I don't use it.

I only installed the Blizzard client because I really wanted to play classic Starcraft, but otherwise, I really dislike having to install clients to play games. The less bloat the better.
I agree 100% with the bloat: it's bad enough windows and hardware need to install drivers , tools and updates
which trash my pc and bloat my registry ( heaven knows what they write to the poor registry).

How many user are using GOG Galaxy now, ? i don't know i don't use GOG Galaxy , i have to use the steam client to download the casual games i buy and thats sad enough, if i had a choice to download the casual games without steam i would do it right away .

Anyway, i do not favor or like using any client software maybe its because i grew up playing games and installing my games in the old fashioned way: run a setup and thats it.

That's a large part of my position. Installing games these days isn't that much different from way back when you got a game on floppies: you have the installer files, run the setup, and then play the game. Maybe when the typical manual installation becomes really onerous... but it's nowhere near that point, in my opinion.

summitus: Just wondering how many people are using it now and if everyone is generally happy with it. I had it installed for a short time , hoping to see all games with achievements but uninstalled it since.
Well, I got Galaxy and it is quite nice in terms of installing/updating your games. But there is a problem: after last update when I run Galaxy and launch some games from it (like FTL) - after some time it shuts my PC and i have to restart it with reset button. So now I use Galaxy only for installing/updating and launch games directly from their directory without Galaxy (yes, you can run them in standalone mode even with installed Galaxy). :)

HereForTheBeer: I don't have Torment and can't check that one
I do, and just out of curiosity I checked it: there's no Galaxy installer for the game, only Classic installers. At least that's all there is in my library.
avatar
HereForTheBeer: -snip-

Go into your library here on the website, and select the game in question (Torment in this case)
Just to the right of the blue TRY GOG GALAXY button, select the MORE button
In the pull-down menu select the CLASSIC INSTALLERS option and download those files.

Apologies if I'm repeating something you already know about.
Thanks again! You're not repeating, I still don't see it. I guess I gotta uninstall it again?

Selecting Settings in the Library view send me to the TToN options, installed thru Galaxy.

Gr00t: do you have it installed on yer system?

[gonna sig this: a physical disk I paid $$$ for has a platorm code [steam/gog] and one locks the other]

and This. The problem is, Here.., is that I can't just install TTon from the "floppie" and play it. I can't even install the game from the disk I bought.

Let's start from scratch. Access your Library from the website, not from Galaxy. Choose either of those two games (TW3 or T:ToN) and click the MORE tab. From there you should see the CLASSIC INSTALLERS option. This is where you can get the installers that DON'T come pre-loaded with Galaxy. Pic attached.

Normally, the installers that DO have Galaxy pre-loaded will have a checkbox (going by what others have said) found when you click the Options button in the lower left corner of the setup program. I think it's pre-checked to install Galaxy by default, so you uncheck that box to NOT install Galaxy. This is in the event that you downloaded an installer with Galaxy pre-loaded; that checkbox won't be there if you downloaded the "Classic" installer found under the MORE tab as I describe in the previous paragraph.

In a nutshell, they offer two different installers: those with Galaxy, which is the case more often in newer titles, and the "Classic" installers that do not have the Galaxy bits included. But even with the Galaxy installers you should be able to opt out of installing it so long as you remember to uncheck that box under Options while you're installing the game. It sounds confusing, with the irony being that Galaxy is the default option because it's supposed to make life easier. And maybe it does make life easier for many folks, but if you don't want Galaxy then you need to be on your toes every time you download and install a game.

Anyway, once you get the Classic installers from your website library, you can reinstall the games. This is like killing an ant with a sledgehammer but it will get the job done and should leave you with shortcuts to launch the games directly without starting Galaxy; at that point, you can uninstall Galaxy. The other way is to make your own shortcuts to the .exe for those two games, uninstall Galaxy, and then run the games from the shortcuts you made.

Hopefully I didn't screw up any of the Galaxy-related details there. I don't use it myself so I'm going off what others describe.

As an addendum to what HereForTheBeer said (and somewhat ironically), if you DL the 'backups and goodies' through Galaxy, it actually DLs the Classic (non-Galaxy) installers.

To be fair, nightcraw1er.488 is the one who got them mixed up in the first place.

I all the users that I know with account in gog use gog galaxy and probably most of the users of gog we use gog galaxy.

Despite the good esque gala galaxy is optional. Although most of us like it if a user does not want to use it does not have to have it necessarily.

I think that in Galaxy the Backup and Goodies menu is intended to download the installers.

No, I'm pretty sure the game's called Gremlings Inc, I think you might be the one getting things mixed up. Gobliiins was a point & click game.
