Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Alien8n: I got my PS3 when the 80Gb version came out, it still sounded like a jet engine taking off :/

Got the Xbox 360 off a mate and so far had zero issues with it, just wish they'd done the PS3 thing and aloud you to swap the hard drives out, the PS3 now has a 500Gb drive in it :)

Briareos262: Nice yeah I retired my 60 or was it 80 gig PS3 model too. Sucker was heavy and really did sound like a jet engine. It still works too however I had to upgrade with the it only having 80 gigs wasn't enough =/ So i've had the ps3 slim for like about a year now works great too. The 360 I got lucky, I think I had picked up the 2nd version. I never got a lemon with 2nd fat model of the 360 like I know many others have with system with those early launches back in the day.
I never had a problem with my fat PS3 but my 360 RRoD'd on me and when it was "replaced" I got the infamous E47...

animalmother2105: Lol, me too. Bought in a heartbeat a did not touch it yet. But after going through Theme Hospital and Betrayal at Krondor, I am starting BG1.
Your never getting to bg1 lol

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for "Jack Keane 2" to sold out on its third run?

Only reason I still have the PS3 is for 3d bluray nowadays

Devoidless: Say...

Don't suppose anyone would be up for buying me a copy of NwN2, Planescape, Evoland, System Shock 2 and Jade Empire? To be reimbursed with a trade of any game of roughly equal value?

No? But...but...sleep is nice.
you could probably still get 3-4 hours of sleep now and not miss anything. This one is probably gonna take awhile >_>

Crosmando: Shame that more people don't want Thunderscape, the game is really underrated and if you get past the pixellated 3D graphics it's a really solid dungeon crawler, the character/party creation system is basically something pulled straight out of a P&P RPG, really great with so many skills/races and the like to make different types of characters.
avatar
einexile: Assuming you mean that and aren't just trying to speed things up...

Is there any kind of open world action going on in this game? Can you dip in and out of dungeons M&M style, visit cities at your leisure, and so on? What about NPCs? Are there friendly ones worth knowing, and do they get around much?

I want to want this game, but I just can't.
Let's see.. from playing a bit a long time ago, and paging through the manual:

Open world yes, I remember you roaming the countryside for a while before delving in a dungeon. Cities I'm not sure about, but there are shops and some npcs, some of them might also join you. As I recall it is primarily a dungeon crawl, but I did get it anyway, because it's been missing from my collection for a while now :)

Dont think about sleeping. It is a trap!

Shendue: The only game i've played with a similar concept (survival) is Lost in Blue for Nintendo DS, which was pretty interesting to me because i liked the concept, but the fact you have to carry around a stupid biatch that does nothing more useful that dying of starvation every five minutes kills the fun in it. Since it seems it's just you and no dead weight in this and Miasmata i may give them a chance.
I freaking hate those games, or game sections, in which you have to protect totally inept and defenseless NPCs. It's a tremendously boring and annoying idea to me.

mantarrochen: Terraria is another example (of sorts). Great game. And the NPCs care for themselves (in that they simply respawn after a while if anything should happen to them).
The comparison to Terraria is frowned upon, and the addition probably obvious, but let's not forget Minecraft. For many it's an outlet for creative impulses or an excuse to beat up on people in need of that outlet, but it's also a kick ass survival game if you let it be one. The underground areas are big, the NPCs are a rare discovery and must be defended or they will die, but when they do die the only consequence is you feel bad about it. You get on with exploring and surviving.

As for Don't Starve, it was wonderful early on, but they buffed the whole starvation part so much that you don't have as much of a choice of how to play. For example I used to just hunt rabbits and chill in that game, but the rabbits got much smarter and now you literally have to eat 14 of them each day to stay alive. The game forces you to progress. Not just in this way but a variety of ways, not least among them a difficult winter which hits after a few weeks.

All of this is justified by the fact that you can turn it off manually in the settings at the point of world creation, a bit like all the options in Civilization IV. But I feel like I'm not playing the game when I do that. The challenge is gone, because I could just shut everything dangerous off if I wanted. The choice is pretty much between pure sandbox and aggravating grind.

Which is not to say it isn't a fun and high quality game. It's just not the wonderful and priceless game it started as.

Around 20 minutes. 25 copies.

25 copies, took only minutes, about 10-15 I think.

mantarrochen: I am of the belief that regardless your machine of choice just have fun with your game. I myself am a PC person. But only because Im at odds with the console controller. I got introduced to it in a competitive environment (christmas holiday vacation with friends :D) playing Fifa something - soccer. You might imagine this is very confusing to the newb. Where are my men? Why did I pass the ball to this guy and not the other? Where IS the ball?! And so on. I remember that the muscle below your thumbs hurt very badly and enthusiastical me just pressing D (or was it circle?) all through the match.
I believe in that belief too. Thats why I still cherish my PC games of the great incline of the 90s and still enjoy some newer indies ones of today. And the nice break in console games are good too, its a bit different variety in itself. Like for instance I love the God of War series and the GTA series is fun too...along with some really awesome JRPGs.

Two more games I own too and haven't played yet. I played both in the 90s and probably have floppies of them kicking around still but never finished either. :) I'm trying to actually finish games now before moving on to another. :)

Eardor, Sniper Elite and the book of unwritten were very slow. This third round is going quiet.
