takezodunmer2005: Yeah, gog at least has an option to use Galaxy or not, and you can store the game files for off-line installation! I would wager that AAA will fuck up the industry to the point of another crash/reset much like what happened in the 80s, then maybe we can get back to buying our games without the bullshit...A man can dream though!

CharlesGrey: GOG sort of leaves you an option. For now. :<

As for the rest of the industry, no idea where it's heading, but most of the developments don't look good. I still have some hope for Indie games. Seems as soon as Indie Devs are successful they tend to use the same business tactics as the big AAA companies, but at least there are always new games and Dev teams worth supporting. In example, Darkwood was apparently made by three guys ( and a dog ), and it's a really good and unique game.
Yep, you're correct for the most part; but a lot of European indies still stay true, Croteam, Flyingwildhog and those lovable silly guys over at Larian are still devvin' the good dev!

Though reality pump has dropped the ball with their shitty Two Worlds 2 microtransactions with a mediocre 6 yr old game, so there are no absolutes...But still, I pretty much default towards indies nowadays and only buy AAA with a 75-90% discount!

And yeah, wishlisted darkwood myself!
- Mainly here on GOG;
- Sometimes I get a bundle from HB;
- On occasion I reached for Nuuvem to grab a few must-play games that are chained to Steam. So far that means Arkham Origins & Arkham Knight) ;
- Oh and a lifetime ago I bought 1 or 2 bundles on Groupees.

That's pretty much it for PC games.

The few android games I have are either the rare free game on the Play Store that doesn't ask permissions to control my phone, its camera and mic, my photos, my soul... or from humble mobile bundles.

As for consoles... my last console was a Super Nintendo :) (One of these days I might grab a handheld, tho.)

CharlesGrey: In Humble's case it may be worth it, as they offer many DRM-free games not available on GOG, and they don't require you to install some extra client software like most other distributors.
Generally speaking you are right, it's just I'm not sure that's the case with me. :-)
Sure, I still keep my DRM-Free Bioshock installer (though it's been a while since I last played the game and now that I got a remastered version on Steam, well, I'm more likely to try it instead; also, I'll be surprised if the original or even remaster doesn't make its way to GOG in a year or two) and some other game which I only played on Steam anyway (I deleted Knock-Knock DRM-Free installer I got from HB on the day I got the game connected to GOG), but skimming through Humble's DRM-Free catalog, I don't see anything that I'd care to keep off-Steam and isn't on GOG (sometimes even in my library :-) ) already.

But of course YMMV and all that, so I'm not saying my approach is the universal one. :-)
The vast majority of my purchases are on GOG. My second preferred place to buy from is Humble Bundle, for their Mobile bundles, but also for the occasional AAA, bundled title. Thirdly, I buy from Gamersgate and Bundle Stars, which occasionally have extremely good deals. In fact, lately, the "Star deals" from Bundle Stars have been particularly great.

I'm happy to report that I have bought maybe 10 games directly from STEAM, mostly co-op games to play with my brother, and some of their VALVE games.

Sanjuro: but skimming through Humble's DRM-Free catalog
Errr... for me that link lists also games like GTA V, Life Is Strange, Fallout 4, the new Doom game etc.

Somehow I have hard time believing the Humble Store is offering a DRM-free installer for those games, or even that the Steam version wouldn't have any DRM (even CEG). That Humble Store list does seem to have the "DRM-Free" filter enabled, yet it lists games like that. To me it appears that DRM filter on HS is not working right.

Weird, now that I open the link, it's just as you described, though everything worked fine at the time I copied it.
Try re-applying the filter (de-selecting "DRM-Free", then re-selecting it), that just worked for me.

Yeah that does it, you have to disable and re-enable the filter to get the correct list.
- GOG
- Humble Bundle
- Steam and resellers for sale
- Garage sale for retail copies

Yep, they changed something about their website/filtering system, so it's kinda glitched up. You need to select the correct filter manually whenever you open the page, but then it should work.
Usually Amazon. Sometimes Humble Bundle if they got a really good bundle going on. I have not bought any games on GOG or Steam in a long time. Still no where cleaning up my classics and my computer can't run the newest games anymore. I might be buying from GOG again soon though. Came here to download some of my creepyish games for October.

I don't buy games very often, but I buy things from GOG few times a year. I also buy bundles from HumbleBundle. This is generally just for things that cost few euro, I don't buy new games for PC at all because my computers are old and I actually hate digital distribution so I see no point thinking about future in PC gaming.
I don't buy directly from Steam anymore and I never intend to again, I get keys from bundles though.

I'm thinking of consoles in the future, like year or two from now, and will be buying physical for those when ever possible, and if not possible I might not really need it after all.
PC: GoG and Steam primarily. Uplay (I haven't bought anything from them, yet.)

Console/Retail: Gamestop (Mostly). Amazon. Eshop (Nintendo).
GOG, sometimes humble (so long as it comes with direct download), directly from the devs (Where avaliable), and also any CDs I found lying round my house.
