It starts with Fortnite and is supposed to work in the future with "selected third party content".

Not that I need it, but for some people this might be big news.
Yes, but it's still Sony and they're still being run by a bunch of psychopaths that don't understand the concept of property ownership or customer rights.
What? All of a sudden they are not the absolute best gaming experience anymore?
They seemed adamant in implying that we should all discard our gaming tools in favor of PS4. :P

You mean completely unlike Microsoft, Nintendo and Apple? ... Oh, wait.

I would say Nintendo here given the dicks they've been about VCS. NES Switch subscription?! Piss off Nintendo, let me buy stuff like "Little Samson" and other rares then I'll shut up. Sony are the only ones who've been decent that we've got rare games from in PS Store even if it's mainly been 3rd parties like Atlus who made the first move.
More console war stuff, plox, said nobody ever.

None of those other companies caused CDs to be shot across the room fast enough to destroy them or changed the feature list of a released device because they didn't like what the user was doing.

Not that those other companies are so great, but you're being willfully ignorant if you don't see how much worse Sony is than the other companies.

They may not have done the CD projectile thing, but instead pulled off other anti-consumer crap. Repeatedly.

I just found it odd that you specifically bashed Sony, when all their competitors are just as bad, in their own ways. They'll do whatever they can get away with, whenever there's an opportunity to make even more cash.

Besides, your original comment was off-topic, since this is about crossplay functionality, which is good news for any PS4 gamers. It's not about Sony's stance on consumer rights.

On topic: I suspect they only did this because they were afraid to miss out on all that Battle Royale and MOBA hype ( and the money it brings ).

It's not offtopic, doing something like this after being dragged kicking and screaming isn't something that they should be lauded for.

If anything, this makes it somewhat less compelling to put up with their crap.
It's only for Fortnite (so far), and only because they were looking at facing legal action by their own users for blocking their third party Fortnite accounts from being linked to another platform.

But still, maybe they are going soft. Maybe they will actually release a firmware update soon to actually allow the PS4 to play a fucking music CD. I doubt it though, they want you to use their streaming service. This is the company that originally tried to ban the MP3 format in court, whilst feverishly working away on their own proprietary format (that failed).

Sony are a pack of assholes, always have been, and they ARE worse than all the others.

Of course it's off-topic -- your opinion of Sony as a company ( or anyone else's opinion regarding that matter ) isn't really relevant, since the topic of the thread isn't "What do you think about Sony?" or "Which console company is the worst?", it's "Soon crossplay available on Sony's PS4 ". And that topic is only relevant to people who either: 1) Currently own a PS4 and look forward to playing against their friends on other platforms, or 2) are considering to buy a PS4, and this could be a factor in their decision. Judging by your opinion of Sony, I suspect you're in neither of these two categories, and probably couldn't care less about this development.

And you're right, they don't deserve a pat on the back just because they finally allow this. It's not like they're doing this because they're such nice guys. I think they're afraid of being left behind, because even the Nintendo Switch has Fortnite Battle Royale and apparently allows crossplay. And I think PUBG is Xbox exclusive on consoles... ?
nevermind

People actually own PS4's? I mean what good games do they have which aren't on PC?

Only one there that even looks slightly good is P5 and it's on PS3.
