Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

bew1977: The crystal shard series was his debut, it was originally supposed to be Wulfgar's series... Can see how well that went.
avatar
ZapMcRaygunn: It was a great series, though. Salvatore is an excellent fantasy writer, and a first-class nice guy as well.
Oh no doubt. Drizzt just gets really boring to read after a while.

AngryAlien: Random stuff: I am watching Lord of the Rings 3 right now and as always I can´t stop wondering... why the hell did they not use those giant eagles right from the start to fly into Mordor?
Because the eagles were delayed by this ... troll.

( I don't want to call his name, that could mean bad luck... but you all know whom I mean...)

Uzur9: Funny thats how I got my start into the Realms novels even though I had afew others along with some DragonLance (thanks to my uncle)
avatar
XEternalDreamX: I really hope that it is on this round of sales! I heard Drizzt makes a cameo in IWD 1 or 2.
Game-whise neither. IWD game year Drizzt wasnt born yet. He is in BG 1 that is placed sometime after he left Menzo.

*EDIT* He's also in Demon Stone + the PS2/GC BG: Dark Alliance.

i keep reloading the sale page just so i can make it look like ROTT is selling quickly ;)
can't those last 39 copies made free ?

mkess: Additionally they made a big mistake, by adding the auction house, and limiting the item drops. This kills the fun completely. And the replay value tends to Zero.
avatar
rtcvb32: Indeed. Since you can't get good drops everything just ends up 'sell for gold' and you need several million to get anything good in the auction house probably.

Limited inventory space always got to me too in D1 & D2, having mules to keep items you wanted to keep rather than being forced to throw them away. The Zy-El mod was awesome since you had unlimited stash size (PlugY), and a shared one so you could get items and give it to other characters in your computer without creating a multi-player game just to transfer stuff.
I'm betting we were on the same forums for many years:) I've played Eastern Sun mod for D2 for many years now. It was great to have the shared stash, etc, like you say. The great tournaments we had. All without ever having to visit Battlenet!

Many there were looking forward to D3 for years.....but I cautioned, as I never pre-order games and always wait for the dust to settle(and for the prices to drop!:)). Good thing, as I know I would not have liked it. I have heard many good things about the PS3 version though, and plan to get that to play multiplayer with my son. No auction house, etc.

What I've done is gone back and found a great mod to play for D1. It's called The Hell, for all of you who've been talking about Diablo....check it out, if you are now aware. Very, very, cool. Still being updated. Even tougher than the original D1, with many things added back in that Blizz left out, and new characters to play. Best of all, you can play multiplayer again on newer computers and can even run without a disk, with a multiclicker! I seriously recommend it for Diablo vets.

Edit: Also, so many cool features....you don't drop your items when you die in Multiplay.....and there are three difficulties for single player, as well!

ZapMcRaygunn: Actually, many of the Jack Keane jokes are all done in fun. Most people aren't really that upset.
You must admit Keanegate was pretty funny.
avatar
mortalkombat: WHAT IS Keanegate ????
Jack Keane 2 took nearly 5 hours to sell 100 copies last night. It was painful to watch.
Oh, come on people! Buy ROTT. This is your last chance:

Shadow Man vs Soul Reaver.... any opinions as to the better game if I was to just get one?

I love fantasy games and books. From what I have seen, Salvatore really delivers so I think his series of books will keep me busy for 2014.

Buenro-games: Sigh, I probably should just take a small break and be back when it's almost done. I guess I should go and paint the house.
Or just watch the paint dry. The excitement level would be about the same, or even a little higher :)

Where did you find this???

mkess: But in the beginning of the "Lord of Rings" he had no idea in what direction the book was going. And after experiencing the Word War, his writing slowly changed to a darker mood. Seeing the book as whole, Tom Bombadill did not fit anymore.
avatar
AngryAlien: This is the most useful and reasonable explanation for Tom Bombadil I´ve ever read!

And about Tolkiens experiences in the first world war... He stated that orks were directly influenced by germans. Tolkien said that when inventing orks he had pretty much german soldiers in mind, especially because of the german language which always sounded harsh and kind of staccato in his ears.

Yep, orks are pretty much the fault of us germans.
German language is harsh. It's excellent for swearing. :D
People complaining about how slowly Rise of The Triads is selling clearly didn't endure 5 hours of JackKeane2age. And those were *only* 100 copies.

Long live the '83 Brotherhood'.

Drizzt is kind of a super hero. He can get in trouble, but you can be almost certain he will overcome pretty much anything and if he doesn't, he will rise from the dead like Wolverine. It can make things a little bit less tense.
