Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

CorranHorn: Legend of Zelda I played before I got a NES, never bought it but I did borrow Zelda on SNES and that is the reason I still want to play all those Zelda games. I also borrowed Super Metroid and imho it´s one of the best console games I ever played.

Donkey Kong Country made me a Rare fan and it´s so sad to see that Rare today isn´t the Rare I liked as a kid.
avatar
Briareos262: yeah I too miss the old Rare. Donkey Kong was simply amazing when it was released on the SNES
The greatest atrocity committed by "new Rare" is Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts.... Honestly, this sealed the deal in me never supporting the XBOX console or new Rare ever....

Khaleesia87: I can stop the video whenever I want so no big deal =D I am loving this season so much but I paused a few times already to record my baby budgie speaking his first words....I don't know why but he decided to become talkative during this promo..

a coincidence? don't think so.
avatar
Cardian: You say that now, but Breaking Bad gets better and more intense with every episode in the final season ;)
I couldn't agree more. I was hooked badly since towards the end of the first season and its been pure awesomeness since =D

CorranHorn: Heard people mentioning the Atair but I never got one, I did however get an Atari 520 ST after a friend of mine showed me Maniac Mansion, many good games came to that system.

Also got an Amiga 500, I remember when people had the same arguments about Amiga and Atari as the one we are seeing now on Sony vs Microsoft (and Sega vs Nintendo, makes the whole Microsoft vs Sony thing look lame).
avatar
Briareos262: OMG I love Maniac Mansion, I still have it for the C64. Yeah I remember some variations of the Atari systems. My cousin had the Atari 5200 and I remember my aunt sledgehammering that poor system later on because he played it too much or something. The Atari ST and Amiga system really looked awesome at its time, tho sadly never gotten to play any games from them.
I also had (and still have) an Amiga 500 and of course later on with the 1MB extension. Man, that slot was huge, took almost the whole backside of the keyboard (which was the computer).

I believe the Amiga reached its natural end because developers migrated to the PC more and more and the PC featured HDD systems practically from the get go. The latter one was huge, I remember juggling 11 disks while playing Monkey Island 2, that was no source for joy, I can tell you. Piracy was as rampant on PC as on the Amiga if not more so that didnt stop the progress. The Amiga had better music in general though.
I wonder if I can develop Duke Nukem Forever 2 before thunderrscape go bye bye
Edit: Nevermind, I don't want to get involved in that discussion.

Cardian: I, too, had an Amiga 500 (later even with the 1MB memory expansion, woot!) and I was guilty in bringing it down... I had 2 original copies of games, all the others of my endless collection were pirated. That's why I don't pirate anymore. I felt guilty when the Amiga went down...
avatar
Woolytoes: This has nothing to do with piracy that the Amiga went down. It was frikkin Commodore itself which tried to get into PC maket in the US and failed so hard that the whole company went down :(
I still think that piracy had an impact. All of my friends only had pirated games on the Amiga with the occasional 2 original copies. I still have some copies of code wheels and manual printouts lying around.

Don't deny me my guilt! ;)

Kunovski: hmm... out of those two dungeons that were on sale I'm more fond of Anvil of Dawn, Thunderscape seems kinda odd...

anyhow, Stonekeep still RULES!
Only played tried it for a couple of minutes after buying it here on GoG in sale. It´s a game I´m sure I will like, reminds me of Lands Of lore 2.

Dungeon Master is gem, it´s free and there is even a more modern version of the game to work on modern computers. If you like games like Eye Of the Beholder, Legend Of Grimrock then download the game I don´t think you will regret doing so if you like "old school" and graphics are only a bonus.
If NWN2 isn't the game after Keanescape, my sleep will be haunted by nightmares of lost value. My suggestion to those still awake when it hits; stockpile.

Faenwulf: I have been seriously thinking abotu buying Rise of the Thunderkeane. ;)
But just to be done with it. And then never, ever play it.

Any other martyrs?
*raises hand*

Though not sure I count, since the game was on my wish list. I kind of picked it in a half-sleepy state though, seeing as how it is only 60% off. Oh well. With the backlog I have, what is one more game going to do? :-p

jackster79: Good morning All. I see the forum pages jumped by 13 since I checked out 5 hours ago. Per chance, did I miss Assassin's Creed?
avatar
Cardian: You didn't miss anything. You probably checked out during Book of Unwritten Keanes. Well, Thunderkeane is the game after that...
I did. And that is all that happened? Just BOUT and Thunderkeane?

I do not know whether to feel happy or sad. I was just thinking that these last two nights I did not sleep well due to subconscious obsessing over whether I was going to miss a good sale, and thus GOG hates me to be doing them. Now I do not feel so bad about that, but I feel bad for all of my fellow GOGers who have been stuck waiting.

Thanks for posting this. Guess HoMM5 and Beyond Good and Evil will wait unless GoG has a little surprise for us.

amok: "Border on" lying. It do not matter if they say it in a post - the front page says "XXX left. Last chance! Buy now".

Since I knew there are repeats, then I am not going straight out saying lying, but .... "Last chance"? not really. Anyway, you may like them, that's fine. I think it is dirty sales tactics meant to pray on some of the less finer aspects human nature - we do not want to miss out.
avatar
Starmaker: No. "Last chance" only appeared on the third run, starting with yesterday evening's RotT. There's no lying involved whatsoever unless you think "last chance" is intended to falsely imply the games are disappearing off GOG (in which case you're wrong, too). If there's be a fourth run, sure, go ahead and call them liars. If games were discounted deeper on subsequent runs, then you could have some basis to call the sale exploitative*. Not as it is now.

*And you know what? GOG doesn't earn any money from the folks glued to the screen. With a user's individual choice to wait for a discount, you lose money (unless you're having fun or are a kid, in the latter case your parents are being idiots) and so does GOG. For them, it would be better if you the individual user disregarded the sale and bought the game they wanted at full price.

Also, your spelling is abnormally atrocious today, please go and have some sleep.
Just woke up, need more coffee :)

Gog had this sale for 2 days, with 102 games on various discounts (80%-50%). For the sake of the customer - what would have been the difference in having all those sales in the 'normal' type of sale?

Doing as they have done has been very successful for gog, it brought a lot PR and they flogged a lot of games. Fine for them, but it has taken in use of some tactics which I do not like, and which are not in the best interest for the buyer. They neither get a deeper discount than they do in a normal sale (80% - 50% is normal for sales now), nor the option to brows and shop the games at their leisure. Do it was a good move for gog, but I really do not like those types of pressuring sales tactics. (You may not think so, but the counter on the front page do make it so)

(not to mention they may have been able to flog some more copies of less popular games this way, than they would have in a normal sale... I don't know... maybe the digital warehouse needed some Christmas cleaning?)
Too bad I already got everything from the weekend promo that I want (which is actually 12 games).
