Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

israr665: Hello my friend :) first of all thanks for the info much appreciated :D, yea I am also awake for that game as well, it looks good.
mhmm hopefully this thunderscape ordeal is nearly over :)

Briareos262: heh thanks. yeah I give it another hour or so and maybe it will be over. It's been excruciating slow. However good for people that need to sleep before a good a potential sale ^_^
I also came back for this game :D Really hope it comes soon after this slow going games atm

hunvagy: Hmm, what was the discounted price for Don't Starve? Just in case it comes back, I should probably charge my "buy games" virtual card xD
avatar
mantarrochen: I paid $4.99 - which was ~€3.80.
Oooh, thanks everyone *fails at multiquote*

GabiMoro: They had 80% off on games before very, very rarely. In fact I only recall that D&D games were sold at 80% discount, but I had to buy the whole pack.
I think Alan Wake was at 80% last Christmas, or maybe it was at a later sale, but there was definitely a high discount on it.

Don't Starve -> 4,99$
avatar
Kunovski: hmm... out of those two dungeons that were on sale I'm more fond of Anvil of Dawn, Thunderscape seems kinda odd...

anyhow, Stonekeep still RULES!

CorranHorn: Only played tried it for a couple of minutes after buying it here on GoG in sale. It´s a game I´m sure I will like, reminds me of Lands Of lore 2.

Dungeon Master is gem, it´s free and there is even a more modern version of the game to work on modern computers. If you like games like Eye Of the Beholder, Legend Of Grimrock then download the game I don´t think you will regret doing so if you like "old school" and graphics are only a bonus.
nah, I've played DM as a kid and a couple of years ago too and it didn't age well... I didn't like it much back then either, probably not my cup of tea :)

but I really like Stonekeep as it has really great mechanics and a very modern controls, so that the game is fun to play even now, even for people who never tried a dungeon before...

and of course, Legend of Grimrock is awesome :D
They probably need to do something or this promo is wrecked

dhrverbruggen: IMO they are not lying.. They told us there would be repeats.. read there post

jamyskis: One of the biggest problems with this sale was GOG's assertion that the only way to make these deep discounts possible was to limit the number of licences sold. This would not be problematic in its own right, were it not for the fact many of the games that were heavily discounted had already been in bundles and have already been subject to similar reductions on Steam and other platforms in the past.

It's quite possible that this marks the start of a new trend in digital distribution - it's been common knowledge for a while now that publishers and developers have been rather unhappy with the deep discount mentality in PC gaming - but the implication that the only way to get these publishers to agree to these discounts was to limit quantities is very misleading when it has been demonstrated that most of these games have seen similar discounts before with unlimited quantities.

In my opinion, this PR stunt was really less about the ability to negotiate discounts with publishers than it was to demonstrate to publishers that limiting supply can create the same effect as daily deals without the effect of sucking the potential future market dry. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this model gradually became the norm on other platforms.
Publishers are talking about games as a license, fine then if I own any of those games on one format I should be able to get them on another. So that means I´m entitled to many old games without having to pay a dime for them again.

I can only speak for myself but I have more games than I´ll ever would be able to play in a lifetime, I don´t need to buy games so I will just skip it if I can´t get a game at the price to my liking. Also Humble Bundle isn´t going anywhere, I can get my games from them and time is, as I said, not a factor for me.

I´ve also backed some games on Kickstarter like Wasteland 2, Elite : Dangerous, Star Citizen so I have no problem paying full price for a game I want.

There was also the entire telltale developer 80% off.

And there were several PICK 5 for 80% off sales as well. (one had 20 games, so you could pick 5 four times to get all 20 @ 80% off :D)

Oh, and I think there was an alan wake off for 85-90% off, I forget.

Just throwing this out there.

yep there was. I remember picking up the whole series here even tho I had it on Steam. I always prefer GoG version due to DRM FREE. I have a terrible internet connection visiting my mom, my aunt pays for like the slowest DSL speed. its god awful.

Yes, you are right, in fact I think the discount was even bigger 85 or 90%. But that is because the Alan Wake franchise were sold by Humble Bundle at any price you want. With 1 $ you could get both games DRM-free and a Steam key, so this is a particular case I guess.

Yes, but they weren't individual games, you needed to buy more games to get the 80% discount (and sometime you got games that you dind't want).

high rated
69 left, not bad... oh 68 now.
It hurts, this waiting, specially when I'm tired, I'm in distress!

jamyskis: It is indeed, but if you compare the first run to this point, it confirms precisely the point I'm making. They sold 400 copies in around 5 minutes yesterday. Now that the market has dried up, how many are they selling now?

When demand is believed to outstrip supply, people will jump all over it and engage in panic buying.
Indeed, that's why they put limits on sales/promos of course... quantity, limit per customer, timeframe etc.
