darthspudius: aren't dating sims a bit weird and creepy? After all we have the local pub and actual woman... they are also in high definition.
Beer goggles don't count as "high definition" :P

Isn't it weird and creepy that most games are about killing stuff in an entertaining and exciting way?

Local pub? That's localized even for the UK.

After all we have the local pub and actual people we can beat in a bar brawl.

Ah, well, I guess it's just less painful to do virtually, like with dating.

You are assuming that real-world people are preferable. Besides, odds are that AIs and virtual reality would someday render traditional society obsolete.

Anyhow, the big upside of VNs is that they combine the length and detail of a book with pictures, sound, and music. Media such as movies cannot convey some forms of information very well, all the while being too expensive to create much content.

Furthermore, VNs are similar to other media in that they are a medium. "VN" only indicates how content is presented, not what the content represents. To say VNs are "weird and creepy", is like suggesting that all movies are romantic comedies.

He was referring to dating sims, not VNs in general.

[X] you got it. :-)

And the best thing is, if you've had enough, you can simply turn it off. Try that with a real woman...

Not really. If I could legally brutally murder someone I might just do it. Sadly... no.

My friend this is why they invented chick flicks and chocolate.

How about a dating/murder sim? It's the best of both worlds!

Sure it does, also, there are high-quality special effects applied - blur, distortion, and sometimes a faded monochromacity.

Now we're talking "weird and creepy" ;-)

Doesn't work with my wife.

Sabin_Stargem: A fair number has been receiving official translations in recent years, along with various western indie studios trying their hand. My pick:

A: The Fruit of Grisaia Trilogy, along with the Magical Girl Michiru spinoffs.
B: Muv-Luv series.
C: Corpse Party series.
D: Stein's Gate
E: World End Economica
F: Clannad
G: Ever 17
H: Planetarian
All of these. They were what I was going to type for the thread :)

Also, I kickstarted Grisaia and Clannad, and own the PC limited edition hard copy of Steins;Gate. All great games. All the rest would be very welcome too.

Also, If My Heart Had Wings :

When you add creepy into it, it makes everything good. It partially works on mine. It's more like Japanese horror movie and chocolate haha.
