2-d games with pseudo-3d, like isometric Breath of Fire 2, or Secret of Mana, etc. Those games were awesome - detailed sprites with worlds you could still explore *sigh*

Even the original Playstation (now dubbed PSX) had better looking games, though it's early 3-d games didn't fair any better, yet they at least had 2-d sprites on most of them.

The worst player in the old 3-d games was the camera. You couldn't adjust it..... .WHY!?!?! At least not very well. Castlevania 64, Quest 64.. the camera was your worst enemy. Second was the textures but we already talked about that :p
Glad to find a kindred spirit on this issue. Even nostalgia can't make me like the N64 or Jaguar.
