Linux got removed on the PS3 after a while...
The almost full backward compatibility was only possible on the very first launch-PS3. Short time after (with the new revision) they was removing the PS2 chip which was able to play almost every PS2 game and most PSX games. Even 2 of the USB slots has been removed: In order to cut down on cost... as usual.

They tried to use a software-emulation which was not anymore allowing for full backward compatibility. With another revision even the PS2 emulation has been removed. In the end... the PS3 games was the only games which was always working and, with some luck some PSX games using a rather weak emulation.

So in general, Sony got a bad history of gimping their consoles over time, so it is no bad idea getting a launch-version.

In my mind, regarding quality, the first PS5 without revision had the best quality. Performance obviously is now better on the PS5 Pro, but at a price never seen before on that company and on every console the past 30 years.

Regarding cooling: The thing is, the first PS5 revision did not remove more heat per se, however... in term the fan is not working properly anymore (dust or other issues) it got more material in order to compensate for a lack of airflow. With the revisions, those basically can remove even more heat or at least the same amount, but.,. if the airflow is not working properly there is lesser material in order to compensate for a weak airflow. Ultimately, for Sony every new revision got cheaper at the production cost... in general with cutting down on material, removing the drive or improving the chip design.

Still, the price was not going down... and yes, Sony is now making a profit with every console sold.

The marketing strategy of the PS5 Pro is obvious: Sony was realizing that the big mass of hardcore Apple-fans is willing to pay almost any price on a phone they BARELY can afford. It means prestige to them and they are part of a bigger "social circle" which are using the same cool stuff. However, the customers are not willing to pay the most expensive piece available, because psychologically it means to them "i am not a Porsche-driver, i need to be one of those sheeps... at a midrange spot". It is not even good to buy the most expensive stuff if they are not part of a social community which is on the very top... for example somewhere in the management of a company. Those may need to use the most expensive phone because it is the status they are reflecting with.

However... Apple still want to overcharge as much as possible but without making anyone in the "midrange" feel that they can not afford it or that they pay to much. So they made the "flagship-models" the most pricey ever seen.... they go for as much as 1650 coins now and are not even providing more than 8 GB RAM (it is Apple, no need for it... according to the fans the OS needs half the RAM of any other OS). Anyway, this "flagship" is basically the important psychological-marker, so the sheeps got in mind "okay... if i pay 700 coins i basically am only midrange and this phone is almost a bargain". Now, indeed.... the "midrange" Apple phones are now being sold like never seen before... it is a huge marketing success and there is no other phone in such a high demand than a midrange- Apple phone. Yet, for what you get... this phone is actually expensive. There are other phones with way better specs... but according to the fans, the software is simply better than anything else. Ultimately, Apple is creating coins like mad and their fans apparently "hate money"... and enjoy to throw it around.

Now, what it got to do with Sony? Sony kinda is trying to copy this behavior. They had in mind, it seems, they should create some kind of flagship with a flagship price and then, the fans are gonna say "OK, this is to much for us... it is for Porsche-drivers only, kinda like the most expensive Iphone", lets stay on the midrange... the good small PS5 which is used by most of our friends of the same social standing. In this case... they are now even more happy buying actually overpriced "midrange" or even "entry level" because they now got the psychological marker telling them "be happy, it could become way more pricey if you are a Porsche-driver or comparable".

Not much different on GPUs. I mean, in order to continuously raise the "capital" of a company they need to increase the income year after year. But how is it done without increasing prices? Not gonna work, so prices need to be increased and because the coins are constantly "bloated up, which means the total amount is increasing every year" it is actually possible somehow. However, the customers need a new "psychological marker" which makes them believe "okay, i pay probably 700 coins but i am only midrange.... for the Porsche drivers they may buy a 2500 coin GPU... this is not for my social standing but 700 is well accepted and somehow i can still afford it.

I know, the chief of Nvidia was apparently cleaning toilets long time ago, so it was a lot of hard work actually becoming a wealthy chief. Yet, it does not mean that everyone can clean toilets and at some stage able to level up to a big-company-chief... this is actually a dream condition, if it works. Most of the people may clean toilets for so many years... they may grow old doing so and at some point realize "hey, i am still cleaning toilets and my bank account is still in a bad shape"... this is simply life... the real one.

rtcvb32: Why not? Remember Skyrim was huge and is only about 10Gb. It's only in the last couple years game sizes have exploded. Course pushing 4k resolutions on everything will do that.
I would take another good example because in my experience Skyrim, even the most up to date version, looks dated for the graphical demand many gamers may have, and in comparison to those 100+ GB games.

On top of that i do not play Skyrim witnout mods. I guess this is the hardest modded game of all time, but i could be wrong. Fact is, with 420 mods included, this game is at around 300 GB data size, which means it can even beat those games going up to 200 GB, or actually any other game i know of.

4k resolution textures are, as far as i can tell, in most cases not a requirement because simply overkill, especially at 1080P. However, this is not a general rule because it totally depends what the creator was able to "pack" into those textures. There are some pretty complicated textures which may visibly improve at 4k vs. 2k and absolutely vs. 1k. As a general rule i say, 2k is in most cases sufficient but 4k is simply never insufficient.

Of course, if the graphic lacks "art-count" it is not much use boosting it with "tech-count", as it will need a solid and tasty base first.

Of course it depends on the game and playstyle. In a game where exploration and "watching the game world" is a big focus good graphics surely will become noticed. However... on a fast paced shooter it is rather a luxury and it may simply remove way to much important FPS.

Skyrim is a atmospheric game, which can provide a challenge using some crazy mods but it has not been designed to be "fast paced", so watching the game world, exploring everything and looking at the details... is a important task, so, good graphics can improve the experience a lot.

Xeshra: You mean games that are PS5 only developed?
avatar
rtcvb32: Or isn't put on PS4... or PC.
Most PS5 games are "crossplatform", however i stopped playing on the PS4 long time ago... and almost any title developed on the PS4 at first i was never owning... so i was experiencing them on the PS5 in the best shape for the first time. I told me: PS4 and PS4 version is just not good enough... so i was waiting for the PS5 version to arrive, which was the "final version" in my eyes.

In general, all those PS5 games are native PS5 games with a PS5 BD, which either got improved on the PS5 (graphic, performance) or has been developed as a cross platform with PS4 always being inferior. Remember, the PS5 got over 2 times the power of the PS4 Pro and over 5 times the power of the PS4... so the difference is way bigger than what a PS5 Pro is now trying to "sell" with a way to big price. I never had a PS4 Pro (at the time it arrived, i already stopped playing PS4), so the upgrade i got was even more of a truck.

PS4 is no "alternate way to play" for me as the difference is just way to big. However, a PS5 can still hold up pretty well to an average gamer PC (i own a better PC but PS5 is still pretty solid hardware), especially if games are optimized well. Heck, the PS4 is now 11 year old, it is in theory over but i think every second PS gamer is still on the PS4, almost a miracle. I could in theory play every PS4 game with more peformance as well, but no interest because the age of playing PS4 games is over to me... for a way to long time already, As i said, i was waiting for those PS4 games to arrive on the PS5, reworked with improved graphic.

The only native PS4 game i got installed is a free to play online game, which was zero cost to me... however, it is only theoretically a PS4 game because it got improved graphics on the PS5.

Well i got those PS5 games currently installed:

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: So far PS5 only and PS5 only developed
Rise of the Ronin; So far PS5 only and PS5 only developed
Final Fantasy XVI: PC-cross-platform (it was PS5 exclusive for a long period, not possible for PS4 because PS5 only developed)
Demons Souls 2020: Remake from the PS3 title, PS5 only and PS5 only developed
The Last of Us part I: PC-cross-platform and PS5 only developed, PS4 not possible

Horizon Forbidden West Complete: PS4/PC cross-platform: However, the DLC is not available on PS4. DRM free on EGS
Dragons Dogma 2: PC cross-platform, not possible on PS4, simply to demanding
Forspoken: PC cross-platform PS5 only developed. PC version is not that great, rather weak port i heard

Granblue Fantasy Relink: PS4/PC cross-platform
Armored Core VI; PS4/PC cross-platform
Nioh Remastered Collection (1+2): PS4/PC cross-platform (well, not the remastered version, just the basic on PS4)
Wo Long Fallen Dynasty: PS4/PC cross-platform
The Last of Us part II Remastered: PS4 cross-platform, however this is a remaster with better graphics
Life is Strange: True Colors: PS4/PC cross-platform
Star Ocean The Divine Force: PS4/PC cross-splatform
Disgaea 7: PS4/PC cross-platform
Shin Megami Tensei V: PS4/PC cross-platform
Death Stranding DC: PC cross-platform. There is a PS4 title around but not the DC version which is improved a lot
Resident Evil Village; PS4/PC cross-platform
Persona 5 Royal PS4/PC cross-platform
Gran Turismo 7: PS4 cross-platform
Marvels Guardian of the Galaxy: PS4/PC cross-platform
Stranger of Paradise FF Origin: PS4/PC cross-platform
Alphadia Genesis: PS4/PC cross-platform (smallest game i own, only Limited Run PS5 BD too)
Octopath Traveler II: PS4/PC cross-platform
Ghost of Tsushima: PS4/PC cross-platform, available DRM free on EGS
Tales of Arise: PS4/PC cross-platform. On PS5/PC way better graphics
Disgaea 6 Complete: PS4/PC cross-platform
Elden Ring: PS4/PC cross-platform
Crymachina: PS4/PC cross-platform
Star Ocean the 2. Story R: PS4/PC cross-platform
Sea of Stars: PS4/PC cross-platform: I tell ya, if they did not bring out a PS5 BD, they could have "be gone":
Sword and Fairy: PS4/PC cross-plaform
Visions of Mana: PS4/PC cross-platform
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: PS4/PS cross-platform. However, it has been remastered on PS5

Dark Souls Trilogy: PS4 version

Results are, so far: Total 36 games, 5 titles are still PS5 only (14% P5 only), 3 titles are not available on PS4 (total 22% not available on PS4) and 28 games are cross-platform on PS4 and PC (making it 64% available on both platforms at once).

What it means, everyone will have to know for themself but to me...no need to decide... PS5 is the way to go!

From all those games i got 2 of them on PC: Horizon Forbidden West CE and Ghost of Tsushima, which got added at some later date, it was PS5 only for a long time.

But I thought Ghosts made you have a PSN account for even single player which is terribly dumb to me.

How is Ronin? How is Nioh?
The single player does not require a PSN account. I play it in single player only. There is a error-message if no multiplayer-program enabled, this can safely be ignored. Guess Sony did not bother removing it, but at least there is no DRM.

Multiplayer is still possible (EGS version, on PS5 i already own a PSN account... no matter there). In this case need to set up a multiplayer-program (which works outside Steam or EGS) and use the PSN login there.

In the end, best condition on PC, of course, but it is already great on PS5. The difference is rather marginal and only for those who got eyes like a eagle.

Of course, on PS4 it is technically much worse (on the PS4 Pro not the graphics but the performance is just about 30 FPS vs. 60 FPS on the PS5) but i guess the customers over there got other priorities. It is not the "same build", which means, the graphics has been improved on the remastered PS5 and PC port. The PC port is basically the PS5 port with some PC adjustement with the advantage that it can always run maxed at 60 or more FPS. On PS5 there is some performance loss or graphic loss required (the usual performance or graphic mode), but it runs pretty good, even in graphic mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iC87c9u98Ao

Hell... currently there is no reason to be excited, no matter where you look at... the tech industry kinda sucks. AMD was putting the same chipset inside, so basically my old MSI ACE board is still the last tech.... at least something making me smile... because my investment was "well done". Apart from that... simply the most lame hardware generation ever.... the only real upgrade is "the new name". AHAHAHA...oh my...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v26W-VslJgg

I really hope Nvidia is bringing something cooler to the table soon. If those 5000 series is going to become equally lame, at least i can save up A LOT of cash on a new 120 FPS GPU and a new 120 Hz TV. I am gonna say "not ready yet, moving to the next era of high FPS", and will continue using my 11 year old plasma TV (still working, just awesome that Panasonic quality): I still remember, the day i got this TV... in 2013, the seller was looking at me with a sad face... because almost no one was looking out for a Plasma which is now discounted (the last Pana Plasma) because production will ultimately stop, almost everyone was asking for LED-LCD instead, mostly from Samsung. Then he was asking me if i want a warranty extension from 2 to 4 years... oh dear, i was kinda smiling hard and already had in mind this seller got no clue what he is actually selling and is undererstimating this discounted 3k coin TV... now for half the cash. So i said, with a high self confidence... NO... you may need it on every other TV here but not on this underestimated piece. Well... since that day 11 years of excessive use has passed and... the TV was surviving many other devices and is still alive.

Sarang: How is Ronin? How is Nioh?
I guess you enjoy authentic and realistic "Samurai games",which is actually a rather rare genre, i only own 2 of them on PC: Ghost of Tsushima and Trek to Yomi, pretty unique too. I guess you know them, so no need to explain.

Ninja games, games that goes into a comparable direction but not very realistic is as well pretty rare nowadays, but in the "good old consoles" there was many of them.... Tenchu, Onimusha and what else.

Ah well, Nioh and Rise of the Ronin, in my mind those may have a art direction that may go into the "Ninja-setting" but ultimately those are typical Action Adventures with very hard difficulty, which is usually enjoyed by "From Software"... the company with the highest game difficulty in overall. Of course "Dark Souls"; leading to the "souls like genre" is as well their invention. Although the most popular "souls like... well hard like a souls" are Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro (unfortunately not on GoG), but i was only playing Elden Ring, from those 3 "most popular" titles.

Although, comparable games are Nioh 1+2 and the forerunner of the entire "super hard genre setting": Demon Souls, which was actually the first game defining the "Souls like genre", not Dark Souls itself. although this title is PS3 and PS5 only so it is less known to the public. Another one is "Bloodborne"; but so far PS4 only and already very hard to get a hard copy from.

Regarding Nioh 1+2, clearly, Nioh was still "at a learning stage" and not fully polished with its gameplay mechanics, it has been improved a good amount on Nioh 2, so Nioh 2 is even better. It is, i think, the first project from Team Ninja trying to make their own version of a "souls like", which is inspired by Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden. In my mind, those games got a very high art-count and for their age a still viable tech-count, especially for the remastered version. The gameplay is "rough" and clearly with a unforgiving difficulty. It is hard to say whats harder but in my mind Nioh 1+2 are perhaps more challenging than Sekiro or Elden Ring, because it is harder to "grind yourself up" in case of weakness and sometimes the enemies can kinda 1-2 shot a player. The tactics is less important than on Elden Ring or alike but, there is sometimes almost zero tolerance to failure. It feels like i am "solo" trying to beat some very strong mobs on a WoW-Raid-Instance. However... there are about 3 different kind of enemies: Usual mobs, guardians, and bosses. The "usual mobs" can be killed pretty fast but do never let your guard down, and always act fast... because if there is a counter-attack... it may still throw you "out of your boots". So it is important to act fast, quick, and be the one "dictating" the attacks. On the guardians the matter is more difficult because, they can sometimes 1 shot you, if they land a single "hard" attack and even if it does not instantly kill. but if the player is dazed the character can not move anymore... which is basically "game over". It is important to know how to "kite" them around, and how to land some attacks without taking critical damage. On the other hand, the guardian can not be dazed and may even lose the hit box, becoming invincible for some seconds... always a hard nut to crack. The bosses on the other hand, they as well can 1-2 shot the player but, the true issue is... there is a certain item-limit and if the attacks are not dodged it can result into "technical game over" pretty quick. Those games are not so much about strategy but surely reaction-based like mad, so... very fast paced games for people who love a fast and demanding pace with the need of a fast reaction time. You have to be "at your best focus and game", else it is not gonna happen for long.

Despite its big difficulty, the game runs on smooth 60 FPS on PS5 and it is visually and with its unique "pace" a work of art, a special game, this is certain. If someone got the nerves and fast reflexes required for it... it can be a special experience, with a lot of moaning at times... simply the stuff we may know from "souls like". The RPG aspect is well made because a lot of items can be collected,,. it kinda feels like a "Grim Dawn" when collecting items and there are a lot of complicated mechanics able to provide a advantage in battle. Most gamers may not do it properly and thus... become frustrated it seems. It got a harsh learning curve but if mastered, i think those games are rock solid in its class.

Besides, the probably hardest game from GoG... let me think... probably "Furi", but i simply lack the patience "to get it right"; guess it is just not my game but maybe i may give it another try if i feel like.

Rise of the Ronin is a bit different. Yes it can be hard but there is a adjustable difficulty on certain points in the game. However, it will reduce the rewards, so there is a trade off. In general this game feels not so well polished and there is a issue with the save files because there is no possibility to delete any files, but in theory it can be created without limits. So, have to be careful not to create to many saves and rather overwriting around 10 files.

The game is "level or mission based", even more than on most "souls-like" and with a certain linear progress, so, not much open world so far but i did only play a few hours so far. The level design is a bit like "Strangers of Paradise: FF Origin", which is a FF spinoff from Ninja Gaiden. Not that well made according to my taste but it is worth it to play, for RPG lovers. The graphic surely was not the strong spot. Same can be said from "Rise of the Ronin", There are some nice graphics as well but in general, the graphics rather is on the level of PS4 and the performance is for unknown reason pretty worse. I run it in performance mode because with any other mode it is nearly unplayable.

It is difficult to tell what genre it is exactly... it feels like a mix between Ghost of Tsushima, Dark Souls and even some "in house titles" such as Ninja Gaiden or Strangers of Paradise. Some mechanics even are remembering me on Horizon Forbidden West.

In general, the combat with a lot of elements we may know from other comparable games, feels good and it is making lot of fun, definitely. It simply is rough on the edges and so far it surely is not at the level of a Nioh or even Ghost of Tsushima, but it does its job of being a pretty unique Ninja game with hard difficulty pretty well and, i guess, anyone loving those sort of games can barely avoid it.

Another difficult game, dependable on settings and player, is Stellar Blade. Currently i just got the demo installed and not sure if i get the game. However, the logic is different here as the player simply need to learn the combos and attack patterns and using it at the right time. If not done properly, it does not take many hits for your character to be wiped out. However, there are several difficulty settings a gamer can chose from, but it may not always be possible changing it. I do not think "this is my type of game" because just full of combat, not much RPG, but it surely is well made for a game of its class. In my mind, Rise of the Ronin is more accessible for players not on a "hardcore how to do it" trip... it is simply more intuitive and eventually most players may over time get the "hang on it" automatically. With Stellar Blade its less intuitive, it is important to strictly execute some required actions following a certain pattern and if not done so... even more unforgiving.

Surely not for gamers looking out for a "relaxing hack and slash"... its for those looking for challenges. But, its interesting to say, that the actual difficulty can change a lot dependable on the player. We all have a different perception and the difficulty is not only dependable on the game but as well on the player... it is either simply "your game" or rather not. Besides there is a censorship-controversy, but the current physical BD version is still uncut, as long as the game is not updated (which can become a issue at some point), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4Jm9hYVx6A

Not sure I quite understand the crowd here that's talking about "Core gamers who care about DRM-free" in a conversation about consoles.

There is no current-gen mainstream DRM-free Playstation. Those shiny discs you get are useless on their own, you will almost always have to connect to the internet and download further updates to your game, I don't think it'll even run without that.

Most games will run without updates and almost any game can (with the exception of online-multiplayer-only-games) constantly being played offline after, but thanks anyway for your "hints". There are core gamers that dont mind DRM, but it is more likely that the may care such "methods" as they simply got more knowledge of everything and can see issues and solutions a "casual" gamer is not able to imagine. Not knowing and not caring are still different things.

Besides, the biggest DRM possible is... Denuvo°° and "constant online connection demand", but as well in general if something becomes "account-bound". Some of the strongest DRM i know of is usually not done by Sony, rather on Steam. Maybe hard to accept, but Sony is not "the worst" if it comes to DRM. °°Means you can not back it up, it is kinda owned by the server and the server/your account will decide if you can play it. If the server is for some reason down or your account is locked for another reason... your playtime may end. Such "licenses" without any ownership in any meaningful way got a very low value and are not worth much for me... perhaps 15 coins a game, every other price is robbery. But it is safe to say, millions of gamers do not care, they just want to "blast money, as they seem to hate money" at every cost.

Not that i ever was looking out for taking up Sonys... sometimes... deserved cudgels, but they are clearly not the worst regarding this matter.

Factually incorrect, as I mentioned before in this thread. Check here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/soooo_700_digital_only_ehhh_smar_move_sonychuckles/post60
It would be really cool if people would make more research and bring more true knowledge to the table instead of so much believing and guessing... guess this is (one of the) the weak spot of humankind, it can not be helped.

Besides; Regarding Bloodborne, there is one big drawback, which is its 30 FPS cap, not only on PS4 but even on PS5. The PS4 can not run higher than this but the PS5, yes it is able to. However, the thing is, Sony... which owns the IP, is not patching it in order to enable 60 FPS, which is a easy matter.

Actually, there seems to be someone who managed to get it running with 60 FPS on a PS5, but this i not legal of course, so i will not provide any details here.

I think, Sony got no interest into providing a 60 FPS mode and even the BD disc sells has been completely stopped. Sony simply got no interest providing this game anymore with the exception of a PSN offer, which was never intended to even support PS5, it is a relict of the past related to the PS4. I think the true reason is because Sony may want to make a remake of it, kinda a rare exclusive, on the PS5 but.... apparently is not able to get things going for whatever reason... kinda fail. It is clear, if it is running worse on any other platform, it is a good leverage for the remake and maybe even "forcing" many players to the PS5 system: Which is still just used by about 50% of the PSN users. Not sure why so many people do not want to "upgrade" but it is creating issues for the PS5 players. Guess a used PS4 can simply be gotten almost for free on the occasion (used)-market, same for its games... and because we got so many "poor gamers" worldwide... they seem to use it until the day it is gonna explode because of age.

Of course, for Sony this entire used market situation they may want to get ride of it, not friendly but simply true. So they are trying to remove discs or putting some stuff to PSN only, which is actually creating even more issues to the PS5 gamers.... yet they seem to be to stupid to realize their "bad move"... in the long term.

Ultimately it simply means, this game is pretty much "busted" in any legal way and as long as Sony is not moving a finger we may "lose this game" in the future.

However, Sekiro on the other hand will run with 60 FPS on the PS5 and even the physical PS4 BD is probably still available. I guess those who owns the IP (not Sony i guess) are not planing to make any remake of it and it has been on PC for a long time already.

Regarding Nioh 1+2 on PS5: It runs butter smooth with either 60 FPS (4k resolution) or even up to 120 FPS (dynamic resolution, 1080P and up)... so it really is one of the best "souls like" currently available on the PS5.

Regarding Dark Souls: There is a Trilogy (1, 2 + 3) as a PS4 BD still available almost everywhere for a cheap price (way cheaper than the Vapor deals which is priced insane). It can be run on PS5 with 60 FPS, everything... guess i even may get me this one. The only PS4 BD games i still may want is... Dark Souls Trilogy and Sekiro, and it is now really cheap.

Again, regarding the console situation. I dont know if Sony is blind or something. It is clear that the PS-gamers are unable to adapt so fast for every new generation (50% is still on PS4!), so they can safely expand the lifetime of one single generation to 10 years and make a "Pro" in between. The PS5 Pro would be +90 rasterization without issues if they would have waited one year longer. PS6 in another 5 years... this would be the perfect "cycle" now.

However, another very critical thing... i do not mind telling it 10 years in a row for every single month: Get the dam optical drive inside the console and stop making this ugly decision of slowly dropping the drive support. This es NOT what the PS-gamers was here for. If they was looking out for a digital-only marketplace... they would just move to Vapor and build themself a trash-PC (or buying on Ebay at a bargain.... whatever) with about PS5-performance.... and then saying goodbye to consoles. They do not even miss exclusives anymore... even the most shiny titles from PSN will move there sooner or later.

It is important to provide the unique console traits and a unique identity, so the players clearly know "why to use a console" and they will know its advantage, Not creating a second PC or perhaps even a Playstation-Deck... this market is "taken" already... by a Leviathan seeking to demolish everything and another one known as Nintendo Switch, in case it has not become noticed.

Most likely i will not buy me PS5 Pro, nope... and i consider myself a core-gamer that is on the top 10% of the "PS-gamers", so i am a customer that would be valid. I still say no, because it just is "providing" me to less value, it makes no sense in the current shape. I already told what would be required to provide sufficient value. So, most likely... i will expand the lifetime of my already nearly 4 year old PS5, up to the time of the PS6 release and lets hope the drive is still available. My old PS5 has been treated with love... even a purple custom-body and 4 TB SSD upgrade has been done. So... i just hope it will "survive" those 8+ years until the PS6 release.

One very important hint (to Sony): Go get a remake of Bloodborne going for the PS6 release... and bundle it at the release! Just the same way it has been done with Demon Souls, but this time with Bloodborne! It surely will boost the popularity of this gen.

Unfortunately, remasters and remakes are one of the main reasons why this console generation has sucked so much so far. For example, Naughty Dog hasn't produced a single completely new game since the PS5 released. Only remasters and remakes. And I'm so tired of seeing people begging for remakes, instead of just playing the originals. Not only does this incentivize companies to stop caring for preservation (because who on earth would want to play the original now that a "superior" remake exists?), it also gives companies an easy time with re-releasing games and making lots of money, instead of pushing innovation and making new original experiences.

Bloodborne has been out for almost 10 years now. Why on earth do you want a remake? Just go play it as it is right now. You can play it on a PS4, PS5, and right now you can even play it on PC via emulation, the true work we should be supporting.
Why do people care about something, they apparently have no interest in?

Also: I am still happy with my PS4.
So much so, that I haven't even bought a PS5 yet...why would I break my head over the PS6 at this point (I read, its release is supposed to be in 2028)?

A lot of water will flow down the Nile in that three+ years.

And if, after all that time, the console will indeed be a "digital download only" console..?
Then I won't buy it.
End of story.

The matter is more complicated: Yes, remakes and remasters takes away valuable resources, so the production of new games can become delayed. Yet, you was leaving out the excessive PC-porting which took place by almost any publisher which was previously almost entirely on the Playstation platform.

This entire porting stuff is another big resource-hog leeching their time, yet it seems to be worth it to them as on Vapor the coins in usual are well "thrown at them".

I mean, studio Sucker-punch, creating Ghost of Tsushima for example, did not much more than a PS5 remaster, which is a new build but there is only minor improvements done on the graphics. However, the entire PC porting stuff was another time leecher. Still, thanks to a DRM free release somewhere i am actually smiling on this one. On the other hand, it surely does not help boosting the PS5.

FromSoftware which was another "strong provider" as well is now supplying console and PC, simultaneously, which is surely asking for even more resources, yet, they was not doing any remakes. nope. All they did is to patch Sekiro for PS5, so it can run in 60 FPS properly (can still use the old PS4 BD, it is just a patch, not even a new build). As well the PC port of Sekiro, which was actually the bigger work, was leeching even more resources. They still did manage, thanks to their sufficient size, to create 2 more new games... Elden Ring and Armored Core, which got released on PS4, PS5 and PC at once... simply because most of the money is now from PC, the other 2 platforms maybe the other 50%. So much porting is time consuming but they did it because it is good for the moneybag. Same matter for Elden Ring.

I can not say that the PS5 is the "failure here", the true issue is simply that the market share has changed a lot and is now way more being dragged by PC and on PSN a lot of "stubborn" PS4 gamers that do not want to upgrade. So kinda... it is making things more complicated. More complicated means "resource leecher" and in the end "less new games". But even if there are even more games... every second new game may still become released on PS4, and almost any of them on PC...

There is simply almost no exclusives anymore and if so... it will only be a limited time exclusive coming to PC at some point. I do not want to judge if it is good or bad... but if Steam only... then i would say "bad", but most PC users surely are smiling and are throwing coins at them, as long as it is on Vapor (other stuff the may barely care).

Capcom is another company slowly leaving the console environment and nowadays providing PS5 and PC at the same time. It may slow things down a bit but not because of remasters or non existent remakes (i do not know of remakes or even remasters... maybe i fail to detect it).

Yes there has been many remasters... rather few remakes, but i do not think this was the main culprit of "few new games"... the main culprit is rather that the landscape of support has changed and the more complicated nature of providing many platforms at once is simply slowing everything down.

As well, most of the "great games" are released rather late in every new console generation because it simply takes time developing them. Ghost of Tsushima for example... it is not even a genuine PS4 title anymore because it got released at the time the PS4 was "in theory" at its very last year and the PS5 was already around the year it has been released. So the porting was a "no brainer" but of course, in need of some more resources.

Almost same for Sekiro, released in 2019 it was on the very last years of the intended PS4-life cycle, although mainly developed on PS4 as far as i can say. Finally, no true PS4 game anymore because porting was almost set in stone at that point and being released even on the now dead Goggle Stadia... almost hilarious but FromSoftware is not to shy bringing it over to a place with money... unless DRM free... they really hate DRM free.

Regarding Team Ninja, they actually was releasing a new PS5 game but the gamers barely notice it... guess the game simply was not so much of a hit, yet according to my judgement, still a good game.

Yeah, perhaps the earth will be nothing else than a roasted place, which has been ended by the Flood after; without any console left... perhaps a few smoking PCs and a true vapor known as Steam. But... i do not only look into the future to much, i try to enjoy my here and now as well. So why not to have joy with better graphics, performance and even some new game? The future i may not be able to change a lot but small changes are done with my decisions i make HERE and NOW. Sure, if i stop buying consoles or discs... because "in the future it will be gone anyway, regarding my pessimistic predictions", then it will be like a self fulfilling prophecy, and in the end it may become true. If i do not want to lose something... then it will need my support... not that i may succeed but it is only over the time i give up.

Look... to be more precise: I own a PS5 with a disc drive inside. I did not buy any other console. If everyone would do the same... there will be no digital version anymore. Perhaps there would be no console at all if Sony is deciding it should be "digital only" and PSN marketplace is the only thing of value. So... be it... then we all may simply suck at the breast of the PSN, Vapor and what else servers and use the cheapest PCs we was able to build or buy... if this is the way the majority is living and loving... so be it. Yet, I DO NOT GIVE UP unless everything i love is broken into dust and until the point i completely failed... and at that very point a phoenix may come and raise me... together with the stuff i love "out of the ashes".

Ah well, time to face the music. I bought my last console with the PS4 Slim.

The price isn't even that much of a problem. It's the shift to digital only as default and the fact that there aren't that many games that even interest me coming out on console.

Good news too, I can finally order a 4k player.
