Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

mantarrochen: Dont think about sleeping. It is a trap!

Devoidless: Yeah, a shoggoth will likely devour me in the dark.
Sleep is for weaklings. Also, you are likely to be eaten by a grue.
avatar
CorranHorn: Thx, damn that Eador must have taken quite some time, 7 hours later and only 6 games after I turned off the computer.
avatar
Xabyer_B: Eardor, Sniper Elite and the book of unwritten were very slow. This third round is going quiet.
Seems like they really are putting out the slower ones first. It's almost sad that it would have been so funny ending with the feared 200 copies of Jack Keane 2.
avatar
WillOfD: Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for "Jack Keane 2" to sold out on its third run?
I suspect that someone at gog "purchased" all the copies...

yeah I probably should have went back to sleep for another 3 hours when Thunderscape was on and wouldn't have missed anything....

Grue, shaggoth. It's all unfathomable creatures to me.
Sleep is for the weak!

Must be patient.

animalmother2105: Lol, me too. Bought in a heartbeat a did not touch it yet. But after going through Theme Hospital and Betrayal at Krondor, I am starting BG1.

skeletonbow: Two more games I own too and haven't played yet. I played both in the 90s and probably have floppies of them kicking around still but never finished either. :) I'm trying to actually finish games now before moving on to another. :)
Floppies wow must of been so many.... had to check and yeah 7 3½" floppy disks
So what free game did I miss this time?
GOG have putting to many copies up for the last round, should of been a lot less numbers could be here for days

mantarrochen: I am of the belief that regardless your machine of choice just have fun with your game. I myself am a PC person. But only because Im at odds with the console controller. I got introduced to it in a competitive environment (christmas holiday vacation with friends :D) playing Fifa something - soccer. You might imagine this is very confusing to the newb. Where are my men? Why did I pass the ball to this guy and not the other? Where IS the ball?! And so on. I remember that the muscle below your thumbs hurt very badly and enthusiastical me just pressing D (or was it circle?) all through the match.

Briareos262: I believe in that belief too. Thats why I still cherish my PC games of the great incline of the 90s and still enjoy some newer indies ones of today. And the nice break in console games are good too, its a bit different variety in itself. Like for instance I love the God of War series and the GTA series is fun too...along with some really awesome JRPGs.
Got a PS2 for all the exclusives, I´m a sucker for Sonys own titles like Ratchet and Clank, Sly, God of War. Got a 360 for the same reason but Microsoft lost me when they started with the whole Kinect thing. That and the fact that they chose to show the new console as a media hub was all I needed to see that they are not as game focused as Sony and Nintendo (I´m fairly certain this has been their agenda all the time, to "lure" people in with games and then focus on the TV thing once the mainstream has gotten the console).
Strange. Lucius is not the greatest game ever but you'd think that someone would get it for free. Hm.

mantarrochen: Terraria is another example (of sorts). Great game. And the NPCs care for themselves (in that they simply respawn after a while if anything should happen to them).
avatar
einexile: The comparison to Terraria is frowned upon, and the addition probably obvious, but let's not forget Minecraft. For many it's an outlet for creative impulses or an excuse to beat up on people in need of that outlet, but it's also a kick ass survival game if you let it be one. The underground areas are big, the NPCs are a rare discovery and must be defended or they will die, but when they do die the only consequence is you feel bad about it. You get on with exploring and surviving.

As for Don't Starve, it was wonderful early on, but they buffed the whole starvation part so much that you don't have as much of a choice of how to play. For example I used to just hunt rabbits and chill in that game, but the rabbits got much smarter and now you literally have to eat 14 of them each day to stay alive. The game forces you to progress. Not just in this way but a variety of ways, not least among them a difficult winter which hits after a few weeks.

All of this is justified by the fact that you can turn it off manually in the settings at the point of world creation, a bit like all the options in Civilization IV. But I feel like I'm not playing the game when I do that. The challenge is gone, because I could just shut everything dangerous off if I wanted. The choice is pretty much between pure sandbox and aggravating grind.

Which is not to say it isn't a fun and high quality game. It's just not the wonderful and priceless game it started as.
I see. Thanks for your impressions on those.

Ghost In The Shell is awesome, I´m a big fan of Blade Runner (regard that one as on of the best movies ever made=)).

But on the flipside Sony then borked the PS4 by removing all media streaming except through their own service which you have to pay for :/ I have a lot of music so media streaming is also an important feature to me.
