What genres are left excluding electric guitar?, I mean: Which ones do you like then? (Assuming you are fine with the million rest string instruments electrified: bass, violin, piano, ukulele...)

By Folk Music, you refer specifically to the good ole' German "Oom-pah" tuba music, rather than Yankee violin & banjo music. None of which I can directly reference because being old folk songs, they have vague titles at best.

If such music is re-arranged to not use the electric guitar, I can actually enjoy it.

(For example: Te musical Jason and the Technicolor Dream Coat (I think that's the name) has some songs I just can't listen to. I went to a high school production where they used ecoustic guitar instead and I could actually enjoy those songs.)

As for genres that are left:
* Folk music. (Note that this is a *very* broad category; Klezmer and Japanese folk music sound nothing alike, for example.)
* Classical, which as I've said includes many different styles (the music of Bach and the music of Mahler are completely different, for example).
* Chiptune music, and electronic music that doesn't try to mimic the electric guitar. This includes any music that the NES can produce, for example. (Note that NES music isn't all just one style; Mega Man and Dragon Quest are very different musically, despite using the same sound chip.)

Taking for granted you dislike the protagonism of the electric guitar, might be the problem the steel strings then?
I mean, violin is a strings instrument and it is the protagonist in genres like swing and gypsy where there are a bunch of acoustic guitars providing the rythmn and complementary solos.

I am sorry if I am considered very inquisitive. It's that is difficult to me to find someone disliking electric guitar. I want to believe is not the -whole- package but a particularity about it :)

Electric guitar, for whatever reason, gives me headaches, so I can't listen to it for more than short periods..

Another thing: I don't generally like music that's in major keys.

I strongly prefer minor keys to major keys.

(There's some situations where the difference matters more. For example, Mozart I strongly prefer in minor (it's a shame that only 2 out of his 41 symphonies are in minor keys; there's a reason my favorite Mozart symphonies are 25 and 40), but with Beethoven the major key parts are not as bad.)

Other than those two, I am pretty open to any genre. If I like the song, I like it regardless of its genre.

With jazz specifically (and most of rap I guess), my main problem probably is that they fail to convey any emotion to me, or they are very two-dimensional with it. Like sadness, longing, danger, fear, love, energetic happiness... To my ears, jazz is mostly just about "oobedoobedoobedoo, I am singing here without any emotions, oobedoobedoobedoo", while rap is about "damn we are sooo angry and badass, don't you see?". Too flat and two-dimensional.

And so on and so forth... All those examples happen to be in the "rock" genre, but then there is a reason why we say something "rocks", rather than "jazzes" or "raps".

Opera is, of course, a diverse category of music.

Of note:
* It is common for operas to have instrumental overtures, many of which have become staples of the orchestral reprotoire (sp?); many of them have been transcribed for concert band. (In fact, I recently performed one in a community band, but I should probably mention that the clarinet parts are often *hard* in those transcriptions.)
* There's a difference between a Mozart opera and a Wagner opera in style. (Wagner even introduced the notion of a leitmotif, when a specific character is given a specific melody; this sort of thing appears again in modern movie and video game music.)
* There's even some more recent operas where the singing style is more like a broadway musical. Perhaps those operas might be more to your liking if you don't like operatic singing.

I would compare most musicals with very few exceptions to operettas rather than to operas, they have more common ground.
