Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

ArthurYanthar: I think it's a good idea in a business standpoint because it's COMPLETELY based on impulse. Looking at the percentages, we will probably get the same prices in the winter sale. But because there's a limit based on purchase amounts, many of them only lasting a few minutes, it's causing people to go like "OMG I MUST BUY IT NOW!" even if it's something that they wouldn't have purchased in a "normal" sale.

Bovrillor: You're not wrong in that regard, I'm sure.

A little micro-management would go a long way though. The GoG staff must be able to see Eador isn't selling. Why not rotate it out halfway and allow some more of those impulse purchases to happen?

If it wasn't for the forum banter and feeling of 'I've come this far, I must succeed', I would have given up hours ago.
I really would of liked to see two sales going on at once. Give us two options from the same pool and run them until the pool is empty. That way, the Keane situation would of been avoided pretty well. However! We very well could of ended up with Keane and Eador chilling next to one another.

Captain_Picard: I think I am going to play some FTL in windowed mode to pass the time. Any suggestion for crew names?

edit: I also want to know if Eador is worth buying, I am a bit torn on it.
I used FIREFLY names on my play throughs ;D
Also went with comedy names too... some reason PACO makes me chuckle.

Riker, LaForge, and Data, of course. ;)

bew1977: So on par with the second JK2 sale?
avatar
Alien8n: Not quite that painful, just a small piece of glass and it when in longwise and not straight in...
You're lucky. I got a piece that was close to 1/2 inch long and super skinny that went straight in.

rtcvb32: In theory if you never downloaded the game you could gift it to someone, but I don't think their system is set up that way.
avatar
gbaz69: I wish this was how it IS/WAS, and a POP-UP when we click on download links stating something like"if you download this, you can no longer trade it".
:D but many language barriers is why that won't happen.
More likely next to the download link there'd be a 'convert to gift code' option if you never downloaded it. It's not like you wouldn't already know what the code was since it's listed next to your game.
Why...oh why did they offer 450 copies of Eador:MotBW if nobody wants this game. Eador Genisis is so much better except for the graphics....i waited and waited and waited for another game to show up. So really guys buy this very good game now and buy at least 3 gift-codes. You can decide wether to gift it to people you like or to people you don't like. But BUY IT NOW! I wait another few minutes, then i go to bed.

You must name the captain Jack Keane! lol!

Or two Keane at the same time probably haha
This sale need a 1 hour timer!

npalsensei: Jack took 5 hours, how long is Eador up?
From what I gather by the reviews: many many bugs and lack of polish on the game (ie: its not finished product, but seems like an alpha version)

That alone is enough for me to AVOID... even when I want every game on gog.com, this one is in my top 10 BUY LAST games.

Awesome.

With that crew what could possibly go wrong?

Better don't tell me what you are talking about ;-)

Bovrillor: I'm not going to - if you read my previous posts you'd see I have the appropriate respect for developers - especially improverished ones.

I was really just making a point about how utterly f*cking rage-inducing this god-awful sale is. It's driving a rational person to genuinely question their own integrity and sanity. I'd have bought the damn thing hours ago if they just stuck all the content up at once or something. The format is just ABSURD.

Trust me, you'd feel the same way if you'd been sat at your computer for 8.5 hours waiting for a product you assumed would be available within a sane timeframe.

Although I had work with 2 hours overtime today, and I found out about the sale during the Jack Keane 2 part, so I only purchased one game and I don't feel bad at all.
I too noticed the great buying impulse of this gog sale. However after deducing the average price of games during the holiday sales, this one I think is slightly better with larger selection 75-80% percent off. The holiday sales have that too though in different selection variety.

I am happy with both type sales actually. Funny I didn't really like this sale at the very beginning, probably due to not knowing there would be 3 cycles to give almost everyone a chance to get what they want ^_^

So thank you GOG for this awesome sale!

RighteousNixon: OK, I think I understand why they went without a time limit. Eventually, people start buying copies just to get to the next game. The end result is that GOG sells a bunch of copies for a game they wouldn't have sold otherwise. Pretty ingenious actually. I know I am ready to buy a copy of Eador just to do my part in getting rid of it.

groze: I agree with what you said to an extent. The issue, here, is that Eador has been selling good every other time it was put on sale. Jack Keane 2 sold miserably, so they only put 30 copies of it in round 3. Eador, though, has been selling pretty decently the rounds before.

What they probably didn't take into account (not even 'them', as I guess they use some software to sort this out) was that all of the people who wanted -- or didn't mind trying -- Eador already got it during previous rounds. Round 3 will be slow as hell for most games, unless they drastically reduce the copies.

From what I gather, people only seem remotely interested in Rogue Legacy, the D&D games (BG and BG2, Planescape: Torment, NWN 2 and kind of Icewind Dale), the Thieves, System Shock 2 and, to some degree, Nexus, Startopia and a few others. These are not a huge chunk out of the games on sale so, obviously, round 3 is going to go painfully slow. I know I'm not buying games I don't want or games I already own just to move sales along, and pretty much all the titles that interest me are already on my GOG collection, so...
Surely this is all based on the forum posters info? Just dare to imagine the casual visitors to the site who are currently all seeing Eador and never returning...
I've been discovering new ways to kill princesses in Long Live the Queen. My GotY, folks.
