Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Sweet, it's still going on. Missed most of the sales in the last two days.

xenxander: You missed the joke. It's 'another 9' that was horrible.

jackster79: I never played any of the Ultimas, including 9, so the first time I was exposed to that question was via Spoony's review. Man, that was one epic review, and I will never forget it. It will forever be ingrained in my conscious whenever I think of Ultima now. :-D
Good old Noah.

RayRay13000: So...what are you all doing while waiting for that specific game come up? I'm just watching LPs.
avatar
CarrionCrow: Netflix, Funimation, podcasts, .pdfs, anything to keep from falling asleep. lol.
Try coffee? lol

I've got my daughter watching tv in the background, so I have half an ear to that. And I've also got about 40 tabs open between my two screens, so I'm checking out various other things as well.

mkess: Ultima 9 was the downfall of the series.
Well "The Black Gate" had little cannon with the rest and was sorta the 'beginning of the end' if you look at it from that sort of standpoint.. though the game 'itself' wasn't wretched. I still didn't like "the black gate" as much as 6.
Only 17 left! Everyone should own this classic! EVERYONE!

You're in luck! We've passed through the Keane and Eador doldrums and are clear for smooth sailing all the way home. Only about hmm 10 titles into the final round or so. BG2 has come and gone, so sorry if you were waiting for that one.

yyahoo: I always thought 4 & 5 were better than 6. Also, I don't recall 3 being PC speaker at all. It's essentially the same engine as 4 & 5.
avatar
PincushionMan: Absolutely right - I totally forgot. There was a big gap in between 2 and 3 because they revamped the engine in 3. I do remember one cool bit about 4 and 5, if you installed them together they would become the World of Xeen (or some such). I don't recall exactly how it worked, but changing games was as easy as 'Insert Light Side Disc'. Or something like that. It's been a decade or two.
If you install them together, you can travel between the worlds through portals scattered about each land. IIRC, GOG's version installs it automatically together, and I believe it's now the "talkie" Cd version too. Excellent game, World of Xeen, almost "open world", as it will let you roam around the entire map without restriction (with the exception of monsters you can encounter that you can't beat until you level up more; I always loved running out into the middle of nowhere just to see what different, unique monsters I could find that would massacre my entire party in 2 turns).
Did any of the NWN games go up for the final round yet? 'cause I fell asleep watching Eador sell out faster than light.

20 Oz Red Bull and a 5-Hr Energy. Think I'm set.
Please give us more infinity engine goodness gog!
Now I remember I actually registered at GOG just for M&M 6-pack

PandaLiang: Ubisoft is making a X. It is in early access on Steam I think. It is in the new MM setting of course.
avatar
xenxander: Oh then it's DRM only and will be buggy as hell, half-assed, rushed, and not worth our time.
Makes me one sad panda then. I will of course reserve final judgement for the actual release, but since you said the dreaded "U" word that makes me want to immediately remove any memory of ever hearing about it for fear of being set up for major disappointment...

Ultima 7 was the most sinister and creepy of them all, but yes it wasn't quite the same vein as the previous ones.

I was aghast and horrified by 8 and the bucket head avatar.
