Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Briareos262: Heh, I too played those, they were great, gosh so many sleepless fun nights I had with Mario Bros. Ice climber was fun too. I played quite a bit of that. The one that got me most was Legend of Zelda and Dragon Warrior, so many timesink hours i had put into those and probably finished them a good many times over ^_^

CorranHorn: Legend of Zelda I played before I got a NES, never bought it but I did borrow Zelda on SNES and that is the reason I still want to play all those Zelda games. I also borrowed Super Metroid and imho it´s one of the best console games I ever played.

Donkey Kong Country made me a Rare fan and it´s so sad to see that Rare today isn´t the Rare I liked as a kid.
Super Metroid IS one of the best console games. In my list it's on No. 3 actually, with Terranigma and Ocarina of Time being 1&2 respectively.
there I got a copy of thunder sale blocker "thunderscape" to help move it along even though i did not want the game :(

jamyskis: One of the biggest problems with this sale was GOG's assertion that the only way to make these deep discounts possible was to limit the number of licences sold. This would not be problematic in its own right, were it not for the fact many of the games that were heavily discounted had already been in bundles and have already been subject to similar reductions on Steam and other platforms in the past.

It's quite possible that this marks the start of a new trend in digital distribution - it's been common knowledge for a while now that publishers and developers have been rather unhappy with the deep discount mentality in PC gaming - but the implication that the only way to get these publishers to agree to these discounts was to limit quantities is very misleading when it has been demonstrated that most of these games have seen similar discounts before with unlimited quantities.

In my opinion, this PR stunt was really less about the ability to negotiate discounts with publishers than it was to demonstrate to publishers that limiting supply can create the same effect as daily deals without the effect of sucking the potential future market dry. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this model gradually became the norm on other platforms.
I think the sale too has been a great marketing stunt. I think its gotten alot of good coverage to bring more people to GOG. Heck it even got my uber Steam friend I know in IRL to check out GOG again.

Cardian: I, too, had an Amiga 500 (later even with the 1MB memory expansion, woot!) and I was guilty in bringing it down... I had 2 original copies of games, all the others of my endless collection were pirated. That's why I don't pirate anymore. I felt guilty when the Amiga went down...
This has nothing to do with piracy that the Amiga went down. It was frikkin Commodore itself which tried to get into PC maket in the US and failed so hard that the whole company went down :(
Anyone know if Space Colony HD is still comming up? or that it is all ready over.
The most fun part of this sale is this tread.. Without the flash sales this tread wouldn't exploded, it felt like a chatroom.

think its still to come up, but deals are now moving at a snails pace
Well, at least we have a Weekend promo to help distract a bit from Thuderscape stalling...

skeletonbow: I dunno, the market for Thunderpants is shrinking pretty small right about now. ;oP
It is indeed, but if you compare the first run to this point, it confirms precisely the point I'm making. They sold 400 copies in around 5 minutes yesterday. Now that the market has dried up, how many are they selling now?

When demand is believed to outstrip supply, people will jump all over it and engage in panic buying.

Russonc: I thought this promo was fun (in a sick, addicting way). Unsure why some people are mad at a chance to get games cheaper than normal, but anyone was able to buy any GOG game at full price for last couple of days as well, so I'm not sure why the complaints. Other than wasting a good bit of my work production the last 2 days..... Good luck all on the 3rd round!

getohesch: It are not the good games for the cheap but the one nobody wants people are getting mad about. It's like sale in the supermarket and before you can buy your cans of milk for cheap you have to buy 200 pounds of poo.
At least in this case, someone else is buying the "poo" for you.... :) and I guess someone's "poo" is another persons treasure.....

There is a "normal" weekend sale for those that are tired of this one!
Woo! Still get a Weekend Deal!

yeah I too miss the old Rare. Donkey Kong was simply amazing when it was released on the SNES

Khaleesia87: I can stop the video whenever I want so no big deal =D I am loving this season so much but I paused a few times already to record my baby budgie speaking his first words....I don't know why but he decided to become talkative during this promo..

a coincidence? don't think so.
You say that now, but Breaking Bad gets better and more intense with every episode in the final season ;)
This thunderscrap had been there since forever~~~~
