It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

kalirion: Made it ugly as hell, slow as hell, and removed useful functionality in favor of stuff nobody ever asked for.

Pheace: Are you talking about the library update or? What functionality was removed?

Edit; probably the library I guess since I see it was officially released today for people not on the beta client

The only issue I have with it so far is that I can't seem to remove the 'what's new?' shelf at the top of the library which shows new updates for games I have.
Yeah, the new library. The functionality of being able to search the categories was removed. See screenshot: I don't see which categories ("collections" now, I guess) these "Preys" one's in "Finished" one's in "Current Playlist", "FPS" and "RPG". And Typhoon Hunter is in "Roguelike" as well.

Also you used to be able to type in the category name and see all the games in that category including other categories they're in. For example if I typed "FPS" I'd see all the games I put in the FPS category also organized by the other categories like RPG, Roguelike, "Try New", etc.

It's not that great. It's missing the vast majority of the features on Galaxy 1. All Galaxy 2 can do is install a game, launch, and sync cloud saves. No good way to download extras, no links to patch notes or even check your version. No sorting by purchase date.

I also find the UI to be inferior (with more clicks to do anything).

Stick with the non-beta Galaxy 1. 2 is barebones at best. (and most of the "3rd party" integrations things they list don't work, or don't work well.)

GameRager: What did they do?
They basically copied the craptastic design of gog Galaxy and thought it would fly.
Two stores completely demolished because companies hire retarded, blind monkeys to design their stuff.

I find it really astonishing how one or two more clicks can ruin the feel for the navigation so much, but that was one of the first things I didn't like.

I think I understand here. Basically it seems they've reduced duplicates from the search results, only returning it as 'games' now, so you have no idea what collection/s it's in. Which I assume would be useful for category sorting.

Or for example some games that I want to have at the top of my backlog I've been putting over time into my "Try New" category. So say I now want to play a FPS from that Try New category. Before I could just type "FPS" and then look at what's displayed under the Try New category. So simple. Now I have to go through either every game in the Try New collection and check which ones are FPS games, or through every game in the FPS collection and check which one looks good enough for me to want to play now.
The only time that I use Galaxy is to update my games since the offline installers give me a compatibility error with Grim Dawn. So I don't use Galaxy at all to play my games.

Steam on the other hand.

Stuff I like about the new uptate. Collection/category Organization. Being able to create collections of games based on Category which makes it easier to find games if you own a lot of games.

Stuff that I hate about the update. Loading the games is now a pain in the ass because you either have to right click on the game to click on play or go to the game on the left hand side to choose what game you want to play and click play. Where as the old interface all you needed to do to play your games is to find them and double click on the game title to launch the game. I wish they could give us back that functionality at least.

Acriz: The game cards look blurry now for some reason. Good update, didn't know I wanted to have problems looking at the steam library.

Galaxy 2.0 on the other hand, after installing it some month ago, was the first time I got a blue screen on my new PC.

Things are getting better all around.
I am not defending them, but some explanations/possible explanations: Steam is likely doing such to save on bandwidth(make the images show low res until you click them to expand them), and Galaxy 2.0 is still in beta(and obviously needs much more work)....though windows does love to throw up blue screens as well.

Here's hoping you have better luck at them later on.

So did they remove categories altogether? Also is the new update mandatory to keep playing or what?

So wait......Gog is copying Steam to make their new client, and Steam is copying Gog's client? Lol....I cannot even find the words right now.

(Also an aside: Love your avatar pic....great old show that was)

The categories are still there, but they disappear as soon as start typing into the search box or activate any of the "advanced filters".

The update is mandatory, yes, though there's information online with people providing backed up Steam Client files with instructions on how to use them to overwrite the updated installation and disable auto-updating of the client.

That's a relief(as I don't use the search box or filters much anyways).

Wouldn't that break updates for games if steam checked your client version? Regardless, it seems the new update doesn't change enough for me to bother with such, and if they ever borked the client up entirely i'd just buy games from them and use "other means" to play the bought games.

Yeah, the stories of the first Galaxy beta client weren't that much better either. In some cases uninstalling Galaxy would uninstall all of your games or fun like that. Early adopting with GOG stuff doesn't seem that advisable in general.
After the bluescreen I had to rollback to an earlier system state and since then I had no problems without G2.0, so knock on wood and hope that was only because of an weird error from that specific build on my specific setup.

On a more general note, ever since mobile and tablets became so dominant, interface designs have declined rapidly to big buttons and lot's of empty space for those sausage fingers handling those tiny screens.
