Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Devoidless: 73 copies left. I'm going out for a smoke, and grabbing some coffee while I'm at it. Then stopping at...somewhere...to grab a snack.

There better be only a couple copies of Eador when I return.
I think it will still be going for another 30 min, so yeah you might be good to take a break.
avatar
Bovrillor: You're not wrong in that regard, I'm sure.

A little micro-management would go a long way though. The GoG staff must be able to see Eador isn't selling. Why not rotate it out halfway and allow some more of those impulse purchases to happen?

If it wasn't for the forum banter and feeling of 'I've come this far, I must succeed', I would have given up hours ago.

Devoidless: I really would of liked to see two sales going on at once. Give us two options from the same pool and run them until the pool is empty. That way, the Keane situation would of been avoided pretty well. However! We very well could of ended up with Keane and Eador chilling next to one another.
I thought about the 2-option thing around midnight (it's now 3am)... it would've made this sale so much better. People with schedules or in certain time zones simply have no chance of getting specific titles they want.
avatar
groze: Eador, though, has been selling pretty decently the rounds before.
No, it really hasn't. It was selling poorly - only now, it's a catastrophy.
avatar
Captain_Picard: I think I am going to play some FTL in windowed mode to pass the time. Any suggestion for crew names?

edit: I also want to know if Eador is worth buying, I am a bit torn on it.
avatar
gbaz69: I used FIREFLY names on my play throughs ;D
Also went with comedy names too... some reason PACO makes me chuckle.
Lister, Rimmer, and Kryten. Red Dwarf is always the way to go.

Bovrillor: snip

Stoltverd: Actually it's a pretty cleaver model!
Temporary sales make you stay looking, getting exposed at many games and deals with huge discounts, making you buy other games you didn't even thought to buy. It makes every person compulsive buyer wake up "Omg such a huge discount! maybe it wont come again! I should buy it now when i have a chance!". And making it such a short timed sale (lol ok only sometimes) it makes sure you don't think too much about it and discover you really don't want it but only being compulsive. just think about the money they have made today and the money they make usually. This model is not absurd IT'S GENIUS!
Yeah, it's a model that's good for the them, but not for us. Like always-online DRM or shoehorned DLCs.

I really do feel happy for the people that scored some cheap games, but that's heavily overshadowed by poor souls like Bovrillor to get their desired game, having pain and lack of sleep, as well as questioning their own sanity. This "Insomnia" sale really lives up to its name.

I want to say this is better than a normal sale, I really do. But all the frustration that went into this is too much. Just like how I was almost sure I'd get to play some Nexus for free today, but my hopes were immediately shot down, as always. This worked as a marketing tactic, but this is good for some, bad for others. Whereas I'd say a good old normal sale is good for everyone, but I guess GOG just had to try something new, even if it was at the expense of their customers' joy and well-being.

fulano5321: Yes, but with this setup they force people to buy copies of a game they don't want so they can see the next deal... lots more money for them... and it's hard to complain about a company putting a product you don't really want on sale. :)
I seriously cannot comprehend why would ANYONE in his right mind actually buy things he doesn't like only to get the sales going. I won't believe people actually did that xP

You can feel free to bitch and moan when the item they put on sale (which you don't really want) is the only thing on the block until stocks runs out.

It won't change a bloody thing. But it will make you feel better in the end.

bew1977: I've been discovering new ways to kill princesses in Long Live the Queen. My GotY, folks.

(I don't get out much)
avatar
npalsensei: I wish this was on decent discount, I'd have bought it >_>
I had a lot of steam card money built up so I got it for about half price. Get past the kawaii princess crap and it's really fun to figure out all the story paths.
avatar
gbaz69: From what I gather by the reviews: many many bugs and lack of polish on the game (ie: its not finished product, but seems like an alpha version)

That alone is enough for me to AVOID... even when I want every game on gog.com, this one is in my top 10 BUY LAST games.
avatar
Nettle: This was true when they released it. It is fully working game now. And pretty good at that. Lot of people are arguing that the remade graphics is getting in the way of gameplay... which is of course kinda true. I like it though.
Oh, I didn't know they updated their game since those reviews, I'll look for reviews last month, etc.
Looks like I was bit optimistic in my prevision for Eador. In any case I'm going to bed, there is only one game left on my shopping list and I don't really mind if I miss it, there will be other sales.
Ah well, time to sleep. Have fun, all you Eador fans xP

JK2 sold so badly the Devs came in and said it was so people could sleep. People bought it to move

At this rate you should have time to grow the tobacco, dry it and make your own ciggs before anything happens.

But we're down to 59! There could be a surge of sales any second and the game you want could be next

I bet GOG has implemented some sort of slow countdown - removes an item from the total every 3-5 minutes on average, just to keep the thing going.
