Technically yes... though I consider a real "backup" solution to be where I don't have to re-download the game as an installer. Instead use the files that Galaxy downloads by default.

But yea there is way to to download backup installers... but the "default" way Galaxy downloads is the files directly to your hard-drive similar to Steam. This is how I download all my games since the standalone installers can be a hit or miss as far as Galaxy integration.

So I would rather see a proper backup solution if you will... I don't want to download my games twice.

I merely use Galaxy as a replacement for the old GOG downloader (which does not work at my location anymore) to download the offline installers. Sometimes I still use the website to download a game, but only if it is one file and can be conveniently downloaded in a browser or another file downloader. For big games split into many separate files I prefer to use Galaxy.

I do not use any of the other features (cloud saves etc.).

Yes I know this is there, but it would require me to a) download my games twice and b) download the entire game again whenever there is a patch in order to have an convenient easy to use backup. So it's not a proper backup solution ....

What I am talking about is Galaxy getting a backup feature that is similar to Steam's "backup and restore" except that I hope the "restore" part works independently of Galaxy. I know I'm doing a bad job at explaining myself.

I updated my other post to be a bit more clear...

I don't want one to misinterpret that I think it's good that one can solve the version problem via Galaxy roll-back. It's more a comment that it's nice to have that feature in Galaxy since gOg have decided to not to allow us easy access to older patches and installers via the website (from what I've seen in my library). Instead, the website library is nerfed, which makes Galaxy artificially more appealing. There's no technical reason I can think of (but I'm no website guru, either) for why the links are not still available for older versions. When they update the game card with links to a new patch / installer, they could simply not delete the other links. The changelog is there to tell the customer what's what with the versions.

I would say they have next to nothing to do with that. These games ran perfectly back in the day, just a little tweaking and they run on Windows 7 or 10. That‘s I how I see it. And for the new games, they just put the download links on their page.

I don't use it. I can download and manage my games just fine without any kind of client. I might give it a try, if I want to play a multiplayer game in the future. But that doesn't happen very often, so for the foreseeable future it's "No GOG Galaxy" for me.

summitus: Just wondering how many people are using it now and if everyone is generally happy with it. I had it installed for a short time , hoping to see all games with achievements but uninstalled it since.
No, I'm not using it and I never will. As soon as it becomes mandatory, I'll leave GOG.

Only because I wasn't paying attention and installed it while installing D:OS. Will probably uninstall it when I'm done with that, but I don't care too much about it either way.

That said, I do occasionally forget which games I have installed, so some organization wouldn't be the worst thing. Maybe.
mine are just in a superlong alphabetical list in programs>gog games>, then I use my library sorting to have games towards the top that I'm currently playing / soon to play

No and I don't intend to. It's not evil like steam, but unnecessary for me. I simply log on, buy a game, find it in my library, download it in chrome, install it to the default Gog/Games and run it.

I'm not very techy, I guess I know just enough to be dangerous, but what I know works and that does me.

I don't want updates that break things, achievements, resource hogging at start up, and pretty colours. I am 60 odd, not 16, so I have patience and a need to understand before I click on something.

140 odd games on GoG, no other games on my pc, and all is well (up to now).

I do have a couple of techy questions though, but will put them in a separate post so as not to hijack this one.

I tried it out way back when they first released it and had nothing but problems. Tried it a second and third time and had nothing but problems. Decided to give it one last go, as I wanted to try out Gwent, and it seems to work okay now. So it's on my machine and working fine, but I don't really care about many of the features ('cheevos, cloud saves, etc)
