Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Faenwulf: I guess everyone would take a gifted copy (because that would mean it would finally sell out).
I would take one too, but asking for that is madness. ;)

(sorry, couldn't resist)
Darn, I have to go to my freaking 2-hour 1-credit physics lab.... Uh, I hope I don't miss much....

greymochi: Hi Xabyer_B,

So does that mean System Shock 2 won't be available anymore? I was really hoping to get it. >_>
Thanks.
System Shock was free. The 80% offer hasn't appeared yet.
So, which of the remaining games would you guys consider "must haves"?

VultureDude: darn, I missed Blood, does this go on sale often?
No. I missed it too. Check the holiday sale, 50% off.
While I'm waiting I may as well update the other half's laptop with a couple of games :)

npalsensei: +1 I couldn't stand the early 3D. I was actually puzzled why would anyone do that when he could do some pretty awesome 2D till 3D gets at an acceptable level.

xenxander: I HATED the early 3-d games - the way they looked, I mean. Take the N64. Sure some games were pretty good on it, but the early age of 3-d games.. it's just horrible to look at. Dull, flat textures, jagged polygons.

Sure it was the prototype era of 3-d but that's what it should have been. Full systems shouldn't have been made, crafted on that horrible tech. It should have been the 'beta' of 3-d, and systems should have been built in the 3-d v2 era (IE PS2) only.
Then think of how stellar the N64 could actually have been.

to be fair, the Dreamcast sorta DID do that. They let some of the bad 3-d tech be experimented with and actually had a decent system.. too bad it's marketing department was a bunch of angry chimps trying to reach for a spoiled banana and couldn't understand how to market the thing.. so it flopped.
Yeah, we went from increasingly detailed and lovingly painted environments that got better with every new update to the tech or generation of games to...blurry and bland blobs or angular horrors that you could barely make out and would see copy pasted across the game due to the limited or non-existent textures and extra tech woes to go with it. There was a lot of people just jumping on the 3D bandwagon as 3D was a selling feature and could be plastered all over the box art or even put into the title of the game. Eventually the 3D got to its feet but it was very hard going. The pre-PSX stuff was mostly a painful and extremely ugly experience or a hindrance to the game. A lot of games would have a "3D section" and they'd be the turd in the punchbowl. Jurassic Park had a nasty one, Birthright another, Albion, etc. I remember enjoying Albion a lot and then they dump you into this confusing and blurry mess in the dungeon and town areas. Didn't see the point there.

Again there were a few developers eventually worked out good uses for it and made some games around the limitations. FPS, flight sims, etc. all clearly benefited hugely early on. But most of it was a bad idea and lessened the quality of the game in the long run (and probably made it even more of a PITA to get running on the modern PC...).

xenonemo: Okay, GOG, I'm awake... it was very nice of you to let me get some sleep, but you can stop your Keane-a-thon now. :P
avatar
Stoltverd: YEah... It wouldn't be so bad if they gave us 1 or 2 good games in a row.

In hopes og gog staff seeing this: Please add Icewind dale 2 and temple of elemental evil to the mix!!!

VultureDude: darn, I missed Blood, does this go on sale often?

Stoltverd: It was last chance. sorry mate
Darn! If anyone ever finds themselves with an extra Blood, you know where to send it ;)
I just loaded up Duke Nukem II, and, as if to compliment my melancholia, my saved game is gone. :(
Just come back after having to go away for the morning and bought Dragon Commander. One more off the wishlist, only one more to go.

This is a list of the games that have already made their appearance in the third and final round. The big long alphabetical list - that claims to have been generated randomly in the most freak RNG occurrence since Adam rolled an 18-18-18-18-18-18 character in the mists of time for Ultima I :-P - that's the list of games still to appear. So, you haven't missed System Shock 2; it should come around again.

VultureDude: darn, I missed Blood, does this go on sale often?
Yeah, it does... don't know if it's ever been as low as the price they were selling it for this time, though. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it on sale during the winter sale.
all the new 3-d games looks for me the same... 3th person shooter or ego shooter etc.. all they look the same to me. Even Halo or cod ...for me exactly the same. Mass Effect or uncharted...for me its looks the same... nothing new there..

artwork is totaly repetitive nowdays! Only Daedalic or some other dev´s knows what is importan for a remarkable game.
Of Course the old games are the best ones because they dont hade the power of graphics, the focus for each game was mor on artwork, timeless art and story! But now, we have games that pushed out on the market only to increase the sells...

I thought it was the first sale put up when the event launched.

Starmaker: It most likely will be. Free games didn't count in the first two waves as valid appearances.
Hi Starmaker,

Thanks for the response! Hope I can get it, haha.
