Dungeon Keeper II has a bit of tower defence appeal.

paladin181: I enjoyed Two Worlds II Castle defense. It does feel a little like a mobile game but is pretty solid gameplay wise.
Plus you get it as a freebie included with Two Worlds II, which goes on sale fairly often. Two games for the price of one. :)

Also, there's Sang-Froid here.

Forgot the ultimate daddy of all tower defense games - GemCraft - http://store.steampowered.com/app/296490/

If you ever get only 1 TD games, this is the one.

I heard the Van Helsing games have a neat tower defense portion. I haven't gotten there, yet, though.

The most I played was Defense Grid. It's a solid game through and through.

I'll throw another vote to Sang-Froid. I couldn't beat it, but I had a lot of fun all the time I played it. It's usually really cheap a few times per year.

There's a mech game from Double Fine that I can't remember the name to that is a tower-defense + first-person-mech-shooter. That's pretty fun, too. And it has lots of character.
(P.S. Found the name: Iron Brigade (formerly titled Trenched))

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look and buy a game or two during the sales.

ZFR: Thanks for the suggestions everyone. So, nothing on GOG?
Well... how's "Hero Mode" going in DQ? :)

Also note, I've been BEGGING to bring Gemcraft here. I've held off on buying the new one on Kongregate, as the full version (as of right now) is Steam-only.

Previous Gemcraft games are amazing.

I HIGHLY recommend labyrinth, available at Tower or Kongregate.

I really got into Defense Grid. I wasn't sure I would like the genre, but it did a great job of convincing me I could love a DT game. It's really THE tower defense game as near as I can tell.

I couldn't get into Anomaly. The role reversal was a dismal bust for me and I generally didn't like anything about it. Or so I say. I couldn't stand to invest any actual time into it, so I'm speaking out of partial ignorance. It is available here, and some people dug it.

Space Run has some potential and sold here. I've only played a couple of hours of it at this point.

Haven't started it yet.

I'll be gone on holidays mid December till end of Jan with only my laptop with me. I'll if I start it sometime then.
I must admit I find it a bit amusing you state "No browser games, mobile games or anything similar." after listing two Flash games (one of which started life as a browser game and is usually mentioned in mobile contexts).

Anyway, I don't really enjoy TD, but I think Revenge of the Titans is decent. And Dungeon of the Endless is actually pretty interesting, but it's not a straight-up TD (I've seen it described as a "roguelike TD", but I don't think that quite captures it) - too bad there's no Linux version.
Defense Grid (why is this not on GOG?)&
Defender's Quest are two of the best out there.

I don't mind the games starting and being mentioned in any context as long as the version I play is "a full PC game. No browser games, mobile games or anything similar."
Other addition: Sol Survivor and Sanctum saga.
Revenge of the Titans is incredibly fun, but becomes extremely difficult later in the game. I think I got about 80% into the campaign before getting hopelessly stuck at a level.
