Heck even I am an ex-soldier (if a conscript counts as one), even though I haven't been in a war nor killed any human but I've run over a stray dog and a snake with a pickup in Thailand, if that counts.

Nowhere in the job description of police officers does it say that they have to protect people.

They protect and serve the elites and their interests and the system, not the ordinary people.
And their job is to stop crime, not jump in front of a speeding bullet meant for some ordinary person.
