Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

howardc007: We need a new game - Jack Keane 3: Vacationing in Eador!
Jack Keane and the Triad rising in Eador? I think that covers all the duds.
Close on 18 hours I've been sat in this chair, reading this thread and watching the sales go by while trying to get my hands on NWN2. Not exactly how I'd planned to spend my day off if I'm perfectly honest.

RighteousNixon: OK, I think I understand why they went without a time limit. Eventually, people start buying copies just to get to the next game. The end result is that GOG sells a bunch of copies for a game they wouldn't have sold otherwise. Pretty ingenious actually. I know I am ready to buy a copy of Eador just to do my part in getting rid of it.
This is like gambling almost, in that you aren't considering how much money to limit yourself at. At a Casino you go and when you lose $200, you decide 'I'll just pull out $200 more' and not think in the time 'how much is my limit? I can just keep going back for more'.

I recommend you put say $200 in paypal for spending on games, once that's gone you'll just have to wait until it's time to refill the account.

maybe?

Stoltverd: This sale is awesome. Makes me feel like the steam holiday sale or summer sale! So exited to see what's next, to buy.

Bovrillor: I'm not going to - if you read my previous posts you'd see I have the appropriate respect for developers - especially improverished ones.

I was really just making a point about how utterly f*cking rage-inducing this god-awful sale is. It's driving a rational person to genuinely question their own integrity and sanity. I'd have bought the damn thing hours ago if they just stuck all the content up at once or something. The format is just ABSURD.

Trust me, you'd feel the same way if you'd been sat at your computer for 8.5 hours waiting for a product you assumed would be available within a sane timeframe.
I think it's a good idea in a business standpoint because it's COMPLETELY based on impulse. Looking at the percentages, we will probably get the same prices in the winter sale. But because there's a limit based on purchase amounts, many of them only lasting a few minutes, it's causing people to go like "OMG I MUST BUY IT NOW!" even if it's something that they wouldn't have purchased in a "normal" sale.

Although I had work with 2 hours overtime today, and I found out about the sale during the Jack Keane 2 part, so I only purchased one game and I don't feel bad at all.

Are you insane? Go do SOMETHING. Wasting your day off on GOG Insomnia sales? Even Jack wouldn't want that.
Well I just found something more painful than waiting for Eador to finish. While making my coffee I just pulled a shard of glass out of my foot that I must have missed when a glass broke in the kitchen the other day :/

Actually it's a pretty cleaver model!
Temporary sales make you stay looking, getting exposed at many games and deals with huge discounts, making you buy other games you didn't even thought to buy. It makes every person compulsive buyer wake up "Omg such a huge discount! maybe it wont come again! I should buy it now when i have a chance!". And making it such a short timed sale (lol ok only sometimes) it makes sure you don't think too much about it and discover you really don't want it but only being compulsive. just think about the money they have made today and the money they make usually. This model is not absurd IT'S GENIUS!

So on par with the second JK2 sale?

Achievement unlocked.

As for me, it's time to go nighty-night.

gscotti: Thanks, That does make a lot of sense, actually.

rtcvb32: In theory if you never downloaded the game you could gift it to someone, but I don't think their system is set up that way.
I wish this was how it IS/WAS, and a POP-UP when we click on download links stating something like"if you download this, you can no longer trade it".
:D but many language barriers is why that won't happen.

Jack took 5 hours, how long is Eador up?
I started watching Dolemite on Youtube. Lets see if it finishes before Eador is gone.

Fezred: Deals so bad you won't be able to stay awake! Or convince anyone to damn well buy the sodding things.
Well now, that's not true. Just look at Jack Keane 2 and his rave reviews, and how relatively quickly those last 25 copies sold....
Jack Keane is the new Chuck Norris.
