Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

amok:
Have you started seeing the sales with "last chance" come up again then?

"Saying that there is 200 left is a white lie, when there is going to be more, does not matter that it says elsewhere that this is not the case... coupled with the bar going down, this is a pressuring sales tactic. I despise those personally. "

No white lie you just didn't know or refused to accept how the sale works which is a set number of a game getting sold in multiple batches. That "X left" is for the batch not in total.

RandomJC: To people who have paid closer attention to me. Has Psychonauts been apart of the Insomnia sale? I could have sworn I saw it...of course I am probably sure I'm imagining all this right now.

Daliz: We're close now..

Just please, no more slow games today :P
its no a matter of it being a slow game first two times it was up it sold pretty fast, its just gog fault for putting too many copies of games up on last round, should of been less copies not more for third round, most people would of picked the games up in the first two rounds
If there is going to be another sale like this in the future, we should be better prepared by making an IRC channel and a public donation site to put Keane sales out of misery, then giving those copies away a week after.
My peeps on the east coast (USA) must be waking up, the counter's going pretty steady! :D
Words cannot express my disappointment over having weekend sale WITHOUT Jack Keane. I feel cheated and dirty.

Briareos262: OMG I love Maniac Mansion, I still have it for the C64. Yeah I remember some variations of the Atari systems. My cousin had the Atari 5200 and I remember my aunt sledgehammering that poor system later on because he played it too much or something. The Atari ST and Amiga system really looked awesome at its time, tho sadly never gotten to play any games from them.

CorranHorn: I could "only" afford the cheaper ones, when Atari 1200 was released I wanted that one so badly but it cost the same price as a PC at that time not to mention the other computers I wanted to own (like Atari TT and Amiga 3000=)).
yeah same here. I was consider myself fortunate to even get an Atari system even tho it was the 2600, my parents really didn't have alot of money back then. Being able to at least play the 5200 for awhile at my cousins house was great, have fond memories of Miner 49er heh. The computers I wanted to own back in the day were IBM however they were much too pricey and had settled getting the C64 which I think ended up extremely well with alot of the great games that came out for it with Wasteland and the SSI series, Ultima Games, and Might and Magic series.
@Stoltverd
Nothing. Just Nothing.
Thunderkeane started after Book of unwritten tales, if I remember correctly.

Thunderscape, and it's still around. And pages of belittling the game for not selling away in a microsecond.

amok: Would you not have gotten the same games in a normal 80% discount sale, which may last 2 days (as this have), but with the option to buy the game you want when you want. Read about the games on offer, see what they are like, instead of hovering on the front page hoping that a game you want may pop up next time?

But then hovering on the front page does bring up the timer going down with the words "200 left" "Buy now"....
avatar
CorranHorn: Most of the games with that discount are sold as a package or they are sold on the more you buy the less you pay basis. I can´t recall seeing only Thief 2 going for the price they have in this sale if you not also buy other games.
Maybe I'm just a faster typer/reader than most people, but I was able to look through the GOG page and even google a few games to get some reviews/screenshots etc. before I bought ANYTHING.

The only exceptions were the likes of NWN/BG/SS2 because I already knew I wanted them.

Sure, you could have waited for a more stable sale, but I don't really see anything wrong with this one. In principle I can, with people who aren't quite as stubborn minded as me giving in and impulse buying, but I didn't experience.

I guess it's a case of, I understand YOUR misgivings, but I have none of my own. I actually really enjoyed the sale and posting in this forum.
