mechmouse: VALVe does not care about gamers, it cares about money.

Breja: That, I assure you, is the case everywhere. It's only a matter of a)how well is the company in question hiding it, and b)what is their particular strategy of making money.
Nah man I'm sure GOG pays salaries with 'the goodwill of gamers'.
Heh... after this survey is over and Microsoft decides what their next move is there will be an announcement from them something like...

<microsoft>: Hey gamers, Microsoft here. We're launching a major new campaign for improving gaming on Windows. Major. Yes, it's going to big. It's going to be YUGE. We're going to Make Windows Gaming Great Again. That's right, it's going to be great. Fantastic. It's really fantistic, it really is, and believe us we know all about being fantastic. We've done fantastic things before. Fantastic amazing things, and we're going to do it again. One thing we're going to do - and this is going to be really great, is we're going to build a gaming wall. That's right, a gaming wall around windows and it's going to be a great wall, a YUGE wall. Nobody has built a wall before like we're going to build. It's going to be fantastic. Believe us, we know how to build walls, and this is going to be quite the wall. Not only that, but we're going to get Ubisoft Mexico to pay for it...

nightcraw1er.488: M$ listen to user base, since when?
Office - since ribbons has got progressively worse
Hotmail - since outlook.com is now completely broken even on ie
Internet Explorer - worst possible browser for many iterations
Win vista - OMG its so bad
Win 8 - its nearly as bad as vista
Win 10 - spyware, dropped drivers, sneaky installs etc.
gFWL - or dead as you might say
Silverlight - lasted a.few.months
XNA - discontinued
I mean, can anyone think of a single product from them which has improved over the last few years, even with thier "tells us what you think" boxes appearing everywhere?
Perhaps the Surface? They seem to be doing well in acquiring all of the sports licenses (NFL, NBA, etc.) in the US. Not sure if tablets and the like are utilized in Futbol?

With that said, I too do not believe MS cares or will ever care unless they see it as a revenue future win. This is them hanging a new carrot on the proverbial stick so that we continue to dream that "someone" has the consumer's back in PC gaming.

No thanks MS, I can see that even though that carrot looks great on the outside I know that in the inside it is hallow.

rtcvb32: It's my primary example of what to expect and not to trust MS. (Among using Malware tricks to get people on Windows 10)
Funny, it's also my primary example of how Microsoft listens to customers. Microsoft makes a lot of unpopular decisions, but it regularly goes back on them, partly or completely.

timppu: On the same note, I don't like how UEFI Secure Boot makes it trickier to install alternative (non-Windows) OSes to the system, and last I heard MS is even dropping the requirement for "PC" vendors to offer a way for the user to disable it. A blatant attempt to make PCs Windows-only platform, curbing Linux, SteamOS and such.
UEFI secure boot doesn't make it any trickier to install non-Windows OSes... it only make it trickier to install OSes who don't have a valid UEFI secure boot key. Several Linux distro (e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat entreprise, etc...) supports secure boot out of the box, for the others it's a one time 99$ fee for the license IRC.

Also most non-eom bios allows you to disable secure boot, and MS only remove the obligation to have an option to disable secure boot, they didn't impose to have secure boot always enable it's a decision left to the manufacturer.

timppu: The more MS does this, the more I start wishing Android platforms become the next "PC". Google openly allows alternative app stores to operate in the system (e.g. Humble Bundle's store and app),
It was harder on Windows 8 but on 10, you only have to check a check box (similar to Android) to be able to side-load store applications.

Trilarion: So if Microsoft really wants to find out: programm a client like Steam, Galaxy, Uplay or Origin. Cannot be that difficult.
Given how peoples go batshit insane over the telemetry data collected by Windows 10 might it might not be such a good idea...

No, Microsoft doesn't give a flying shit anymore about users. All they want now is for everyone to use their juicy juicy paid cloud services. Fuck them, fuck them all.

VisualStudio 2015 - it supports more C++ 11/14/17 features than ever before

Direct X12 is faster than Direct X11

These Surface Pro Tablets are running like a charm (like a MacBook basically).

Gotta say, I like the VS IDE, but it just installs way too much stuff, even the light versions if they are still available. I prefer SharpDevelop for a lightweight c# IDE, and haven't really used C++ in 10 years or so.

DX - I have no idea, not used 12, but I know its Win 10 only, so this comes under the Win10 debacle - in fact I can't think of a technical reason why it couldn't be backdated.

Never seen the point in tablets/surface, but then I am quite old. They make good child pacifiers, but otherwise?
my main issue with win10 is the pressure they're putting on to upgrade, its too agressive.

Other than that its not too bad of an OS. far better than win8, and fast too.

Parts of it are still work in progress thugh.
Well, I answered it. Like filling surveys and why not make my opinion known when possible? And made full use of the space where I could fill in, when asked how could PC gaming be better, how could my OS be better for gaming and why I'm not "upgrading" to 10.

The question that asks what percentage of your owned games are free-to-play, subscription-based, pay-to-own and, respectively, free from torrent sites is fun though.

I guess that's the problem in itself (and that it costs money). Not sure why, but many Linux distros seem to suggest turning secure boot off.

Also, doesn't it cause issues if you want to e.g. run installed Linux from an external USB device (e.g. a flash drive or USB hard disk)?

It shouldn't be left to the manufacturer as many will get lazy and just drop the ability to disable it.

For instance my few years old ASUS gaming laptop, I think it supports secure boot, but ASUS somehow changed that completely in some BIOS/UEFI update. I think earlier there was an option somewhere to switch it off and on, but it seems at some point either they made it somehow automatic (ie. the user doesn't select it, it is on or off depending on... something), or then they dropped it completely. At least there is no option to disable (nor enable) anywhere in the options anymore, or then they have made it very complicated how it is done.

interesting... Visual Studio 2015 secretly inserts telemetry without telling the programmer...

thinks its sad that gog.com isn't listed as a method to obtain games.
