mobutu: didn't this had its own topic? I remember giving it 5/10 but I can't seem to find the topic now ...

There must have been more though.

MacArthur: First film I saw in years. Total and utter shit. There isn't anything close to a scenario, characters are horrible, and the all of it forms a hideous unintelligible clusterfuck.

Films went to shit 20 years ago, but how can people still watch that ? Don't they read at least once in their life ? Plenty of way to read, watch or play good stories instead of suffering hollywood pain...
While I agree cinema isn't what it used to be, I assure there still are great movies being made. If that's the only one you've seen in years, then you've missed some good stuff. Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road, Interstellar, Best Offer, and most of all Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, a true masterpiece that one.

The 12 parsecs line didn't bother me that much but...
"And these blast points, too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise."

That's the line I remember every time I see a Stormtrooper trying to shoot something...

Breja: Best Offer
Do you mean this one? If so, I very much agree. I saw it last week. Geoffrey Rush is such a talented actor.

Seems so. I just don't feel like having to grind through tons of shit to find a flower (and I didn't feel very cinephile to begin with...). Still a little surprised by the mediocrity this medium seems to reveal within since a long time now.

Yes, that's the one. A really clever, superbly acted movie. And yes, Rush is a fantastic actor, the kind I like the most- he's superb in his dramatic roles, and then when he is cast in something stupid like Pirates of the Caribbean he just has a ton of fun with it, hamming it up like crazy.

I really get you. I'm a cinephile, I love movies, so I'm always looking forward to going to the theatre, and I love looking for those diamonds in the rough. But I agree, things are not what they used to be. Simple, safe and formulaic is what every major studio is going for now most times, especially with their big blockbusters. And why wouldn't they? With Force Awakens and Jurassic World being the best selling movies of 2015 it's obvious the audience is happy with that. If I didn't enjoy watching movies so much, looking for the good ones and taking apart the bad ones, I would not watch even a third of the new movies I do watch. I just felt obliged to mention some of the good movies of recent years, because I think it's a shame that because of all the bad ones, the great ones might be ignored by people tired of the usual Hollywood stuff.

Crosmando: I liked how the plot echoed the plot of New Hope.
See, I had the opposite reaction. Tell a new story, guys.
I loved the inclusion of a female force user. (In fact, it is only because I heard about it that I decided to see the film in the first place.)

Rey is now my favorite Star Wars character.
I hated the movie.

New characters were lame except for Finn to a degree and that big bad guy Snooke.

Rey is a Mary Sue.

Kylo Ren is a bitch. I can act a better character then him.

The soundtrack was utterly forgettable. John Williams has lost his way. What happened to those passionate pieces he made for the fuckin Prequals?

Crosmando: Yeah they made Ren seem pretty soft tbh, he nearly cracked when he talked to Han Solo and then got beaten by an untrained force-user/Jedi. Not much of a Sith Lord if he can't even talk to someone without crying. His master's training must have been preeety shit
I think the point is that he's not a Sith Lord at all, he's very much still in training and does a lot to frighten laymen but most of it is just a show. He's a dumb kid who's gotten in over his head (which is also why the actual general can't stand him - he has to put up with Snoke's bratty apprentice instead of getting real stuff done).

John Williams is getting ratherold, and I remember reading somewhere that he didn't do all the music for the movie, and someo f it might have been "ghost written". I'm not sure if there's any truth to that. Maybe not, maybe he's just too old for this shit. Maybe he felt like he already scored this movie once back in 77'.

Also, it's "prequels" not "prequals".

This is one I've yet to see, and I must rectify that.

Agreed. He was more believable with the mask ON.
I thought, it was a fun movie, not a great Star Wars film. I'm hoping for Star Wars 8. I also liked Rogue One trailer very much.

Infinitely better than the prequels or George Lucas messing with the originals.

And I thought Kylo Ren was basically a fix for the horrors of Anakin Skywalker. I'm quite fond of his portrayal and the skill in which J.J. Abrams actually directed him.

that is not hard to be honest
and not much of a recommendation for episode 7
yes, that's the one, thanks for pointing out.
I gave a very generous 5/10 for this mediocre film
