Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

amok: No, gog have had 80% off on games before also.
avatar
GabiMoro: They had 80% off on games before very, very rarely. In fact I only recall that D&D games were sold at 80% discount, but I had to buy the whole pack.
And I still do not see what the % of the discount have to do about what I did not like about the sale... do you say that I should accept things I do not like if the price is right? I do not work that way, sorry.

avatar
amok: Anyway, discussion whether it was a high or low discount really have nothing to do about what I was complaining about. It was a good sale in terms of discounts, yes, but a bad sale in terms of execution. I was talking about how the sale was done, not about the % discount of the sale. I was objecting to the pressuring tactics and the white lies on the front page. that do not change whether it was 5% or 95% discount.
avatar
GabiMoro: Yes, the sale's terms of execution could be better. A timer perhaps (max 30 minutes per game), an info about which game will be next on sale and so on.
But lies? You are exagerating. And nobody forced me to buy a game I didn't want. I can complain the same thing about the D&D games sale that I was forced to buy Dragonshard or DemonStone so I could get the games I wanted at 80% discount, no?
Yeah, but then they at least gave you a couple of days considering it... it is also not the point I am trying to make. Saying that there are worse type of sales do not make this one good. It is a logical fallacy. I am taking about this sale, not thos gOg did before.

Saying that there is 200 left is a white lie, when there is going to be more, does not matter that it says elsewhere that this is not the case... coupled with the bar going down, this is a pressuring sales tactic. I despise those personally.

You liked the sales? That's fine, and good for you. Personally I did not like them at all, I felt they are trying to tap into things I do not like in manipulative marketing, and gog did fall a bit in my estimate for doing this. That is the feeling I am left with after this sale. Your feeling may vary.
I hope I won't lose the Thunderscape offer.

RandomJC: To people who have paid closer attention to me. Has Psychonauts been apart of the Insomnia sale? I could have sworn I saw it...of course I am probably sure I'm imagining all this right now.
Yes it is :)

If only gog.com had a balance system, or whatever it is called, where I can charge money to my account, and use THAT to pay for my games..
GOG MAKE IT HAPPEN ... please ;D

That way I only have to make a single credit card transaction for a lump sum of money....
instead of many MANY purchases on my credit card within a single day.
I think if the next one is a free game then you would have a good chance of getting it (since nobody is really looking at the front page right now)
Fingers crossed for Don't Starve to pop up

CorranHorn: Heard people mentioning the Atair but I never got one, I did however get an Atari 520 ST after a friend of mine showed me Maniac Mansion, many good games came to that system.

Also got an Amiga 500, I remember when people had the same arguments about Amiga and Atari as the one we are seeing now on Sony vs Microsoft (and Sega vs Nintendo, makes the whole Microsoft vs Sony thing look lame).

Briareos262: OMG I love Maniac Mansion, I still have it for the C64. Yeah I remember some variations of the Atari systems. My cousin had the Atari 5200 and I remember my aunt sledgehammering that poor system later on because he played it too much or something. The Atari ST and Amiga system really looked awesome at its time, tho sadly never gotten to play any games from them.
I could "only" afford the cheaper ones, when Atari 1200 was released I wanted that one so badly but it cost the same price as a PC at that time not to mention the other computers I wanted to own (like Atari TT and Amiga 3000=)).
