Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

trebor8273: i have completely forgot is retro city rampage in the promo?
It was very briefly one of the free offers...

Alien8n: As many as you want, you're limited by how many pc's you can login to. So you can't play one game on one pc while someone else plays another on a second pc

Khaleesia87: Good, then no problems at all...except the fact that I want Lucius to be in italian of course.
If the other pc have the game installed they could use offline mode and play at the same time!

Khaleesia87: Do they say whenever it's Desura or Steam or any other platform before the purchase? *dumb question* *but I just wanna be careful, my paypal balance is crying*

BTCentral: All games in the DIRT bundle are redeemable on Steam, I can't say if you also get a DRM free version or not because I have not purchased it - no mention of one though, so I would assume it's Steam only.
They usually supply you with a good deal of information when you click the games. There are also small logos that stand for the platforms and services that you get codes for.

Yep, just checked with someone that purchased it, all games are Steam only this time - no DRM free versions provided.

Faenwulf: Yes, saw it two times already. Should be coming up later in this round.
cheers can you remember ts price?
Don't know why everyone is taking the mickey out of Jack Keane. How long it takes for the copies to go seems to be directly proportional to the price they go at. Games that went for under $2 were gone within a minute, any game that was still more than $10 after the discount stayed up for a long time. The sales are less dependent on the quality of the game, and more on whether people actually believe that it's an exclusive deal...

WRONG! unwritten tales is an AWESOME GAME. Just look at the metacritic. And was under 10. And it stood there like what? 4-5 hours?

garrus74: You seem to be confused between product value and fixed cost of packaging. ...
So please stop saying nonsense, for Keane's sake:)
While I have plenty to disagree on with jamyskis, I don't really think he's confused about anything. He's talking about the cost of access to the game for the end user. You started talking about the cost of developing the product for the developer and THEN switched to perceived worth. These are different processes. No one is entitled to a sale. Making something and selling access to it are different businesses. if you can't make money selling copies, try selling something else to support your development efforts.

And yes, it's a real problem that digital distribution already faces. Because the stuff you might want to sell copies of isn't only competing with the same stuff on TPB, it's also competing with all the free entertainment the internet provides. There are more free comics on the internet than you can read in a lifetime. Just comics. That's why we have sequelitis and franchise milking; at least pedigreed established franchises have a name recognition advantage over all the free stuff you've never heard of.

"GOG needs to keep the servers running" is not a good argument. It nevar evar was. Consuming electricity is not a goal in and of itself. You need GOG to keep their servers running so you can get games off them. And when most people would rather grab a free mod of a free game off a torrent, the business of selling copies will be over.
