Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

bew1977: So on par with the second JK2 sale?

npalsensei: Jack took 5 hours, how long is Eador up?
Going on a little over 2 hours.
I think I am going to play some FTL in windowed mode to pass the time. Any suggestion for crew names?

edit: I also want to know if Eador is worth buying, I am a bit torn on it.

Bovrillor: I'm not going to - if you read my previous posts you'd see I have the appropriate respect for developers - especially improverished ones.

I was really just making a point about how utterly f*cking rage-inducing this god-awful sale is. It's driving a rational person to genuinely question their own integrity and sanity. I'd have bought the damn thing hours ago if they just stuck all the content up at once or something. The format is just ABSURD.

Trust me, you'd feel the same way if you'd been sat at your computer for 8.5 hours waiting for a product you assumed would be available within a sane timeframe.

ArthurYanthar: I think it's a good idea in a business standpoint because it's COMPLETELY based on impulse. Looking at the percentages, we will probably get the same prices in the winter sale. But because there's a limit based on purchase amounts, many of them only lasting a few minutes, it's causing people to go like "OMG I MUST BUY IT NOW!" even if it's something that they wouldn't have purchased in a "normal" sale.
You're not wrong in that regard, I'm sure.

A little micro-management would go a long way though. The GoG staff must be able to see Eador isn't selling. Why not rotate it out halfway and allow some more of those impulse purchases to happen?

If it wasn't for the forum banter and feeling of 'I've come this far, I must succeed', I would have given up hours ago.

It's been 2 so far

RighteousNixon: OK, I think I understand why they went without a time limit. Eventually, people start buying copies just to get to the next game. The end result is that GOG sells a bunch of copies for a game they wouldn't have sold otherwise. Pretty ingenious actually. I know I am ready to buy a copy of Eador just to do my part in getting rid of it.
I agree with what you said to an extent. The issue, here, is that Eador has been selling good every other time it was put on sale. Jack Keane 2 sold miserably, so they only put 30 copies of it in round 3. Eador, though, has been selling pretty decently the rounds before.

What they probably didn't take into account (not even 'them', as I guess they use some software to sort this out) was that all of the people who wanted -- or didn't mind trying -- Eador already got it during previous rounds. Round 3 will be slow as hell for most games, unless they drastically reduce the copies.

From what I gather, people only seem remotely interested in Rogue Legacy, the D&D games (BG and BG2, Planescape: Torment, NWN 2 and kind of Icewind Dale), the Thieves, System Shock 2 and, to some degree, Nexus, Startopia and a few others. These are not a huge chunk out of the games on sale so, obviously, round 3 is going to go painfully slow. I know I'm not buying games I don't want or games I already own just to move sales along, and pretty much all the titles that interest me are already on my GOG collection, so...
I got the first Tomb Raider set, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, and Thief Gold. I would say that I did pretty good during this sale. It was almost impossible to get any of the free games once they came up though.

Alien8n: Well I just found something more painful than waiting for Eador to finish. While making my coffee I just pulled a shard of glass out of my foot that I must have missed when a glass broke in the kitchen the other day :/

Not quite that painful, just a small piece of glass and it when in longwise and not straight in...

How about Jack Keane?

If someone have giftable copies please contact me! I have steam keys to trade :( or if you have a kind and generous soul... I wouldn't mind :D
Last christmas they had a "Dungeons & Dragons Deal" with a bunch of these games at 75% off -- I picked up the following at that time:

Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga $2.49
Baldur's Gate 2 Complete $2.49

Kaitu: Going on a little over 2 hours.
I wouldn't have expected Eador to challenged Jack but it's the final round, so yeah, there could be issues like this. Still, Jack did it on the second round, so yeah, unless Eador does double time, Jack was still more epic.

Also, what's so bad about Eador btw? The bugs?
My one-hour trip was undertaken with time to spare for a decent meal. Thanks Eador!
