Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

nijuu: How are the other two expansions?
You'll get mixed reviews for Storm of Zehir. Some hated it, but I personally really enjoyed it because I really like being able to build my own party and I liked the overland map mechanic. The story was average, but there are some fun aspects to it.

Mysteries of Westgate I bought for full price and I thought it was completely worth it. Well written and designed and a pretty good story, I thought.

mantarrochen: I own NWM Complete here on GOG already so as far as this franchise is concerned Im only waiting for NWN 2. Of course I havent touched NWN yet (backlog !) so I only have faint recollection of my first and only playthrough of it. Hm, somehow I remember thinking that after I beat the game I thought that the game was a bit ... generic? Am I recalling correctly?
avatar
Coelocanth: Nope, you're remebering correctly. The original campaign for NWN is pretty average at best. But the strength of the game isn't in the official campaign. It's in the on-line play and the literally hundreds (if not thousands) of quality community-made modules.

avatar
mantarrochen: About NWN2 I remember that I once played the addon Mask of the Be..trayer(?) and stopped right when you get that extra "ghost energy" bar or something. Maybe I was tired but I felt a little overwhelmed at the moment and never got back to it.
avatar
Coelocanth: Yeah, the spirit-eater mechanic. You'll either hate it or... put up with it. But there are mods to get rid of it if you hate it.
Sounds like on my rerun of NWN 1 I'll give a community-made module a try. Thanks for the headsup, guys. :D

Spirit-eater mechanic, right, thats what it was."Hate it or... put up with it" Hehe. Mask of the Betrayer was good I have to give it it another chance again.

At this rate, yeah.

Is Unwritten Tales worth picking up, or is it a pass?

This really depends on what type of character you're playing. Unfortunately, the way Obsidian designed the mechanic, it's absolutely no issue if your character is a good-aligned (and generally lawful type) character. If you're evil, it can be an extreme pain in the ass.
For those looking for whats come up so far in this final run/round

nijuu: Do you need to complain in here?. As far as i know Groupees fixed the direct download for drm free games mostly and its the music thats a bit of an issue atm
Actually I was replying to an earlier post that mentioned it to share my experience with them as well and corroborate. It wasn't really a complaint per se, just information and opinion. I've checked my account there and they have not fixed the problem yet. I'm not upset about it as it is just a few bucks of wasted cash, but I know that if someone else has a bad experience with a business and felt ripped off and decided too inform others here it would be a community service. We're all in this together and watch each other's backs.

Likewise if Groupees ever fixes the situation, I'll be glad to let people know they came clean in the end. I think it's important for people to be aware of problems like this however to make an informed choice. I hope they sort things out and people have good experiences there in the future however. Sometimes businesses can make inadvertent foulups as they learn the ropes so to speak and this may very well be one such time. :)
Hey guys, anyone have a list of games that passed in the last 8 hours? Got some sleep after Rise of the Tribunal went all Keane.

I've not yet played it, but picked it up on sale some time ago. I thought it sounded worth a peek and if I didn't already own it I'd grab it for 5 bucks (but that's generally what I'm willing to pay for a game on a whim).

I own it. Need I say more? :D
Whelp, I gotta sleep now, since it's 12 AM over here.

Good night, everyone, and I think I'll miss the rest of the stuff.

Novotnus: Hey, this game is good!
Stop trolling Nordic, folks! Buy this! :)
avatar
mkess: Nordic, The company that bought the smoking ruins of the bankrupt company NoGood. (JoWood)

No chance in hell I buy something from them.
JoWood brought out Gothic, which spares it from the NoGood rhyme. They may have released bug-ridden software, been unresponsive to user complaint, fiscally irresponsible, and unable to learn from past mistakes, but every so often they turned out gems.

It is a good point and click game, it is up there with Monkey Island.

It has an excellent script, a wonderful story, humor, strong characters, nice graphics and smart puzzles. It is a must buy if you love point and click games.
