Undertale. While it doesn't look appealing to me I'm sure it's quite good, but the fact is the rabid fanbase has put me off so much I don't think I'll ever play it. If there's one way to ruin good art it's to have a mob of weirdos froth at the mouth about it.

Is it that bad? I played the game itself a couple weeks ago without knowing much about it, and I really enjoyed it. I even admit to asking my real life friends to play it so we can talk about it over a beer (unfortunately, they keep playing dota). Then I saw it take first place on the top games list by Jim Sterling, TB and Yahtzee; so I assume I'm not the only one who liked it, but I have not been exposed to any bad fanbase and I'm kinda curious. Nowhere curious enough to leave GOG to check fandoms, of course.

Its essentially Earthbound for Indie Hipsters.

I have a bias against these kinds of Indie games. I associate them with people like Johnathan Blow and Phil Fish. Heck I saw the creator hanging out with Tim Schafer.

And the game is just increadibly prententious. I saw one of the endings and I just think it was cringeworthy.

So it's down to you not liking the game itself, not the fandom. Not the right thread then.

I won't discuss the game here. I liked it, you didn't; admittedly I haven't played earthbound so I don't know how it compares and that probably plays a part.

The thing is I did gave this game a chance. I watched Spoony's stream of it (Caught it just when it began)

And I just got bored as he did. And everyone is overhyping the skeleton characters.

And one of the Twitter responses to Spoony was along these lines "Its saddnes me that Spoony just cannot find his inner childhood when playing Undertale"

His childhood was the Ultima games :P

Final Fantasy on Steam forums.... Elitist jerks rule the place!!

I've met some horrible Steam fans, I'm talking about the "You're not a Gamer unless you use Steam!" type of zealots. I'll respect other's choice to use it & it'd be nice if they respect my choice not to.

Does the politically correct crowd count? If so, that one, now everything is somehow offensive and they have to gain their +1 internet points.
If not, the Nintendo one, they have been brainwashed to the point where no deals means that the game has more value, "no paid dlc" and yet they buy toys that have dlc on it, everything nintendo does has value therefore buying a new charger is ok because everyone else had a previous 3DS device so they must have a charger, etc.
