Haven't played any of those, but Hollow Knight and Momodora. That last one sounds like lot of fun, you could try that after either of HK and Momo.

Anyway, I think I'll play Arena up to the end of the Labyrinthian (which is where the game starts using too many old enemies; why am I still fighting spiders there?) and then maybe try one of the other games; I'm thinking TGL?

Actually no, because I am planning to stop, at least for now, after I finish the Labyrinthian.

It's interesting playing as a Knight who fights solely by using spellcasting weapons as items, and not actually swinging her sword.

It's a matter of six of one or half a dozen of the other, really.

The Guardian Legend would've gotten my vote, as it's one of the few old console games I wouldn't mind trying out. But given what I've heard about the game, it's probably one I'd never beat.

Apparently item duplication is possible in the GBA version of Final Fantasy 5, so maybe I should replay that?

(Also, judging from a few bits of a speedrun that I watched, it seems there's some way to get Ragnorak early in the GBA version; I'll need to investigate.)

At least TES Arena is humanly possible to finish, unlike TES Daggerfall.

Sure it consumes time, but TES Arena is pretty straightforward, you make progress all the time, if you start getting bored exploring the dungeons you can just speedrun without caring about most of the enemies, just trying to find the exit to the next level etc.

And if you get fed up running back to towns to repair your breaking weapons, just use your fists all the time, they don't break up. Sure it takes more hits to kill anyone, but who cares.

Or, of course, you could play a Knight. Every day at midnight, a Knight will automatically repair their weapons and armor (but not accessories), so the fast travelling you have to do in the main quest should be enough to keep your weapons and armor in shape. Get Auriel's Shield (best artifact for this class, 750 point Shield plus Spell Reflection, and the Knight's auto-repair works on this), a few spellcasting weapons (Firestorm and Lifesteal are good since they have high durability), and you should be able to breeze through the game.

If I were speedrunning this game, I would play a Nightblade. Nightblades can cast spells, and can therefore use the Spellmaker. Furthermore, they get discounts for some or the spell effects that are useful in speedrunning (Open and Invisibility come to mind).

There are speedruns of this game, but they all use a glitch that allows you to replay a short dungeon 17 times instead of actually playing through the main quest dungeons. I think it would be interesting to see a speedrun of the game that does not use that glitch. (I note that the class chosen is Nightblade, but Open is not actually used, as it isn't necessary (for speedrunning) until the Labyrinthian, which can be effectively skipped with a strong enough Open effect.)
