Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

BlueLemon: Don't think you missed anything. Thunderscape was up after that..
Wow. lucky me. Awful for everyone else XD

CorranHorn: Heard people mentioning the Atair but I never got one, I did however get an Atari 520 ST after a friend of mine showed me Maniac Mansion, many good games came to that system.

Also got an Amiga 500, I remember when people had the same arguments about Amiga and Atari as the one we are seeing now on Sony vs Microsoft (and Sega vs Nintendo, makes the whole Microsoft vs Sony thing look lame).
avatar
Cardian: I, too, had an Amiga 500 (later even with the 1MB memory expansion, woot!) and I was guilty in bringing it down... I had 2 original copies of games, all the others of my endless collection were pirated. That's why I don't pirate anymore. I felt guilty when the Amiga went down...
The worst part with those older computers was switching disks, I still remember Space Quest IV on the Amiga, gamers today don´t know how lucky they are=).

mantarrochen: Another helpful soul in this thread already mentioned it but let me stress this again:

The weekend sale is up! Mac Mix Max Pack - games for Mac and PC. Like Witcher 1, Magic Carpet Plus, Another World 20th or Populous.
Yep very nice sale. I just picked up Stronghold HD. The rest I have except that slipstream game. I have like zero interest in racing games.....with exception to extreme few like carrmaggdon.
So, which games went on Last Chance after Eador? xP
I hate this thing. Taking my money, giving me good games. (and bad ones, but I paid dang-nabbit)
Give me thief 2 and NW2. I was dumb enough to buy thief 3!

amok: No, gog have had 80% off on games before also.
They had 80% off on games before very, very rarely. In fact I only recall that D&D games were sold at 80% discount, but I had to buy the whole pack.

avatar
amok: Anyway, discussion whether it was a high or low discount really have nothing to do about what I was complaining about. It was a good sale in terms of discounts, yes, but a bad sale in terms of execution. I was talking about how the sale was done, not about the % discount of the sale. I was objecting to the pressuring tactics and the white lies on the front page. that do not change whether it was 5% or 95% discount.
Yes, the sale's terms of execution could be better. A timer perhaps (max 30 minutes per game), an info about which game will be next on sale and so on.
But lies? You are exagerating. And nobody forced me to buy a game I didn't want. I can complain the same thing about the D&D games sale that I was forced to buy Dragonshard or DemonStone so I could get the games I wanted at 80% discount, no?

Briareos262: I've heard lots of praise about it from my friend at work. It's the only one I'm really staying awake for ^_^
You probably already know that as hey I remember you. I think you were looking for Thief 1 or something. It hasn't showed up yet. Were in limbo land with Thunderscape past couple hours....
avatar
israr665: Hello my friend :) first of all thanks for the info much appreciated :D, yea I am also awake for that game as well, it looks good.
mhmm hopefully this thunderscape ordeal is nearly over :)
heh thanks. yeah I give it another hour or so and maybe it will be over. It's been excruciating slow. However good for people that need to sleep before a good a potential sale ^_^
Hmm, what was the discounted price for Don't Starve? Just in case it comes back, I should probably charge my "buy games" virtual card xD
Stupid question, but does anyone having problems downloading Alpha Centauri bought at this sale? It gives me checksum error. Other games, regardless of time of purchase works fine.

Oh goodie, thanks. Well, BG2 and MM6, those must have gone in a flash. Which game stalled the sale during those 10 hours I was away? xP Possibly the last two.
