Does anyone know anything more beyond that?

Its the first steam exclusive of the series; so now way play it legit DRM free unlike the others.
Wow! That would be great. Though I should probably buy Civ III and IV first. Hopefully there will be a sale or a bundle on GOG
Does the gameplay in Civ 5 have any improvements over Civ 4? I've never looked at Civ 5 as it was out of my reach because of the online DRM. And I probably would prefer a release of Civ 2 or even Civ 1 over Civ 5.

Depends what you class as improvements really... Civ 5 is the first game to drop multiple units per tile, so it does play quite differently to the previous iterations.
I need to pick it up again to be sure but I think I preferred it to 6, which I'm playing again at the moment and still finding annoying.
I think 4 and 5 are my favourite entries in the series so far.
Overall it's definitely worth having here.
I liked five better then four and would love to see it on gog.
Are there good mods like FFH for Civ 5?

That's not the point of the question. I didn't ask if we needed civilization 5, I'm asking if there is any new information on its release.

In addition, civ 3 and 4 are different products. Asking if 5th is needed because we have the prequels is like asking if any sequels are needed in any franchise.
Awesome, but I'm mainly hoping for Beyond Earth. Would so rebuy it here if they add proper Galaxy functionality.

No doomstacks and less RNG-y combat, to name a couple.
I did notice that Civ 5 (complete version) has been available for pocket change several times in the past months, so I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised at all, especially since I recently caved in and bought it for myself. I already redeemed it on STEAM, so it would be only fair to be punished for it.

^Second that. Ancient Rome phalanx defeating tanks were really frustrating in first and third (Civs I played) games.

Me too. I would buy an all-content-bundled-together bundle of Civ V for a reasonable price.

I think there are, but I don't know much much intertwined they are with the Steam Games Workshop. I think that running mods did not require that part of Steam, but on the other hand it was kind of integrated. Didn't follow it closely.

Releases like that are always welcome to GOG, and needed, imo.

That said, and while not as bad as the last iteration of the series, for me the Civilizations games ended up with IV. V is...different, the experiment that will end up in the failed and bland "spiritual successor" of Alpha Centauri and, finally, in the cartoonish and boring simplified game that is Civilization VI. IMHO, of course.

I am still playing III and IV, and we already have them here, so i really encourage those of you who have not played them to do it. Awesome games still with that "old feeling".

V is "meh" for me. I can play a game with it, but after doing that i will need to play III or IV again. I agree, though, in that doomstacks were bad but i would have preferred a simple unit limit in each hex instead of what CiV V did.

Oh, and please bring also here the old ones! (including the first Civ and the first Call to Power)
